DotA2 - Original Thread

Also the scepter changes aren't really that amazing, they'll still have to farm 4.2k gold for an item that doesn't do much outside of the ult buff(And the silence ult buff isn't even that great)
Omni might be run mid or off-lane. Not sure, but the scepter changes are good and situationally worth picking up, but not anything that'll turn a hero from not picked to picked everytime.
Now, necro aghs on the other hand is pantsu on head retardedly stronk.

Enter the lategame. Ult their carry. Refresh and kill their #2. GG NO RE.

The Doom Scepter change makes me laugh. Doom can just kill you by going racecar mode. It'll be hilarious if it also works while Doom is invisible.
Refresher isn't worth it at all and doesn't fit necros regular item-choices at all especially since the majority of the stats are wasted on him. Preventing their #1 from returning to the fight is plenty.
Although yes i can imagine it being quite funny going etheral blade dagon 5 refresher aghs. Instant kill 2 enemies.

ALSO THE BIGGEST CHANGE IS OBVIOUSLY THAT BALLER KING CAN NO LONGER BE PLAYED LIKE HE USED TO Sad

Note: In dota1 where legacy keys apply T is the key to use Hellfire blast for skeleton king.
I was watching this the other day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHH1ee5z4zA and thought it would be great to do it myself, practice and learn stuff. Would any of you like to join me and give me some feedback in how I'm doing? Without being mean preferably hahaSmile
I'm also having problems denying stuff because I click on creeps before pressing A. I read it was possible to set up left click to deny, would it interfere with anything else?
Also, is there a way so that you don't have to set up a circle in exp radius manually every time you start the game?
The only thing right click deny intereferes with is that you now have to manually use the "move" command(Default 'M') if you want to follow something.
I'm too used to regular denying to apply it, but it should be fine.

Also let me see if i can find the guide, yeah, here it is: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmess..._id=337793
This should have a lot of information.
I look down on macros like auto invoking stuff for invoker though, should be removed and made impossible.

Thank you very much! I don't know if I'll be using most of them... I'm not even sure if I want to right click deny now, will try it out and see.
Some awesome ones I didn't even know about and I will surely use them... I just hope I don't mess up anything. I've always hated setting up things, like WoW addons.

UPDATE: Setting up last night was dumb, sleepiness made me not notice I was placing the .cfg file in the wrong folder lmao. Also, yeap, right-click deny is weird and I don't think I'll use it. Missing a couple isn't a big deal so I'll keep practicing a+click and I'll be decent at it someday. I still can't set up "move to recent ping" command, which seems nice because sometimes I miss them. Other than that I won't be using most of them other than displaying exp radius and automatically controlling summoned units.
Every time some idiot picks ursa and thinks he's gonna stomp people, I just pick Pugna.
It's turned out quite well for me. I kinda like phase eul's aghs because oblivion doesn't stop for speed limits.
1hour+ game that could've been won around 30-40min mark just because of someone who didn't knew crap about his hero.
I was playing Nyx and ganked the hell out of a Sniper, he even quit after the 3rd or 4th time before 20mins or so, it was 4vs5 and it took us 1:08 to pineappleing win just because Tinker wasn't split pushing. I told him more or less how Tinker works but it's hard to learn just like that so at one point I had to click on him constantly to know what he was doing and give him step by step instructions. Should've been fun but I'm so stressed right now.

So stressed that I forgot I had a question... when playing Nyx and the games goes for toooo long what can I do to stay relevant in game? After they got a bit tankier my stun and mana drain weren't doing enough so I got a Dagon but the game went on and the Dagon became useless after a while. Are Dagon upgrades ever useful?

Either go dagon 1 or dagon 5. Eblade is also a decent pickup if you don't opt for the dagon 5 route (but do opt for dagon 1). Ideally, pick up dagon 1 ASAP. It's an item for preying on underleveled, underfarmed heroes like supports as early as possible into the game. Don't get it as a reactionary move to them getting tankier. If you're Nyx and you're trying to carry your team to victory in a pub game, you need to rush dagon no matter what because if you don't abuse your early advantages you will lose because Nyx really doesn't scale late even if you're landing 3 or 4 man impales.

Yeap, really really cool hero to play and I can make it work early-mid game but carries in my pubs just don't farm fast enough to actually carry the game fast enough and it's because they focus on killing instead of pushing, they'd rather dive and kill instead of let him retreat and just get the tower. Also, I'm playing it as Support/Ganker so rushing Dagon or Eblade isn't as easy because I'm the only one warding, upgrading courier, last game I also felt like getting a Mek because no one else would do it... Despite having fun and being sorta good, I don't think I'll play him that often.
I hate not being a better player to get out of low level pubs.
There's a difference between being a good player and playing like you're playing with good players. Your team won't take advantage of the wards you're placing down to defend them, so place aggressive wards in the enemy jungle so you can troll around their jungle and kill them. Upgrade chick so you can get your dagon upgrades faster. Play him as a ganker, doesn't matter where you're coming from. Mid, support, whatever. 3 branches and consumables into wand brown boots and null talisman, get a kill or two so you can pick up arcane boots, then get dagon 1. You're pretty much free to do whatever from there on out. Dagon upgrades? Sure. Eblade? Why not. Necrobook? Go for it. Heart? pineapple yeah. Radiance? YES! The key to winning games with Nyx in pubs is being selfish. Being a team player when your team has the combined IQ of a mentally disabled snail is a problem. Solo kill is the name of the game. Don't blame your teammates for being awful; the other team is just as bad. In the end it is your play that matters in a pub game. So play like it. If you're devoting your energies to getting people of questionable judgement farmed and fed, you're doing something wrong.

Oh god, don't get a Mek on someone like Nyx. He needs every single point of mana to make the other team's squishies have a bad time. Similarly, a Mek on an Earthshaker is a bad idea as well. Playing Support doesn't mean a Mek is needed. You can get similar healing results with an Urn of Shadows. In fact, that's the perfect healing item to get on Nyx since he's so gank-oriented that those charges will fill up quickly.
Any hero that can farm a mek in reasonable time, has the mana pool to support it and is going to be in the middle of a fight is a good mek carrier. Even nyx.
Keyword being in reasonable time. Don't get it past 30 minutes, but if you can get a 15 or 20 minute mek somehow, that's not at all bad.

Granted this is only good if you're playing with allies that can utilize the fact that you have a mek. If your allies are retards(A lot of the time) you can skip the mek just fine.

But in a good team mek on nyx isn't bad at all.

this is why custom games are some of the coolest things ever. I introduced people to the fun of eblade + dagon 5 + shadow blade. In retrospect I probably should have kept BoT's instead of heart, I was just so slow and if I got caught I was dying anyhow.
If someone needs beta keys, i have like 7
This is an idea in the making, but how would you guys feel about having a DoTA meetup, where we invite both non-MOBA players and LoL players along so they can have a taste of the game without dealing with pub people?

Giving away beta keys on the DoTA thread = lol

That'd be really fun, I have 29 keys for anyone that decides to play with us. How open are southperrians to try new games and actually commit? Every time I befriend someone that comes from LoL and is learning the game, they end up quitting because there's a lot to learn. The other thing friends have told me is that they don't want to loose their LoL friends so they won't even accept my beta key Sad.
Also, where else would we give away keys? New thread for just that?

We could. It's kind of a given that people posting on a DoTA 2 thread will 99% of the time actually have the game. Unless we want to give all our passes to a single person.

Also, that's why I feel we can act as coaches for them while on each team, since there's a lot to take in. And hey, there's no harm in trying DoTA, since it's the one that pretty much started it all. I went from playing a bit of the original DoTA way back, but couldn't get into it since I didn't know what the crap I was supposed to be doing with my hero. Years later I went to LoL but didn't play as much because there was a lot to take in even for that game, but later had a friend coach me live as I played a game as Olaf. I played a little bit more LoL as time passed. Later, two friends of mine told me about DoTA 2. One coached me through a practice game, and I watched him play two games himself. In the end DoTA 2 was the hook, line, and sinker.

So long story short: played the original DoTA, forgot all about it for years. Later got into LoL around when Southperry was endlessly talking about it. I thought LoL was the game I'd eventually get into since I thought it was fun, but DoTA 2 re-caught me in the end. Now I mainly play LoL with a real life friend occasionally, and DoTA 2 is my primary.
I want a coach mode to be implemented. It'd be nice if I could actually watch a friend play in real time and comment on their play.

Mek is actually pretty decent on Nyx.

Yeah it would. It took me some live coaching to just get into DoTA 2.

And does it really work? I would love a replay of a support Nyx with Mek. My brain just can't wrap around the idea of Nyx having the mana to both gank the crap out of everyone and Mek. Now a Nyx with stuff like Euls or Necro, I can imagine that being really evil to have on Nyx.
What do you mean? He's got decent int, his spells aren't super expensive, and he usually gets Arcane boots. He's better on mana than say Earthshaker or Vengeful Spirit.

Besides, Mek only costs like 85 net mana once you factor in the +5 int it gives.
