I should be less lazy about the gem-reward quest but... eh. It keeps giving me "nurture 1 X" quests which are a pain.
I suppose the sensible thing to do is just keep a C monster around that I can cheaply combine to whatever. I just don't particularly want to remove one of my existing monsters.
That is what I am doing. Keeping a C monster and an empty slot for the combination results is a pain, but thinking about the monster slots I will buy with the gems motivates me to keep it up.

I use my Monster Barn as the empty slot, cause you can't 'swap' a monster in and out of it so its storage space is pointless if I'm not planning to release the results. Otherwise I'd be keeping my expired Specials in it or something.
I guess I'll let go one of the extras in a species I care less about. I see a lot of people with just 1 highranked Mushroom so it's not unusual. I just like a bit of variety.
[edit: 6:30GMT Thursday] I'm pleased to announce a new feature. Mostly cause it makes it a lot more convenient for me to update farms as I'm attempting combinations.
![[Image: kjClHcy.png]](http://i.imgur.com/kjClHcy.png)
When you click the blue wrench, it takes you directly to the update form so you can change that farm's quantities, and once you've submitted it you're returned to the species page.
At present anyone who's logged in will see this option.

Developing code for Specials should be pretty simple since there's less to it (just a list of names and expiry dates, no ranks) but entering the old data will take a while - took me maybe 1min per type for the regular ones to reformat the data into something acceptable, which is a matter of giving everything a name that works in a url instead of "Aliens & Humanoids" etc. Now that I have more experience that may go faster, or it may not.
Since you can now revive expired monsters I won't limit it to displaying alive specials, but will add some better way of removing ones that don't exist. Probably just a 'count' cell that defaults to 1.
DNS might not be global yet but I've given it a subdomain, http://monsterlife.90d.ca which is hopefully easier on the autocomplete than the random one Google gave me.
The plan is to have the homepage list off both regular and specials, in two sections. Unless anyone can think of a good reason to try to keep the specials all on one page I'm gonna split them off the same way the regular monsters are, to give a bit more detailed information, and not have to run all the queries every time someone goes to the front page.

Is it possible to add links to each monster category on a categories page?
Like let's say I was browsing Plants and I wanted to jump to Undead. Instead of hitting the home button or the back button and then choosing another farm at the top and/or bottom of the page are links to each other monster category.

Is there any reason not to save up for the Country Mansion? Buying the Mighty Mansion doesn't reduce its price by 28 gems by any chance, does it?

Pretty sure you have to buy the houses in sequence.

My friend has a Snow Witch that expires on the 30th. I don't believe she has any plans to extend it or keep it on her farm once it expires.
There aren't that many Snow Witch listed so if any of you were thinking of going for a Pipsqueak Horntail you may want to extend it. Otherwise I think she might get rid of it. Leave her a message at her farm GTFOMyLawn if interested in extending it.
She also has a Timer that expires on the 30th too.

The monsters gain more exp when nurtured and when played with, so they level somewhat faster.
I couldn't get the "get a monster to level 30" achievement without it. Although now that monsters can be revived, that's not as difficult an achievement.

When I was on daily doing 3 profitable nurtures (instead of 1 good + 2 less good), I still barely cracked level 20... nowadays mine mostly make it to 12-13. I think I'm just gonna revive an A+ grade monster until it hits 30.
At least I have some extra exp now I guess. (can't tell how much each nurture gives but if +2 helps then it must be not much)

Yes, even with both the Moon Bunny and Moon Bunny Twin (+1 and +2 monster exp respectively), I had to do 3 good nurtures and at least 10 plays a day (what are mule farms for?) to get to 30 on the last day. I tried to figure out just how much exp every act is worth, through SS'ing and counting pixels on mob exp bars, but it was all very inconsistent and I gave it up. Seems like something that would require packet sniffing (I assume that if it were in the client data somewhere, Grey would have it in his info thread) to get right.

15 monster slots is not enough.
I might just get rid of my Dodo and Mutant Snail before they expire. Only one free slot open right now and its hell doing quests or trying to rank up.
Hate to rush you Stereo but any update on the new special list? I've been going through the old spreadsheet for normal monsters and finding a lot of farms that have special parents that aren't listed. I've been updating the special spreadsheet and the normal one but its kind of a hassle to keep switching between them.

I got started on it. Had more thoughts on "what would be useful on the page" after spending a few hours yesterday trying to make an A+ rank Soldier (there are only like 6 Soldier farms listed so I was hitting random farms and combining with any B+/As, plus adding special parents and anyone with a large amount of one type) so it's probably gonna come with other usability updates, like more navigation links on the specific type pages. I only haven't uploaded them cause I'm also working on adding Specials and that's about half-finished.
If I stick to the coding (no promises, the internet is sorta distracting) then I will probably be able to shut down the Specials form tonight, and move the data over.
I've been thinking of a few ways individualising it to the user would be useful - I could, for example, allow it to send an email notification when your monsters are a day or two from expiring (would just add a checkbox on the update form for that, so you set it for specific type/farm name). And have a user option to display all farms regardless of expiry (the data's still there, it's just hidden because I can do that trivially and most people don't want expired stuff)
I might also change the text suggestion to "set expiry to last monster to expire" instead of median one - I had it that way hoping that ~half the numbers would be correct, but having any monsters of a type is still useful.

So I just found out that you can now revive your dead monsters. I'll be working on getting my farm back up and running.
Also, why hasn't this thread been stickied yet?

I notice that on the normal monsters spreadsheet, a lot of the farms in yellow past the median expiration are actually still up and running. Some updated from A to A+ etc.

It's pretty much on the front page every day.

Point taken. Still, it could also be said that since this thread is of seemingly high interest (and also because it has a rather huge collection of data), that it wouldn't hurt anything for it to be stickied anyway. For future reference, you see.

Yeah, I should probably add a way of displaying all farms known to have each type, sorted by expiry instead of quantities. Will work on something of that nature after the Special page is working.

Just went from C to A+ Soldier in one day. Getting another Yeti and Pepe to A is probably also easy. Might as well get rid of it. Any suggestions on what to replace it with if anything? Already have the types that would give me Strength to A+. I could always leave the spot open for combining. Would put me at 14/16 instead of 15/16. Looking through the specials it seems like I'm already on the road to making the ones I want. I hate how useless some of the monster types are. +Accuracy, +Weapon Defense, +Magic Defense, etc. A lot of these specials are useless too other than to make another special.
That SS Typhon +1 MA & ATT.
