If MapleStory could have a crossover with a TV Show...
¬Rob Wrote:First impression of SAO; It has 'online' in the name, so it must be about a MMO.. .Hack already did this, and that wasn't interesting. -Reads of it online- Oh, people who play it that die, also die in real life.. .Hack did that. So no. It doesn't matter how underlying the plot is.

I don't see your point.

Maple crossovers have enough animes done, and they're done by Japanese Maplestory, where the animes come from. Why not let the NA(mostly) version do a crossover of a western show?
Adventure Time doesn't have 'wow!' or 'that's cute!'? I totally believe you've never seen it now. o-o

They should be choosing The Simpsons, if anything, if they wanted to do a Western show. And I fail to see how any of the designs in Adventure Time are remotely appealing, considering most of them are only just marginally better than stick figures.

criticizing adventure time for "being a sitcom" and then suggesting The Simpsons? really?

Plus, Adventure Time is exactly that, it's Adventure based, it's even inspired by video games sometimes, and has cute artwork like Maple does. It's a good fit.

You mentioned that the general playerbase is 10~15, The Simpsons is more suited towards an older audience.
The characters being simple makes none of them cute?

If you read what I typed, I said 'if anything'. So if they had to choose a sit-com-like show, The Simpsons would be a much better choice for a number of reasons:
a) a much longer-running franchise with a much larger fanbase
b) people outside of NA have actually heard of it/watched it

Adventure Time fitting Maple because it's 'adventure-based' and 'sometimes' inspired by video games? That's certainly sounds like a strong argument.Tongue

Wasn't supposed to be a strong argument, it was just an example. I've made my argument before, not doing it again.

If the option I voted for wins, then everyone made the right choice.
If the option I voted for doesn't win, then it was just a popularity contest voted by people who have no idea what they're doing.

Also it only follows video game rules when it feels like it for dramatic purposes.

I still don't understand why it is so popular, it's the most generic anime I have ever seen in my life, and I've watched a lot.

SAO is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a quagmire of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive blatant fanservice and self-insertion. The normal Southperrian can see this as the pomegranate it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the pomegranate of its core make it a breeding ground for unsociable underage plebians who engage in every kind of idiocy both online and in the real world. The Mary-Sue characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the peculiar, colorful clothes, everything about SAO fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of pomegranate that makes little kiddies and underage fools eat this pomegranate right the pineapple up.

There's a distinct lack of subtlety in just about every facet of Sword Art Online. Of course, this is pretty much to be expected, since the original SAO was just a Light Novel: basically a glorified fanfiction book.

Isn't there already some Naruto stuff floating around the Cash Shop that snuck in at some point in the early days, or am I just imagining things?

Full Metal Alchemist would suit Khaini well, Given the fact that FMA is a depressing anime and Khaini is a depressing server.

The person I mentioned won because she was popular, while her entry was made almost in paint, leaving behind quality entries that actuall fitted the contest. People only saw that X person was doing X thing, and everyone rushed towards it not even caring what the contest was.

I just find it odd that the only option winning over the rest doesn't even have airing time on USA, from what I heard, or isn't even translated. Yes, the winning TV show in USA is one that doesn't exists yet. I doubt people even read the part about "TV" on the poll, or what it seemed to me deducting from that, that few people actually read "Maplestory" either.

Which is where it becomes very entertaining, because that means pretty much everyone who voted for it has watched it illegaly online. I HIGHLY doubt the people behind SAO are going to want a crossover event with a region that doesn't even have the show yet. The whole idea of crossover events is that both sides get represented. what profit would SAO make from this at all?

I'm pretty sure all the other anime's mentioned have been officially translated into english and released in the US, so they don't have the same problem.

SAO had an official simulcast agreement with Crunchyroll. So whilst they may not be released yet in physical disk media, the episodes are certainly available through easily accessible legal means online. I believe the show can still be watched for free even now with official subtitles.

So uh, what was your point again?

Because there's no purpose. Just some developer said "Hey I saw the hunger games recently(Or the original japanese version) and you know what, we're going to apply here to YOUR lives HAHAH WOULDNT THAT BE GREAT".
