My first time it took me many tries, around 20~30.
Second time it was less than 10 tries.
And today, my friend collected 50 axes only to find out that he got the correct axe on his first try, lol.

Thanks to hidden-street, I brought about 20 axes with me from Victoria Island.
I think I found the right one within the first five.

If the success rate hasn't changed from older versions, it's a 10% chance of the correct axe and 18% for each of the other five axes.
Though both characters I've done the quest on recently got it first try - if only I could be that lucky with scrolls...

the axes from stumps arent really rare, so its not a big prob...
i just stocked up like 30 axes (to be on the safe side) and it took me like 20 tries.

Since the ETC drop is from all Dark Axe Stumps, it would be better to collect them outside of KFT, due to the low spawning rate of the stumps with the bunnies, etc.
It took me around 7-12 times to get the axe. Funny thing is that the other axes are tradable. Not sure about the actual axe.

When I did this quest I collected all the axes in Korean Folk Town. That was a real pain to do. Bringing your own axes makes the quest go along much much faster.
