This is why I don't really play MSEA anymore. What's the point in spending money there when they can't even hire someone to do a proper translation.

Another reason why I shouldn't return permanently in MSEA.
The translations shows the level of Asiasoft's insanity, laziness, senility and professionalisme when translating a content.

You guys talking about the profanity, do you not remember the Pia and the Blue Mushroom quest from pre-Big Bang?
Blue Mushrooms make Pia pissed off.

I still question why they didnt just copy pasta GMS translated content over there. It would have been the easiest thing to do and require less translators as a whole

Secun Wrote:You guys talking about the profanity, do you not remember the Pia and the Blue Mushroom quest from pre-Big Bang? In my humble opinion, I don't consider 'piss' that taboo a word. The Regular Show, for example gets away with using it on Cartoon Network... and, it's not even censored here on Southperry. Now, if you're going to drop S-bombs or call someone a b'astard... well...

Gosh darn it to heck you dastard! <--- Rated PG Anyway, these translations made me laugh. I hadn't realized how localized our NPC names are and how ridiculous it can be to directly translate some of them (badly).

No one screenshot francis? Francis became francis the wire puller.
Seriously the english is giving me cancer. It isn't just bad syntax due to english not being native to the translator. It is pure sloppy work. Full of typo with internet slang added in. Know is spelled as knoe. /facepalm

Sephie Wrote:Gosh darn it to heck you dastard! <--- Rated PG Don't misunderstand me; given the context is appropriate, I'm more than okay with characters muttering things like 'damn', 'hell', or even 'ass'. But when you see such profanity being used in MapleStory, a game aimed at an adolescent audience, in such an unnecessary fashion... it just doesn't feel right (at least... not to me it doesn't). Especially seeing as Francis partakes. ![]() Again this is just my opinion.

In all honesty, some of the characters SHOULD be cursing to the high heavens. How would you respond if an evil mage destroyed your home and killed your family?!
"Oh gee whiz, he burned my family alive. Guess I should go kill snails now, teehee." Um. No. However, this is sloppy as hell.

If this is the best they can do with their updates then their best bet is to wait for GMS to receive the content and then copy/paste everything over from that. At least all the translation will be done beforehand.
2013-08-08, 05:44 AM
I remember, once upon a time, GMS would wait for MSEA to translate content to English, and then get it from there.
How things have changed.

I can imagine parents of some maplers being reluctant to "buy nx" off a site filled with tons of grammatical mistakes. Reminds too much of the poorly written email scams.

DeanNim Wrote:do you really want to have chinglish in gMS. this is not even close to singlish, its just rubbish tbh. No, no, no I'm saying it used to be that MSEA had good English translations. Now they don't, while GMS seems to be putting quite the effort into their localization (AB's story quests come to mind, as well as Monster Life).

These aren't "LOLOLOLOL" translations, they're "ARGH MY EYES THEY BURN" translations.
I usually read quest dialogue, but the translations were so horrendous that a single glance gave me a headache. |
