Jazeon Wrote:As i said i never realised until quite late in the game how useful certain things were because i was dead set on never paying for anything. So my years of playing didn't pay off until i already had like 4-5 characters over 120, which was after i stopped, came back, took a break, then came back again.
So did you pay for those things or did you work up 80m:1k nx ratio to pay for everything. Or did you just buy the permanent?
Jazeon Wrote:agree it takes quite alot starting fresh for new comers, the learning curve as i would call it is kinda high. Looking at the other game i play however that isn't so far from the norm for me, Dota also takes a while to get into,
So what you call "NX dependency" is a "high learning curve", then try to compare it to something like Dota? Maplestory has no learning curve. You play the game how it's supposed to be played, you either break bank, or struggle for years. Dota actually requires strategic thinking, reflexes, and all sorts of skills. I'm not familiar on how it entirely functions, but I believe the only thing really purchaseable are champions. You can literally buy your way through any challenge in maplestory. Boss kills you to fast? Wheels? Can't buff fast enough? Pet buff? Can't be bothered to potion, auto HP, auto loot, hell there was some auto buff thing that made you unable to die. The sad part is, for the most part, these "chaos" variant bosses require it as they have some sort of 1HKO, where the frames can glitch up and even though you jumped through the necessary hoops yous till die. Your comparisons have absolutely no credibility at all.
Jazeon Wrote:you WILL get pineappled on first couple of weeks of playing, it's only after some studying and coaching with some friends, or playing with other newbies your level for a good while that you start to come into your own as a player and really start to grasp the vast concept of dota as a whole. Some games have high walls of learning, and that's fine, to some people it makes them feel good that they were able to overcome that hurdel, we all have the option of not going through it, that's the main point. You choose what you want to invest into.
Again...your entire comparison is so off it's not even funny. The first weeks of maplestory are great, you get free stuff majority of the time, almost everything you get is beneficial to you, no mastery books, little to no conflict (save for class releases), it's how it should be played to be honest. You can play maplestory for years, but your dependency on NX is never going to suddenly vanish. You're never going to turn around a profit to get the range required to fight bosses which in fact do, although small, turn over a profit.
It's never about inexperience, it isn't about understanding the concepts of the game, when it get's down to it, there is no genuine free oppurtunity that is proportional to the amount of nx you would have to spend. You aren't a more "skilled" player simply because you don't buy nx, that doesn't make any sense. I could throw 1.5 grand on the game, still know as much as you, accomplish more than you, while you take what I would consider baby steps.
Jazeon Wrote:If a person can't realise that and ends up spending their whole retirement fund on a game then that's their problem, if a person decides they want to spend 5+ hours for 365 days getting to a certain point in maplestory guess what...that's also their choice. They are loads of the same type of schemes in the real world, hell even an entire nation was built on it, Las vegas.
TIL Las Vegas is a nation. It's not about having a sudden epiphany that "hey my money isn't worth it", but the fact the option is there is ludicrous. You can default to this "It's their choice" but we're not talking about choices, we're not talking about masochist addicts, we're talking about how nexon's business model can be improved on. Nexon cannot rely on these top 15% to spend on cubes all the time, because these high spenders are getting fed up. They are getting banned(justly mind you) and they are quitting because it's too much. What we are seeing is a static population of the same 50 or so people playing the game like a day job. They grow out of it, better games come up, or life just beats them out. With the current business model, that caters to these high spenders, who have been dedicated for years, all because it's become their comfort zone, is going to bite their ass in the long run.
Nexon has no forsight, there is plenty of room for oppurtunity in this game, and they are focusing on tomorrow instead of next year. If they focused on an easier transition to an nx user, in fact, do as private servers do, and indulge free users, then we'd see a bigger community. There is a proportion in games like these, and Nexon DESTROYED IT after these frekin cubes came out. Perfect gear became a standard, cubing it to legendary with 3 lines that have some sort of benefit, is now a standard. These weapons costs several hundred dollars to make, only to be replaced with the next "tier" of equipment. Those are ridiculous extremes and are not acceptable.
Jazeon Wrote:Only thing i have to care about is how i manage with what they are currently putting forward
and don't give me that oh your just condoning what they are doing and not seeking to make things better, come on i'm pretty sure they are adults, i'm pretty sure they have teams of people dedicated to understanding what works and what doesn't, i'm pretty sure they are hearing the cries of maple players all over, if they wanted to do something about it they would have done it. They aren't ignorant, they just have different objectives, and that's fine, i have my my own as well.
Oh my god, and how old are you? "They're adults", lmfao. Their objective and their means to accomplishing it has and is slowly killing the game off. I have seen entire generations of players just dissapear and mock the previous generations for even bothering with this pit of retardation. You don't and frankly can't discredit peoples criticism based on "Their adults, they'll do what they want", that's not how the real world works. Nexon is not a charity, they are a business, they have, believe it or not, a certain amount of obligation towards their customers, which is people who use their service. This just shows how immature, naive and frankly selfish your mindset is on this. "I surivive and have fun while doing it, so everything is fine how it is".
Jazeon Wrote:Put simply as i said before, it's their choice, the way you talk it would appear as though they are the government raising taxes or some other detrimental economic burden they are placing on the taxpaying people of the nation. I get what you are saying, believe me i sure do, the game is hard and kinda unfair/ unproportional for the rewards you eventually get out of it, really disproportionate and all that, but guess what, no one has to do it, people choose to do it. That's the biggest point and most important when it comes to a game, which is a want, NOT A NEED, so anything you say concerning their tactics and what we have to go through is completely irrelevant, because we choose what we want to go through, we are capable of reason and making choices that make us happy, that's part of the definition of the human condition, the search for gratification. As a person who hobbies in anthropology and psychology, i have seen that people will do what they w/e they want that makes them happy as long as they can get away with it without any negative consequences (subjective to them as what they see as negative) depending on a person's intelligence to discern long and short term consequences.
Oh my god, do you know how to write a sentence that doesn't spam half a goddamn paragraph. I can't break this up because if I attempt to it'll just be taken out of context.
I'm not going into this philosophical 101 bull sh`it with you, a video game is to waste time as a leisurely activity, maplestory does that, for a limited amount of time. But now you have time invested, a character you like, you want to grow on this hobby, reach accomplishments, become better, it's just natural. Why must it be a decision to begin with that I have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to achieve a decent dent in the higher hierarchy of end game content? Then you allude to, working hard, which to be honest takes as much time and dedication as a second job. It then loses it's lust as a game, but the friends you make keep you there.
They should encourage players at this point of their maple life to stay, not face this wall through an ocean of time, or an ocean of money. For you to dismiss this as "Well that's their intention!", is ridiculous. The whole point of using their service, thus making us a customer, which in the end, kind of effects their IPO, is our voice on the subject. There's a tipping point in any activity you invest into, whether it be time or money, where they don't want to suddenly make all of it in vain. For you to suggest the problem is the players with no dicipline complaining, is ridiculous, especially since they are very valid complaints, with very fair solutions.
Jazeon Wrote:Maple is a want, no one forces us to play it, your arguments are nice and make alot of sense, but when put to the realization that this is a game and we can stop at any time......then it just sounds like whining because you want something but can't get what you want but truth is you really don't need it at all.
Actually, I'm pretty well known for getting whatever I want in maplestory, I just don't indulge it anymore. What your problem is, you're looking at this as a general player basis, while the thread is about the company's strategy and how it's f`ucking over players. Your solution of "Don't like it, quit", is just obnoxious immaturity being cornered by logic. Nexon has made a few changes based on the participation of this forum alone, girasol was doing leaps and bounds before she left based on our input. So for you to suggest that criticism is simply whining and should be disregarded, is asinine.
Unlike you, I have taken initiative to make a difference, even spent about 3-4 months recording hackers and submitting them because the botting issue has gotten that bad. Nothing can be accomplished if you disregard it simply as "A choice that I have to deal with", I honestly don't think it's nexon's choice to get their database hacked, I don't think it's their choice that botters have such a benefit over normal players, and a million other examples. The only choices they made were unaware of the consequences, it's half ass'd and there are people trying to take initiative to change that. And you're dismissing those efforts as "their choice".
Jazeon Wrote:Anyone who is willing to go through what they go through in maple can simply pick up at anytime and find a game more suitable to their needs. Humans do what they want to do. If people want to be stupid and waste/invest their money then so be it, that's their right as a human being, If nexon wants to ignore our cries for easier stuff then so be it, game will either continue to float or sink eventually. It's their choice. I made my choice not to waste large amounts of money on it because i want to have life outside of it. That was my choice.
To be quite frank I believe it's the fact you don't have much money to spend to begin with. Just to let you know time is in fact money, so you're by default wasting it by participating, you are condoning the gaps, the glitches, the vulnerability, so your choice isn't exactly that smart to begin with.
Jazeon Wrote:Let me say this to all those who might not know or too young to understand, the world sucks and is not fair, research what you are getting into and prepare for the consequences. Don't wait until something happens (in this case maplestory) such as you get unfairly banned, get scammed, get hacked, rewards aren't what you thought they were or whatever else, to complain and wonder how is this right or i should be refunded blah blah. The game has a history of being unfair, look it up, if you still decide to push on knowing this, then it's your own dam fault if you get "screwed over", no one else's. Go play something else.
I love when people preach this, because when they're in those shoes, their tune quickly changes. I personally find it ironic when active maplestory players expect any less from nexon, but to encourage change, to discuss how things should be, is progressive, and shouldn't be shunned because it's expected. Apathy doesn't suddenly mean maturity, it's people with passion who change the world after all.

Maple Story does have -some- learning curve, as I've figured out by trying to guide someone completely new to the game. But for the most part, that curve is simply learning all the features, not so much the training. Having said that, I have run into Kaisers doing it wrong (simply using dragon slash in 4th job instead of holding left and right to turn that into Blade Burst and fill the gauge while doing more damage...)
But in the end, what can you reasonably expect to accomplish without NX? On regular level 75-110 equips, 6% stat is manageable, especially with alchemy. I'll even be as generous as to deem 9% possible, as I have revealed a 9% Dex unique pirate hat once and an epic Tempest Pendant came out 9% Dex thanks to 6+3 matching %Dex lines.
An Empress set seems possible enough. Apparently those get sold for mesos nowadays. But due to the rarity of the equipment, you're likely not going to have a useful potential on it. As for the scrolling, recent events have made it possible to +10 weapons with 5 attack scrolls, thanks to CSS's with no boom possibilities.
But that's pretty much where it stops. You can't throw tons of EE stars on your equipment safely because there's no non-NX equivalent to guardian scrolls. You can't cube 18% stat or better on your Empress gears, then also cube bonus potential as well. And good luck getting anything higher than Empress stuff, because those basically aren't available for mesos. And ultimately, even with what you can get for free, you're still a sub-par player who gets hit with a glass ceiling and shown content you can't participate in effectively.

It does have a learning curve because there are things about the game that make it easier that isn't just known off the bat. Which means there is knowledge available through different means that can help make things easier, hence there is stuff to learn and also they reason why they are so many guides, so yes there is a learning curve and the game gets easier the more you know. They never promised being able to play everything or even 10% of the things in the game, once you can access it and get to try classes or anything else for that matter it's still free to play. It's a game designed to make money, they are not giving away their game for free, they would make no money and it's soley exists to make money, you fail to understand this simple concept. They don't owe us anything and while i'm at it they don't have to let us even get to 3rd job for free . Focus on that concept for a while before you post more self-entitled BS. The whole point of any game endeavour is to what? make money, now looking at games titles that are released to play you have to pay to even play it, unless you go by a friend who has already purchased it and play it on his system. I remember other MMOs as well like last chaos and perfect world to name a few that i tried where it was just as much mindless grinding and the people who payed got huge advantages. Think of maplestory as a consumable that you are able to at least try a bit before you start paying for the real experience of what it has to offer, whether that total experience is worth it at all is a different story, but the fact remains we aren't entitled to play their entire game and all it's benefits without paying what they demand for that experience. It's a simple product that has to be bought. I don't get how that's complicated, if you don't want to pay for anything then keep your mouth shut with what you can accomplish *faceplam*. And if you do want to pay for the advantages know what you are getting into because clearly things aren't changing.

Lol now i'm just finding this hilarious, what don't you understand by it's their model and they can do what they want, you really think they don't know they have an option to try to save the game for longterm if it is indeed going downhill? Who says they don't want to just drain as much as they can out of this cash cow before it goes down the drain? What are you assuming is that nexon as a company has no idea what they are doing and they are just sitting at the desk going "grrr money now more money now" without thinking of the consequences. You really can't be that naive, all of that talk is irrelevant because it's a company that is making quite alot of cash, which by default means they have a good business sense to get this far and last this long. You really gonna try to convince people that they have no clue what the consequences are? People get degress in business just for this purpose alone lol, you really think a company like this can't simply hire people (if they haven't done so or have people working there already on this aspect) working on business models and projections? Now your just being a bit naive. And if they do as you say have no foresight, then out of respect for all the dedicated maplers out there like me and you who come up with solutions you think they aren't aware? or at least some part of their staff know exactly what players are suggesting they do to improve the company? Come on man nexon isn't sitting in some throne in the clouds unaware of what is going on or who is suggesting what, only plausible thing that can be inferred is that they don't give a s*** or prefers their way instead. Which goes back to what i was saying before, know what your getting into and decide if you want to deal it.

Here is an option, simply don't lol, and keep finding ways to try to insult me, your definitely going to get your point across that way. Refer to what i have said more than once that nothing is fair, this is what they are offering and if they wanted to change they would have . The moment you assume they have any obligation to satisfy you out for the sake of just doing it you are going into a pointless circle argument. They are making money, if that's their bottom line so be it. You want to change them so bad buy them out and take over as CEO. Anything is pointless because they know what we are saying and they know what we would like them to do.You do understand that part yeh? I understand what you are saying but so far they haven't given much us much evidence to say they want to do what we want them to do. So why continue to wrestle and qq and groan, say what you have to in a positive way and move on smartly.

No actually my solution is do what you can giving the circumstances, give solutions if you think you have a better one but ultimately know what you investing into, and if it's not getting any better and really as horrible as you say it is, THEN JUST STOP PLAYING. The company's strategy grossly affects the general player base so it's quite relevant to talk about the players and how they feel about it and what they can do to cope given the circumstances. I don't report hackers when i see them? You are assuming I am doing nothing for the community and you know what they say about assuming lol. I even submit those stupid little reports that pop up when the game crashes. I haven't said anything other than: know what you are getting into, decide if you want to deal with it or not and don't peach if it bites you in the ass. Funny thing is I talk to quite alot of people with the same mindset as you and they complain and moan yet still play the game again and again, obviously either nexon is so smart on the psychological level and has made the game so addictive you can't help it, or you are just insane falling for the same crap. That is for the people who constantly complain, if that's not you then disregard.

Lol one again assuming, i'm a microbiologist working a medical device production company for about 40k and saving for my tution to study dentistry. So hmm if i play the game in my leisure time after work after playing tennis, I guess i'm just wasting my time since apparently i'm not enjoying what i'm getting out of it....altho I have said I do enjoy it. Man please ofc i know time is money which is why i don't mind forking over 2k nx for a 2x card to use during 2x events when i need to, you really are a piece of work aren't you. Stop projecting.
I was giving advice to anyone out there who plans to start any endeavour, which applies quite well to maplestory, i don't mind positive criticism, but the type i'm seeing from you is just plain negative and irrelevant. I stated my opinions you responded to me, you didn't have to yet you chose to. If you don't agree then fine, but please don't try to come off as though your opinions are any more plausible and right than me by challenging everything I say.

Yeh i see what you are saying, but at what point would you say they we should be allowed to reap the full benefits of the game without paying? Do you think the current ceiling we have when we are free is too low as in we should be able to enjoy more? We all know the F2P title is just a way to attract people.
This is to ZeekFox btw not sure how to tag ppl lol.

Credibility goes poof. You got 4 classes to 120, then realized how dramatically easier these products are in comparison. By the way, getting to 120 on 4 job's really hasn't been that impressive since what guys? Big bang?

There are guys to point you to what is the most efficient skill builds and place to train. Maplestory has nothing so advanced/difficult. Considering you actually max out everything your first two jobs, the third job, essentially everything besides two different skills (Or one, I can't remember). So they are suggestions, and to be honest considering how easy the game is now, by far not necessary. Unless there's some secret tablet of knowledge you want to lay out to me that every mapler should know and quickly filter the "crappy players".
Jazeon Wrote:They never promised being able to play everything or even 10% of the things in the game, once you can access it and get to try classes or anything else for that matter it's still free to play.
...Yes, they in fact have. I'm too lazy to find it, since it's actually a piece of common knowledge, people will vouch if necessary.
Jazeon Wrote:It's a game designed to make money, they are not giving away their game for free, they would make no money and it's soley exists to make money, you fail to understand this simple concept.
Oh, I see, so you skimmed my post, because that's exactly what I didn't say. That's okay, I didn't have high hopes for you anyway. The point of the discussion is not demand nexon to give freebies to everyone as soon as you log in, but as someone who has experimented with private servers, there are by means better ways to make profit.
See the concept you can't fathom or just fail to acknowledge as it throws your entire argument under the bus is, Nexon made a very, very large profit in the first 4 years of its existance, based on very few items. As a business, yes, they should focus on maximizing profit, but there's this fun thing called "priorities". Lately, it's been customer service (see live chat they half ass'd implimented), but what's hurting the game the most, is the attention spam of most players. How do you keep players, like they did for years? You take away this cliffside of NX dependency, lower it, I don't know, a few thousand feet, so when they jump, they don't shatter every bone of their body. Something as simple as making small amounts of NX a reward in party quests, will keep, me as a player, playing. I can take my time, play the game and be rewarded for it, or if I feel I want to get something done, will pay for it instead. The previous option does not exist, and is unproportionally unbalanced. You have conceded and agreed with this, so you alluding to me demanding everything be free is a gross exaggeration of what, in fact, a lot of players really expected from the get go.
Jazeon Wrote:They don't owe us anything and while i'm at it they don't have to let us even get to 3rd job for free .
Ironically, their other titles such as dragon nest, do not have anywhere near the NX dependency maplestory does. So the same company, came out with a game that pretty much gave me what I asked for. Huh, well again, argument under the bus.
As for the rest of that paragraph, see above. "Self entitled", lmao. Read more carefully.
Jazeon Wrote:Think of maplestory as a consumable that you are able to at least try a bit before you start paying for the real experience of what it has to offer, whether that total experience is worth it at all is a different story, but the fact remains we aren't entitled to play their entire game and all it's benefits without paying what they demand for that experience.
Again, Nexon has advertised the opposite. You can sit here and spit the obvious till your blue in the face, but that's why this thread exists, jesus. We are discussing how it should be, not how it is, so I don't know why you're wasting your time. Plus I kind of describe it better.
Jazeon Wrote:It's a simple product that has to be bought. I don't get how that's complicated, if you don't want to pay for anything then keep your mouth shut with what you can accomplish *faceplam*. And if you do want to pay for the advantages know what you are getting into because clearly things aren't changing.
I don't know how you jump on this train of "Well THIS IS HOW NEXON OPERATOR DEPERDERPERP", when this was never put into question, just that the method of operation can be changed for the better. Things have slightly changed, and the static population may force that gap, in fact with an NX trading system and a really really beta of cube forging, those changes are slowly being made.
So uh, you're wrong.
Jazeon Wrote:Now you are making this easy for me lol, as you are saying above you get quite alot for free, that's good enough, as i said it's a product that has to be bought, whether it's proportional or not is up for them to decide, it's not your game or your product, they are offering and we are choosing to accept, what is so complicated about that. If you want something different go play a PS.
No, I'm saying they encourage you to play to this unforseeable wall that you just pointed out. I explain how this wall should not be there, instead it should be a top and a bottom, where you are rewarded for playing the game, or that you buy the rewards themselves. In context, I quit nearly 3 years ago, I'm still talked about, even basilmarket has had 3 petitions to ask me to come back.
The point is, you either misunderstood the thread, are you're in the wrong one to begin with. This is a discussion about how the current business model is pretty sh`itty. Everyone is fully aware on how it works, hence why almost everyone I know (80% of khaini) has gone off and vanished.
Jazeon Wrote:Lol now i'm just finding this hilarious,
I'm so glad we are getting a narrative of your feelings. Is this just to try to reinforce your lack of actual content and repeating how powerless you are? Are you this easily dominated by your superiors? Jesus I feel like you walk around gripping your ankles telling people to take turns.
Jazeon Wrote:what don't you understand by it's their model and they can do what they want, you really think they don't know they have an option to try to save the game for longterm if it is indeed going downhill?
No, just like how maple Brazil died. There are a few other ones. The thing is, such changes would not be dependent on Nexon America, it be dependent on Nexon Korea. Korea has the base client, to change how miracle cubes work specifically on one region would mean changing the base client everytime there is an update, not including ones with common exploits. For a "veteran" you really don't know much about the whole Nexon thing.
Jazeon Wrote:Who says they don't want to just drain as much as they can out of this cash cow before it goes down the drain? What are you assuming is that nexon as a company has no idea what they are doing and they are just sitting at the desk going "grrr money now more money now" without thinking of the consequences.
Well for one there is glassdoor which gives us insight of the companies employees opinion on the employer (nexon). For another we've had GM's (girasol) and some new guy, forgot his name, who use us as resourses. We also have a volunteer(two including tyler) who also give us valuable insight on what's going on.
Jazeon Wrote:You really can't be that naive, all of that talk is irrelevant because it's a company that is making quite alot of cash, which by default means they have a good business sense to get this far and last this long. You really gonna try to convince people that they have no clue what the consequences are?
Nexon is a great marketer, that's pretty much it, when it comes to maplestory at least. You also need to learn the difference between net income and profit. Because if you actually knew the difference, you'd understand how stupid that statement is. I suggest you get off this "You don't know, YOU DONT KNOW", because we all kind of do. We know Maplestory client is a poorly written architecture that needs to be entirely rewritten to avoid things like the meso exploits and duplications for good, things like dc hack, will always have work arounds, that it will always be crashy and buggy.
Jazeon Wrote:People get degress in business just for this purpose alone lol, you really think a company like this can't simply hire people (if they haven't done so or have people working there already on this aspect) working on business models and projections?
Considering the entire reason they didn't make a profit in 2012 Feb was because they fired everyone, yeah I'm going to assume hiring is probably a big deal to them. Although they recently have been hiring outside of the state of california and have people work remotely. I was pretty surprised by that. Business degrees aren't actually what nexon is looking for currently, look on their website, they want customer service/programmer type of services. Though if you do read about them in glassdoors, its these people with "business" degrees that are so top heavy that doing anything outside of what is schedules (such as fixing a very dangerous exploit) is frowned and attacked on.
Jazeon Wrote:Now your just being a bit naive.
Marvel machine had a 2x for the first 4 hours. It caused me and other players who quit to buy into it. Why? It was a project girasol was working on, she cut out all the bull sh`it and gave everyone a decent shot for anything they need. I supported the decision, in fact gave everything I won away, anything valuable that is. She left the same day, none of us know why, but her titles and everything were taken away faster than Hime's, who quit a month prior. It was probably because the tyrant gear became to common.
Nexons POV: OH GOD, NOW OUR CURRENT "VIP" GEAR IS GOING TO BE EVERYWHERE, OUR EVENTS ARE NOW USELESS AND OUR PROFITS WILL PLUMIT
Nexon with foresight in another universe: Oh wow, now everyone will cube and enhance these new equips! Let's do some sales to encourage people to scroll them!
That's foresight. Not only that but people who have in fact interviewed for nexon have been asked if they play maplestory, if they said yes, it greatly lowered their chance of being hired. Why? They were afraid of the risks of allowing players to get GM abilities. This was also why the maple leaf brigade failed, too many people abusing their power. This leads to the most common deduction, and explains a lot, they don't understand the game themselves. They don't develop anything (Last thing was masteria), they just repeat sales from Korea, translate their patches and make sure it's compatible, that's their job. Hopefully you get some valuable insight here because your view point is utterly corrupted with the ignorance of other fan maple websites, clearly.
Jazeon Wrote:I'm 25 actually and refer to what i said above in response to your statements.
Can we start making sentences that aren't run on so long that it's the entity of half a paragraph? It makes it a lot easier for me to peg you at least. I'm assuming you have been to college, so let's put some of that college paper writing to work.
Jazeon Wrote:Here is an option, simply don't lol, and keep finding ways to try to insult me, your definitely going to get your point across that way. Refer to what i have said more than once that nothing is fair, this is what they are offering and if they wanted to change they would have .
...As I have pointed out to you, they have. Not enough for make me want to come back, but enough to show baby steps of progress. I already listed the examples, twice in fact. Also nothing iis fair, do you really want me to list to you what is fair about maplestory? I feel it's unnecessary but I feel it is.
Jazeon Wrote:The moment you assume they have any obligation to satisfy you out for the sake of just doing it you are going into a pointless circle argument.
Oh, so when they gave compensation to people who got hacked, that was out of their own satisfaction? You are a customer have certain obligations, otherwise you just don't use their service. And a surprisingly amount of people have chosen that, which led to some necessary changes. (Again, see live chat).
Jazeon Wrote:They are making money, if that's their bottom line so be it.
...Profit vs Net income champ.
Jazeon Wrote:You want to change them so bad buy them out and take over as CEO.
There has been plenty of evidence they have started listening, not enough to satisfy my standards, but the changes are things I can't even deny. So the only thing pointless is me reading this to be honest. But since I don't waste hours on maplestory, I guess I have time to spare.
Jazeon Wrote:No actually my solution is do what you can giving the circumstances, give solutions if you think you have a better one but ultimately know what you investing into, and if it's not getting any better and really as horrible as you say it is, THEN JUST STOP PLAYING.
Again, I infact did. So uh, anything else princess? You act like I play and complain, I complain and see slight changes. Obviously something is working.
Jazeon Wrote:The company's strategy grossly affects the general player base so it's quite relevant to talk about the players and how they feel about it and what they can do to cope given the circumstances. I don't report hackers when i see them? You are assuming I am doing nothing for the community and you know what they say about assuming lol.
Yes, we are talking, you are arguing that we should not be discussing this as it's pointless and "whiney". So the generalization I have of you is based on that opinion you keep trying to ram down peoples throat. So it's not "WHERE DID THAT COME FROM" as you're alluding to, and a logical deduction.
Jazeon Wrote:I even submit those stupid little reports that pop up when the game crashes.
Well if you actually read my post you already would have answered that question. This thread is about the discussion of how it should be, and you're telling people like this is a life choice to do thorough research of what you're getting into. That entire perspective is pointless as this is a maplestory forum, everyone here has played, so what you're suggesting is just stupid. You're trying to give life advice as a veteran of Iraq to people who came back from Vietnam for christ sake, the audacity is really staggering. The fact you play and are aware of all these liabilites and vulnerabilities just makes you a masochist, as I assume anyone who plays maplestory in general, someone who wants to get hurt, someone who wants to lose. Because you never win in maplestory.
Jazeon Wrote:Lol one again assuming, i'm a microbiologist working a medical device production company for about 40k and saving for my tution to study dentistry.
Too bad you don't have raptr or something like that to log how many hours you play, it give us some valuable insight of how much "leisure" time you have. Also, I don't understand how you jump to this "projecting" crap, was that the almighty come back your parents had against you? Considering I actually got to the top of the food chain, and have made it clear that everything in maplestory is essentially accesible to me, money doesn't seem to be an issue. Considering I give away NX to people who get scammed and have more than one occasion completely compensated every meso my friends got hacked from, I think such statement is laughable.
Also, it still qualifies as a dumb decision, as you play with such vulnerablities, now I just wonder if you just don't have a PC to handle the big boy games lmao.
Jazeon Wrote:I was giving advice to anyone out there who plans to start any endeavour, which applies quite well to maplestory, i don't mind positive criticism, but the type i'm seeing from you is just plain negative and irrelevant. I stated my opinions you responded to me, you didn't have to yet you chose to. If you don't agree then fine, but please don't try to come off as though your opinions are any more plausible and right than me by challenging everything I say.
They in fact are unfortunately. Your opinion is based on a life perspective, rather than factual, like mine is. Your opinion is really not much different than an uneducated religious zealot.
Also, for your humbleness of trying to save so many poor children from this curse, allow me to enlighten you that, when people choose to play f`ucking maplestory, they don't really come to southperry to make their decision. In fact, since the website is known for it's extractions, more thought out discussions about the mechanics, it's people who presently play who use this website the most. We also have the most veterans per capita than any other fan site. (Hover cursor over southperry.net logo in top left, although the wording is a tad different).

I honestly don't have the patience to go paragraph to paragraph with these circle arguments, pointless is pointless, to each his own.
Moving on to something helpful, it would be nice to know from anyone which point would they think the ceiling for free players should be? By free player i mean 0 Nx bought with real money, only thing invested is time.
Should they be able to get enough gear to solo zakum? Putting this in perspective, with all the link skills and free rings recently any class can solo zakum in reasonable time. So should they lower how long it takes to level up again?
I honestly feel at the present with mpe giving you pretty decent % items starting as a new character and getting relatively strong like 30k would be pretty easy for a new comer, class dependant of course, is that enough or should a free player be able to amount more than that?
Or should they implement a faster looting system or free auto loot pets or something, i think that alone would help a new player tremendously.

As they advertised, everything should be plausible without spending a dollar. The point of business models like this isn't to overwhelm the player to spend, it should be if you just want it quicker. That doesn't necessarily mean, month's to a year quicker though, maybe a couple of days. It isn't and shouldn't be about "How much of this should we give until we slam them with the ceiling". They should encourage you to spend to save time and get small stat bonus', not force you to spend to enjoy all of the content.

Do you think they would be able to maintain the game if it was indeed like that and turn out a reasonable profit to pay all of their employees and profit enough to re-invest?
As in there was nothing you could not attain or do in the game without the use of money, and it just quickens the process as you outlined. Sounds like a completely free game that would fall in a couple months with everyone getting quite bored as things would ultimately be alot cheaper for everyone and not much hassle to aquire anything, making it quite easy. They would have to have some serious content to keep players there for that extended period when they have accomplished everything imo.
Another question what is the appeal of maplestory to older/new players?
For me being a long time player it's slowly building up my main character using links and random gains from other characters on my main to get to the range i desire to solo the next possible boss for me. In this case pink bean. If it was alot easier i probably would get bored and moved on ages ago.

Well, if they did it correctly. There are plenty of games where 80+% of the content is possible within a reasonable (but still "long") amount of time, and this is made substantially easier by paying. Nobody's saying that this should all be accessible with just a few months of dedicated grinding.
For Maplestory, this is impossible without indirectly relying on NX being injected into the economy. Note that nobody's talking about Zakum here. That's considered low level content already.

If it takes day to accumulate enough NX to purchase a pack of cubes, people are going to start mass purchasing to save themselves the effort. Not to mention emergency NX purchases for Karma of scissors or in general purchasing. A lot of maplestory private servers, have survived years by copying the entire game, exp rates, everything, and adding an NX function. You do a party quest you get 300-500 nx, the most generous being 800 nx. Considering that super cubes are 1.2k nx or something, that requires two pq's which take about 10 minutes each. If you could complete dojo it was like 1.5k-2k they had to fiddle with this one, but again, the rates were the same as the official server.
Granted, you have to play around with the major bosses to make it somewhat challenging yet not over run with death, but buffing hp? If some 17 year old can do it, I'm sure a late 20's programmer can manage.

You really believe so?
You read a couple guides and you're set for life with MS. Want to beat a boss? Watch a guide and you're set for life. And since most people can only do a couple they don't have to read/watch much. In Dota, no matter how many guides you read you probably will keep sucking for a looooong loooooong time. Mechanics? Good luck learning every single bit of information you think is useful... and then try to put that into practice, because unlike maple, in dota you need skill.
It's like saying that all games are equally hard because at the beginning you got to learn something.
Maple is the easiest and most mind-numbing game I've ever played. If you think effort and hardwork makes the game hard and worth it, try WoW or similars where you really need to work hard and rewards are actually worth it.
EDIT: I just imagined someone in MS smegaing "Game is hard! D:" hahaha

I like to think of games as something that takes skill or endurance, and can be won or lost. Maple takes neither of those, and simply can't be beaten anymore. It's never been beatable. The definitions for "winning in MapleStory" are countless because it's what each user seeks to obtain out of the game.
Technically some can beat it, if all they care about is getting 1 character to max level and then quitting. As for all others, it's not possible to win. There will always be someone who's that much stronger than you, or can beat a boss that much faster, or has that many more max leveled characters.
MapleStory isn't a game, it's just a moneytrap for Nexon now and will only last another 1-2 years max.

Farmville does it. Lemme explain in Maple terms...
Okay, there are NX-only items. But most of them are not actually anymore helpful than regular items. You basically get better looking animals/buildings/decorations. Paying cash for items you can't normally get doesn't really make you any better.
The other use for NX is to accelerate/skip tasks. That's just the easy mode way to get what you can already earn. You get forward faster, but it doesn't really make you that much more powerful. Usually, if you're gonna bother with those options, you're just falling behind anyway. The only time it gets you somewhere is "early unlocking" new lands and getting a jump start on developing a new area that everyone else can't access. But ultimately? Farmville isn't competitive anyway. Someone may have more money, cuter decorations that you can get, more experience levels...but it's not like they're doing anything that you can't.
In the end, you don't pay to join, you can get as far as you want without paying, and there's no real ceiling to what you can accomplish due to your lack of spending. The game is still profitable, to the point where the company made a Farmville 2 that runs separately. So it is possible to make such a format work.
