Detective Conan
#1
also known as "Case Closed"

It's a rather old manga made from Japan.

It was the most popular manga in China about 10 years ago (back when I was 7 yr old). I think it still is the most popular manga right now, knowing that many of my chinese friends still read it.

This manga is about detective, the logics in this manga exceeds death note by alot (in my opinion).

Reading this manga could make you smarter. There is a significant positive correlation between the marks and the people who read this manga. (or maybe they are just asian)

anyways i just started reading and I absolutely love it. This manga is seriously the manga I would recommend to you especially if you like to use logic.

I never really got into Mangas but I definitely heard of this one. In China, the TV show of this is broadcast and I see commercials of this all the time. A long time ago, my Chinese Tutor even talked about this which was kind of strange... It's everywhere so I'm pretty sure it's hella popular. So crazy >.<

I only really see the hype among the Chinese, don't see people of other ethnicities talking about this...

Well, I read the manga in a month back in october (incomplete, but it was about 600 chapters). And I finished the movies in a week, and the OVAs in a day, but that's not really important. The plot does feel slow now that I can't keep reading though, since even weaker or boring cases last 3 weeks or so, whereas I can read really fast past them before. It really is a great series though. Ai is the best.

I don't think you can really compare this to Death Note, since they're pretty different.

It's been around since when, 95 or earlier? I have the Taiwanese version manga from vol 35 to 60. I want the Japanese version though, sometimes reading it in another language doesn't really make much sense sometimes X_X
I have all the movies as well, which I watch from time to time. My favourite one is Crossroad In The Ancient Capital, it has a really nice plot and a good case, on top of that a cute little sub-plot and I personally love the Kyoto accent, it sounds so gentle and lovely. <3
I really relate to the character Haibara Ai to myself, so I have a special liking for her, she was willing to sacrifice herself for her friends by reading the timer on the bomb in Count Down To Heaven. Aside from that, I like it when she displays any sort of emotion apart from anger and being totally serious and sometimes even bossy. The way she likes little animals is just cute <3

The live action version has been released in Japan, and I have seen it myself. The cases are nicely put together, but I can't really say much for the actors they chose for life action. I like who they chose for Sherry, she fit the role pretty well. It's a big mistake to cast children into Part 2, because the lil guy looks retarded with the big glasses, and the girl for Ai-chan's role looks weird. The only thing that saved it for me was that they used the original voices from the anime and dubbed over the kids voices... Cases are good, just that the acting and casting for any anime adapted live-action dramas always set out to disappoint fans.

What I have done though, is that I have played the GBA game to Detective Conan, where you have to go around the place like Mario and collect riddle cards and try to solve the riddles. It was pretty fun, and the riddles are very Dr. Agasa style. I have downloaded another game but I haven't really got around to playing it.

Nice series, been around for 10 years, love to try and guess who is the killer/culprit, and I wonder when it ends... XD

I would recommend you not to watch it in English though. I read a few English version manga and I LoLed at the translations which include how they changed the names etc. If you are looking for manga though, you should be able to find them in Borders.

Come on, even Aoyama sensei himself questioned if the N. American audience would be able to understand the riddles/codes/jokes and references in English. The English manga didn't do a very good job of it, and if you really want to understand it, you have to wiki the historical figure/events they referred to. Like the shouguns which was often brought up in quite a few occassions. Although it improves your internet research abilities XP

I'm a huge Detective Conan fan. I have over 90 Gigs of episodes, movies and specials archived on my External Harddrive. Detective Conan has been airing for 13 years, and in spring it will be it's 14th year. The DCTP are the main subbers of this series, and also run the Manga translation and an online Detective Conan streaming service, both with On Demand and "Now Airing" features. :O

Favourite Movie : The Phantom of Baker Street. It was the best written movie to date, with the best plot (YAY SHERLOCK HOLMES!!)

@IcyGreenTea : I disagree with you on your 2nd Live Action stance, cause Kanzaki Nao looked cute in those glasses in an Adorkable way, how I imagined Conan would look. I though it was kinda mean for them to dub over their voices (though I can see why they did it) :o

The kid's name is Fujisaki Nao. Kanzaki Nao is a character from Liar Game.

I must say that they didn't do a bad job for the movies... I have the mentality for the animes to stay as animes... so your imaginations for the characters don't get crushed by the live action. If you know what I mean...

I don't think it's funny nor do I think that people haven't noticed. Quite a few anime do this and personally, I don't think it's such a big deal. The focus of Conan is solving mysteries and having a kid do it. They actually even go through the seasons without a year passing, but it doesn't really matter.
