Stereo farm's couple Bovine S ranks expired. Tomorrow some others are expiring too.
Currently the mix is something like 1 S & 4 A+ Bovine, 1 A+ Mushroom, 2 A Slimes & Snails, 1 C rank Ferret (meh it adds 1 str)
Things that expire more than a week from now:
Bovines - Stereo|||3|||||8/10
Mushrooms - Stereo|||1|||||8/22
Snails and Slimes - Stereo||||2||||8/27
Over the next few days, as the other 5 expire, I'll fill in some A+s and As of the same kinds.
Slimes & Snails section is pretty out of date.

We need a better way to keep this directory up-to-date.
"WIP" is one thing, but the rate of updates is such that it's impossible to expect any one person to manually edit it all in on a regular basis.
We need to be able to set up a shared document (preferably spreadsheet) that can be edited by several trustworthy people (can't have it entirely open or it could get ruined by accident or ill-intent), but publicly viewable to all. Anyone know a tool that can do that? Google Docs? Some kind of wiki?

I have to agree, it is not fair to Chilly to have to update it alone. I think Google Docs would be a good option for that-and yes a trustworthy group would be best.
Maybe someone better with Google Docs could help, but I think it is pretty straight forward from what I have used previously and am looking at now. It would just take a while to get the list together as it should be updated as it is uploaded. I wouldn't mind putting the list together since I have time on my hands while getting those rings. Here is a quick mock-up of what I am thinking and how we would protect it.
I am not sure if it would be easier to have to big documents with regular monster and special, or a separate list for each type of monster. The separate lists would require more start-up by adding all the editors multiple time, but I think would look cleaner in the opening post.
This is just my idea, if anyone knows a better way to do this that would be good. Regardless, we do need a better way to update the farms, especially since farms can change pretty quick.

Google docs is exactly what you want. You can make a user list of owners with edit abilities then just use this forum for non-owners to post updates that any owner can enter. It will have improved sorting capabilities as a bonus.
I'd have to check, but we may even be able to create separate sheets for individuals to update their own farm(s) only, which will then display in the main page.

I was thinking one document with a sheet per monster type - pretty much per "spoiler" we have now.
The specials could be fitted on one sheet.

Hehehe...you guys can say it, no need to gingerly approach the subject. I dropped the ball, big time on this one. I mean to update the Reference, I really do, but after working on all my Attendance mules and training a few levels/using up hour-long expiring EXP coupons, I just can't find the time especially since adding and editing farms no longer took just grabbing them off the screen, I had to check for expiration and such.
I do, however have the time this morning to convert everything to what you all wanted in a publicly accessible and collectively manageable Google Spreadsheet. Their spreadsheet program is pretty basic (i.e. bad) compared to Excel so I'll get everything done there first.
The biggest change you will notice is the removal of the . I intended it to draw individuals to Southperry and to foster farm community development and act as a call-to-arms, where people should look out for changes in farms. While the first goal might have been slightly achieved, I will admit, that over time it was becoming just an easy way to become more visible and rarely did people submit observations on other farms.
The Checkback column indicates when 50% or greater of the specific species will expire, the Last Checked, obviously Last Checked.
The first two species of monsters is complete and will serve as a preview to what the remaining will look like.
Here it is.
Also, let me know if you would like to join the ranks of individuals tasked to edit and update.

You can call it "dropping the ball" if you want to feel guilty, but I meant exactly what I said. Nobody can be expected to dedicate their life to maintaining this reference. You did very well and we just want to be able to help by doing more than writing text that you will then need to integrate into the data sheets.
Your first two sheets look good. Can you make the checkback columns into a "date" data type, so sorting by them will work right?
What do you need from people volunteering to help edit? Gmail address?
Also, does Google Docs offer versioning, or some other method to recover if some well-meaning updater manages to mess it up?

There are so many farms and updates, especially with expiring, that come in it really is unfair to expect one person to keep updating the list. What you have done for us by even make this thread is help with leveling and breeding, and no one can blame you for having a life. Call it what you want, but this method will not only help you but help keep everything more organized.
I think it looks great, and once the name of the doc is changed to the appropriate field it will work much better than before. The only concern is the removal of the . I still think, even regardless of how people have used it, there is a function for it. I think it functions as a mark of a farm that is more trustworthy to still have the monsters on the list. There are time when you can go to one farm without the , and it be completely different from what the list says. I still there is some use for it, even if it can be abused-regardless it is your decision.
It would be nice to help update the list if it is possible, I sent a request on the preview for now.

You can request permission by sending a gmail address, but Chilly; would be the one to ask for how he would like people to sign up.
For your other question, there is a "Revision history" and a restore feature, as well as the ability to download a copy, so I think we will be good if someone make a mistake.

I was able to finish the rest of the reference and imported it.
You can find it HERE.
Also, I decided to try and develop a procedure for individuals without Southperry to submit their farms. The beta of that feature took the form of a Google Form, which can be found HERE.
Much of the reference is still out-of-date and in desperate need of updating, this took what time I had for now, but some of you have already started that work in this thread. Once we cobble together our committee I'm sure we'll have things in tip-top (balloon) shape in no time. Ironically, I'll be finishing my DA on Wednesday, so I'll finally have an hour or two to get back in the trenches too.
I won't lie, I have grand ambitions for this new phase of the reference. Having people that will help on the entire reference is already a great blessing, but being able to selectively allow people to modify their own farms is even better, especially since this is what takes the bulk of the time when updating. It is significantly more time consuming to jump from species-to-species just to type "1" than almost anything else. Also, people with multiple "Play" farms can update their own at their leisure, instead of dropping 10 at once.
Specials and Special Parents have not yet been addressed, I don't know the best way to add them without things getting messy again. Perhaps a second spreadsheet with just those monsters in individual tabs or grouped together A - F or something similar.
If you'd like to help, please create a Google account if you don't already have one and let me know. Even if you aren't selected for full privileges, I can probably unlock your farm(s) cells to let you update independent of myself and others.
SaptaZapta Wrote:Can you make the checkback columns into a "date" data type, so sorting by them will work right?
I am unaware of anyway that someone that does not have permission can alter the spreadsheet in any way. It can be done with permissions, but the change is saved immediately and will be viewed that way until it is changed back. Either change isn't difficult so if someone is cleaning up farms switches it to work, it's no big deal to switch it back after.
Related, in order to get sorting to work out correctly zeroes had to be put in all empty cells which made the reference look catastrophic. Unfortunately Google Sheets has no method to ""hide" zeroes so a workaround using conditional formatting of zeroes to white text had to be done. Silly Google.

I am not sure what you have asked in the bolded section.
I will consider reapplying the chinchilla or some bold/italics combo. I agree that attention should be drawn to reliable farms, I try to own a few single-typed, high-ranking farms, myself. I think the qualifications for special recognition will be as you state: reliably single-typed, or consistently updated farms.
My only hangup with the chinchilla was the two tiers it creates in these original tables; it just doesn't translate well to the spreadsheet, especially if you want sorting. I think some combination of color, font and boldness on the farm name will draw sufficient attention to farms regardless of their position in the table. I would like the chinchilla to be present, but I'm not savvy enough to know how to get it there.
Send me another request, I didn't get your previous one. I think comments were locked, too.

I submitted a request.
As for the specials.... it could be done in one big sheet, with columns indicating the monsters, rows for farms, and value in the cell is the expiration date of the last monster of the type. I think we can do without the count, because if someone goes to a farm to combine with its Amore Spores (for example) and discovers there are two or three or five of them, they'll certainly not complain.
Of course this sheet will be incredibly wide. Scrolling can be done but we need to "anchor" the leftmost column (the one with farm names) so it never goes off screen. Can Google's spreadsheet do that?
Edit: Thank you, JackFrostFanatic. My new-from-today Moon Bunny really took a liking to one of your Amore Spores, and now I have Moon Bunny Twins, too.
Too bad my almost-expiring Dunas had no luck with your Spirit of Light, but can't win 'em all.
