Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
Declaimed Wrote:I was having a hard time believing this couldn't run on a Wii before I saw that Other M stage.

Well that's because it doesn't, It runs on the Wii U (or 3DS).

I wonder how the reset bomb will work and what it will do to the players.

Nothing. It's a background event. It'll be to change the stage from the humans fighting each other background to the inside of the reset bomb forest background.

This is why the Wii U is failing.

How idiotic of Nintendo to release a 3DS version, which is already doing well mind you, and a Wii U version. The Wii U needs games. Having it on the 3DS undermines the point of the Wii U release and that makes me unreasonably angry. Why is Nintendo so fucking dumb with the Wii U?

People have been BEGGING for a portable Smash Bros for the longest time, Even if they are shooting the WiiU in the foot with this, I appreciate them doing this.

Nothing can save the wii u at this point (lol, wonderful101 selling 5k copies in japan). The 3DS version is so that some people actually get to play it.

Oh, that, and the 3ds is underperforming too, and smash might actually make a difference there.
Ot sucks, but there is a lot more money to be made by smash 3ds than smash wii u.
Honestly, I'm wondering how long before the wii u is dropped entirely.

It's a cheaper ds releasing the same day as pokemon. You tell me.

Nothing, it missed Pit in that chapter so smash players should be unaffected too.

It beats Vita.

The 3DS has sold 32.48 million copies in 2.5 years. Meanwhile the DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL have sold a combined total of 153.93 million over the span of 9 years. I don't consider that ~~underperforming~~.

Spoiler: The only other competition in the 8th generation (the Vita) has only sold 2.2m copies as of last year (July 2012), I'm too lazy to get a more recent figure but it doesn't even scratch the surface of the ~~underperforming~~ handheld.

I don't know if you're joking or not. The market went to smartphones and tablets, not the vita. When it's missed every target nintendo has set, and is significantly behind the ds at an equivilant time (3ds is at 32.5m, ds was nearing 47m), then yes it is underperforming compared to what nintendo thinks it should be selling.
Last i checked (stupid u browser means no pdfs so can't be sure right now) the 3ds is set to be tied for worst performing major nintendo handheld in sales. Major means no virtual boy before someone says it.

Means diddlypoop. You might as well set the bar at 'it beats the ngage!'

The mobile market is pomegranate. With many competitors and an open market you have a bunch of people competing for short entertainment bursts with an addicting pay-to-win model (a la Candy Crush). Do you honestly believe that the mobile market is well enough to dwell into with the Android having an open source market that anyone can enter and competitors nearing up at every chance they get? It's not some miracle market where people will automatically make millions of dollars because of brand name, there are multiple people competing there while the Console market is taken up by a majority of three corporations. But you propose for them to go into a moderated market where they have no controls of the profit, where over 7 million people have effectively rooted their devices, and where at least 10% of the iOS phones are jailbroken (couldn't find newer data but I'll be surprised if it didn't increase in 4 years) hindering their sales of products. The mobile market also makes little to no profit. The most active game series on the market that I know of, Angry Birds, with over 1.7 billion downloads has only made approximately 195 million dollars in sales this year but only 71 million in profit yet Nintendo could easily make much more money than that through a successful medium to deliver games. Hint: Nintendo made 73m in profit despite the pomegranatety sales of the Wii U and has about $14,309,400,000 in actual revenue. But no man, I'm surely joking. The mobile market is a fucking money bank, for sure.

It'll last, at least as long as they don't pineapple up with another Wii U failure. Spoiler: The mobile market is pomegranate and anyone who believes people make loads of money off of it is 1) not a developer and 2) a complete idiot.

Words, words everywhere.

Unless you somehow got the idea I think Nintendo should go be a mobile developer (HAHAHAHAHAHA, devices without buttons are worthless for gaming), I have no idea what you're getting at. Please, point out to me exactly where I said anything about the money to be made? I said the market, as in the consumers.
Unless you think the 15m gap in consumers nintendo has lost between gens just vaporized? Because it's either that, or they went to the mobile/tablet space. (And that's not even starting to look at the PSP->Vita market drop).

That, and, it doesn't matter whether we like it or not, a significant amount of 3rd party support has been releasing things on mobile that would have previously been 3DS games.

Besides that, it's blatantly obvious why they're making a 3ds version: The 3DS version of Smash bros will outsell the current number of wii us sold worldwide. (3.61million as of the start of july)

What I'm saying is Smash Bros is a system seller and they messed it up. Had it been exclusive to the Wii U it would have sold a lot of consoles but now there's no incentive to buy the Wii U version. Multiple people at smash communities would have bought a Wii U for Smash but why would they now? They can get the same experience and many more games on the 3DS. There's no reason to get the Wii U version any more if you don't have a console already.

Anyway.

People have been waiting for a portable Smash bros. They got it. Incentive to buy the Wii U version? Im might be wrong here, but im guessing not everyone has a 3DS. That means, you could have friends over, and play the Wii U version with them. Its a party game. Only one system and game needed.

For multiplayer, dear Danny. The 3DS version is not going to offer the same level of competitiveness due to how system to system multiplayer works -- frame lag between players will always be present and play will certainly not be nearly as smooth as it will be on the Wii U.

They stated the 3DS version will focus mainly on single player and customization features, didn't they?

But when the system is 100x less likely to be in the homes of people of any age vs the 360, the PS3, either of their next gen successors, or even a wii?

For tournament purpose, it's easier to see 'everyone' on a tv than on a 3ds.

oy.

I know this obviously. I probably should have phrased it better but it's too late now.
