Wii U Discussion: Super Mario 3D World out in all the places (that matter!)
valhala556 Wrote:I may have been gone from concole gaming for like 6~7 years or so. But whats with all of these tv console platformers that are 2D? Like this is a serious question. Genuinely upset that most of them I've seen, (and for the wii as well) have like half if not more of the game 2D when its for a console (not handhelds).

Why shouldn't they be 2d just because its a console game?

We're already past the point with the 3DS and Vita where there is a serious technological barrier preventing 3D games on handhelds, or being impressed just because a console game is in 3d.

Honestly, it probably has to do with it being significantly easier/cheaper to make a good 2D game, whereas unless you have some seriously good ideas, your 3D game will be at best mediocre.

Hand Drawn art looks 10x better half the time anyway, especially when they put detail into every little animation.

Nothing wrong with 2D games, at all.

I think it's horrible that there's so many people who are instantly put off by a game BECAUSE it's in 2D. Some of the best games I've ever played were in 2D or "2.5D".

Some of the best games game's I've played were 2D. Namely Metroid: Mission Zero. as of recently. But It just seems mediocore when a concole platforming game is 2D. But then charge like $60 for it. I dont see what the art has to do with it. I prefer the anime style art anyway.

Honestly Im mainly comparing it 3d platformers to Sonic Adventure 2:Battle. Really I think id just have to try one of the new 2D ones. when I see the 2d concole platformers it feels like they would still take like sub 2 minutes to complete. Plus it takes away from emersion and the majority of exploration.

edit:
Lozmaster;

I Dont think their should be many 2D ones because Consoles are expensive and they typically are one of those games when u can finish a stage in sub 2minutes. Also with console platforming games I need this feeling of exploration. and finding hidden secerts and paths. That dont always have to be hard, you just need to know where to look. Which is vastly down graded when you lose a Dimension of play.

Now this doesn't mean I think they will be crap. Just that I think they would be much better if they added a third dimension. Or at least not charge $60 if its only platforming.

The Best Buy demo list is supposedly "leaked"
 Spoiler

I sure hope it's fake.

You can see the locations here.

Most of those titles are underwhelming. Sad

Isn't Super Luigi U already out? And whoopie...Wind Waker remake. I'm all for the remake, but it's not something that's worth showcasing for E3 like that, everyone has already played it.

Pretty much this. I'm more interested in the new game, not a rehash we can get on the gamecube for cheap.

Haha, wow. If that is real, Nintendo america shouldn't even have bothered.

You've been showing Pikmin and Wonderful 101 for over a year now, they've already killed most of the hype for them with the constant delays.

If they want to sell the wii u, 4 games we already know about (With one that will already be on sale at the time of e3) is not the way to do it.

The demo stations need at least two of 3D Mario, Mario kart and Smash Bros to really get people interested. They should also include Sonic lost world and Bayonetta 2 if its in a playable form at E3. A zelda remake of the most controversial mainline Zelda, Pikmin, some mario DLC and Wonderful101 aren't going to sell a Wii U to anyone. Hell, we've already seen 2D mario try and fail to sell the wiiu once already, I'd like to think they're not dumb enough to try it a second time.

It's especially unexcusable that they're relegating this to best buy stores only and not downloadable through the eshop when 3 of those games are out (in various regions) within two months for Luigi and Pikmin, and slightly longer for W101, they are by all standards, done by this point, and they should just let everyone play the demos.

Doubting that list due to the wind waker logo. I'm guessing its gonna have a HD slapped on there somewhere which that picture doesn't have. Could be wrong but yeah.

Also no big fat Nintendo Stamp anywhere

Not to mention that flier just looks shoddy as all get out. If this was real then Nintendo definitely would've supplied fliers themselves and nothing that looks that homemade.

New Super Luigi U is on the eShop. You need to have New Super Mario Bros U to use this DLC(either retail or digital form of NSMBU works). Also, you need to have your NSMBU patched to version (1.3.0), which also adds Wii U pro controller support. Should do it automatically if you have spotpass active on NSMBU.

£17.99 /$19.99

To access it, you need to head on to the eshop, go to the NSMBU page, and then look for the add on content icon on the right hand side. Should be obvious from there.

82ish New stages, Luigi plays pretty differently to NSMBU, the difficulty has been ramped up a bit, but all the courses are shorter too.

Now if only all DLC was like this instead of horse armour crud.

Don't Get Your Hopes Up For F-Zero

Quote:I certainly understand that people want a new F-Zero game," Miyamoto said. "I think where I struggle is that I don’t really have a good idea for what’s new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again

Oh I don't know how about F-Zero X 2 or GX 2 in HD with online play? Yeah online play that's a thing now Nintendo. It seems pretty simple to me. People don't really want a new Mario Kart style gimmick, they just want a pineappleing game period.

What do you expect them to do? The studio who made F-Zero GX is gone, so they can't license them to do one again, and when Nintendo made a fully fledged f-zero (Specifically GP legend), no-one bought it despite it improving on virtually everything GX did (except graphics, being a gba game) , including more tracks, characters, story mode, challenge modes, time attack, etc.

I bet Nintendo watched F-zero X virtual console sales very closely to see if it was worth making another on wwii and decided it wasn't.

Besides that, while Nintendo is flailing around trying to get a decent foothold for wii U, the last thing they need is to waste MORE time in one of the two genres that they actually have good support for on their console. (I.e. racing and platformers).

It would have to be a 3DS game to do well by pokemon standards. Pokemon doesn't sell home consoles (Kinda like animal crossing).

All they have to do is expand on the pokemon stadium/pokemon snap concept. Pokemon snap 2? Wii u would be a must have.

Who wants a pokemon stadium game? X/Y has all the battles in 3D anyway, and tournaments have already wiggled there way into the handheld games in teh forms of the world tournament/battle frontier etc.

ITS POKEMON BUT WITHOUT THE CATCHING OR STORYLINE isn't going to sell anything.

That ship sailed with the wii. The gamepad is too heavy for a game to really use the gyroscope in any significant way for any more than a few seconds. Could make a decent 3DS game I suppose, but then it's still not great.

An open world pokemon where you can train as a trainer along with the pokemon would be fantastic. Everyone has wanted one since like generation 2. Doing a battle sequence like Zoids battle legends with a lot more strategic depth would be incredible. With actual quests, interactions and frankly some more recognition for having a legendary. That's kind of why I said expand, Colosseum almost did it, but the whole steam punk thing was stupid.

Yeah pretty sure if a pokemon snap 2 came out with the wii u, you would buy it no hesitation. Kind of like anyone else. The first one has enough coat tails for an entire generation to be dragged on.
