Job?

Now that I'm a second semester senior in high school, school is but a joke, even with 3 AP courses (these I picked because they weren't taught rigorously, so I can pull off a respectable grade without too much work). I need something better to do than to sit around waiting my college rejection letters to come streaming in, and it's not going to be Maple 24/7. So I want a job.

Would I fit better in a retail job (like at Starbucks, etc.), or would I fit in better at a tutoring center filing paperwork? (Both these jobs pay minimum wage). Which one would be better for me? Questions questions... answer them if you'd like, or point it out to me that you don't know me, so it would be tough answering those questions. Either way, I'm fine.

Keep in mind that if you go for the retail job, you're going to have to deal with people. Most people do not like to deal with people.

Ew god. Dealing with people. You know - I'm fine with dealing with people. It's just jack ass people that I don't like dealing with. My first job was an lolDollar Tree register worker guy. I couldn't stand it just for the simple fact that half the people that came in there were complete asses.

Honestly, I'd perfer the paperwork. Seems like you'd be by yourself, and not around a bunch of people that think they can talk to you the way they do because you work there and have to be polite.

AP Government (moderately challenging course, but I'm a history/politics buff)

How often do you come across idiots in a retail job?

Heh, I actually work in a tutoring center, filling paperwork.

The only thing that's annoying is explaining to little kids some problems...or if a student asks for a help on a problem that you don't know...

Retail jobs are fun. Working with peiople gives you endless oppurtunities to mess with people you'll neve see again

Work at a hardware store.

They tend to pay you well.

It's up to you, really. Would you rather spend your working hours with potential arseholes, or whatever the other job is.

I'd personally take the retail job because then I wont be bored since there will (nearly) always be new someone to talk to, even if they have the brain of a peanut.

How often do you come across idiots in a retail job?

It depends on where you work. The bigger the store, the more idiots you will have to deal with. I've worked 3 different retail jobs, Kroger was the biggest place I worked at and I had to deal with at least one idiot a day, and I wasn't even working on the register. I then worked at a pet supplies store, I didn't have to deal with as many idiots, but I still had to deal with one every 2-3 days. Now I work at a small convenience store and I've only had to deal with one idiot in the past week.

At first it will be overwhelming dealing with the assholes/idiots, but eventually you will learn how to deal with it. The great thing about a retail job is if you don't think you can handle the person, you can always unload them onto a manager. Managers are trained/have experience in dealing with the idiots.

See if your HS can hook you up with a Co-op job/course. It doesn't/shouldn't pay during the school regulated time, but if the employer likes you, they might offer you weekend/after school jobs. These jobs often double minimum wage, and is of interest to you, also they just look better on your resume than McD's.
