#21
at least from the people i ask IRL who also has a sister who watches this show, kirino is generally considered(in their opinion) one of the least likable characters in the show compared to the rest.

Not sure what there is to explain about this genre.

In this genre, it's not weird at all for a dude who wish to bone his sisters.

i'll take a moment to point out that we're referring to the country that created tentacle porn simply because they couldn't draw depict penises.

nothing is sacred to these guys, which means a lot more leniency in their projects... for good or bad.

Malthe Wrote:You could probably also throw some Westermarck Effect in there to explain it.
But i doubt that the author thought of that when writing the story.
Then again, the characters were probably also too old for it to apply to them anyway.

I have always maintained that the Westermarck Effect is NOT a real thing. There are too many variables that make it a grey area or flat prove it wrong for it to be legitimate. If you aren't at least a little bit attracted to relatives of close age, then they are either not physically attractive or peaches; it goes by the same ruleset as a normal person. Taboo is all societal in any case, if it's never brought up then kids don't even know that it's wrong in the eyes of others.

Kanako>=Saori>Ruri>>>pomegranate>>>more pomegranate>>>Kirino=Ayase

Manami and Kuroneko's sisters are not romantic interests in the series, but they are my favorite girls aside from Kanako.

I don't quite believe in the westermarck effect either, but as i said you could have thrown some of it into the story.
Yosuga no Sora used the concept to an extent, for example.

Well, Kirino is a peach. Oh, and all the girls besides Manami and Kuroneko are underage (they are still in middle school). Kirino, Saori, Ayase, Kanako, all 15.

Define underage. Are we talking age of consent here, which varies from country to country?
Also being attracted to someone two years younger than you hardly makes you a lolicon.

In denmark there'd be no problem what so ever with a 17 year old boy having a sexual relationship with a 15 year old girl. Completely within the law.

In the US, that would be illegal, as the 15 year old is not above the age of consent, and the 17 year old would be labled a sex offender for life. Something like that aactually happened at my highschool.

I liked Kuroneko and Kyousuke's relationship much better in the LN. Too bad she broke it off.

Watched 3 episodes and found it really dull. The characters are boring.

This story doesn't take place in the US though.
Not to mention that you can rarely just use age as an argument as to wether someone is a lolicon or not. Cosidering characters that are meant to be 13 years old but look as though they're in their mid twenties, or characters that are thousands of years old but have the body of a small girl.

Also lolicon usually refers to paraphilia, as in atypical attraction. There's nothing atypical about attraction with a 2 year age-gap.

Interest in taboo is definitely not a new thing. Neither is this genre or any other. If you want to discuss branding characters then how bout we come up with a common definition before doing so as such with lolicon. Otherwise the discussion can get very confusing when we refer to our personal definitions.
