Wait, isn't Demon Slayer's homeland in southern Minar Forest? Or is Nexon being indecisive again?

Just because he lived in Minar does not mean the demon race hails from there.

As a start, at least change NLC and CWK in the EMS version (with a pottable MoN, no aliens and an event-only haunted house). Then either give Haunted House and Aliens to all versions or none (IMO, you should keep the GMS Haunted House and give it to all versions with non-KMS NLC and just throw away Aliens.)
I must admit that this opinion is partially caused by the thought of revenge and teaching GMSers that there are other places than NLC, LHC and KSH to level. EMS only has a nerfed KSH with a 20% party bonus and no party play Hall of Honor.

I can train anywhere in the maple world if it gives me experience. Does that mean I should take the least efficient path's in order to do so? This logic has always been retarded. And teach? By your logic we should teach you how to scroll since GM scrolls were as common as snail shells once upon a time.

Girasol Wrote:So, just out of curiosity - what did you guys not like about the KMS Crimsonwood PQ? We didn't have any plans to bring it over, but I'd like to hear specifically what you didn't like about it...and if there was anything you DID like about it. Thanks!

I didn't like how it was completely "out of place", and definitely didn't give the feeling which the old Masteria gave.

More importantly, I just didn't like the fact that KMS recycled all those map objects to make "their" Masteria and "their" Crimsonwood PQ. They have all the (legal) rights to do it, but really, why ruining so much such a masterpiece? I think that only those who appreciated it fully enough like me and other veterans here could ever understand the pain to - at first - see it ruined with the Alien Invasion and Destroyed NLC releases and - then - to see it laughed at and stomped on with this pitiful attempt to make a "new" area for KMS, which could've been outdone by many amateur map makers on private servers.

PLEASE @Girasol, listen to my and many others' prayer: if you can in any way influence the development team, PLEASE convince them to take back the whole old Masteria, fully (quests, etc. included). Obviously small improvements (such as increasing the HP of some bosses) are allowed, but the whole Aliens idea was terrible, along with that of "revamping" (=destroying) Masteria's Phantom Forest and the Valley of Heroes.

Now, I was going to write some more opinions on this matter, but I gladly see that other people already have done it for me.

Quickjumper7 Wrote:Because I don't know the storyline in KMS's version, I can't compare those. I do have to say that I love the original Masteria storyline though.

What I dislike about KMS's Masteria are almost all the same as what I dislike about GMS's alien revamp:
1. Map Simplicity
2. Monster Simplicity
3. Hub/Linear Map Connection

The original Masteria was amazingly creative. There were enormous hilly maps, mountainous jump quests, and dangerous cliffs that you could fall from to your death. There were hidden caves, a maze, and map intersections where you could choose your path to explore. The monsters did new and rare things; some flew, some had incredible damage, some were anchored in place. And the monsters were all placed in equally fitting maps that matched their function. Typhons were placed in maps where the player could be pushed off, and Bigfoot was placed in the maze where unsuspecting travelers would come across it.
Now, combine all of that creative game play with an epic storyline... and no wonder Masteria has so many fans!

Then, in comes KMS... To see them alter Masteria like this, to destroy every amount of originality that ever existed in it, even beyond the desecration that GMS committed with the alien revamp... it hurts to watch.

I completely agree with all this guy said. Please read carefully the bolded parts, as they are the most important arguments about why the Alien Invasion, Destroyed NLC and Masteria Revamp were overall terrible in my opinion.

You know, the great Sheloman Byrd (known as "NxProse"), who created most of the old Masteria, was just a GENIUS. He was able to write those adventurous and epic storylines that guy talked about, to design those interesting NPCs and amazingly / complexly structured maps, containing epic-looking, exciting new mobs. He did most by himself, since he was both a writer, a designer and had a huge creativity.

I don't even know how to say it. The Masteria content he provided GMS with was NEVER disappointing. He gave Masteria that intense feeling of mystery and adventure which no other area in the game could reproduce well enough. Not such an intense one, anyways.

I find it a shame it got ruined like that. WHY did Nexon America's team have to destroy Masteria in such a horrible way? Why did they have to ruin such a masterpiece by making plain boring maps (which anyone with a map-making software could develop) and replace the exciting old complex ones, including the deletion of an exciting and adventurous jump quest, which was a creative way to reach an epic place such as Crimsonwood Keep?

Destroyed NLC is depressing enough as is, so I had hoped for a REALLY GOOD storyline and overall a much higher content quality. Instead, maps were made in a very bad - and, apparently, rushed - way (map elements were re-used, the placing of which gave a completely out of place and uncreative look to them, etc.). Quests were TERRIBLE and completely not following Sheloman's first project: the NPCs' "personalities" and ways of being, coming from the previous ones created with the amazing writing skills of NxProse, were changed in worse, making the whole Masteria lose its seriousness and epicness. For example, the first quest "Major of Disaster" of Destroyed NLC starts with Icebyrd Slimm telling you that the "town is going bananas" and other random unfunny jokes which only 5 year old kids would laugh at, right after a major earthquake destroying the town HE had built with no little trouble, according to previous quest text from that NPC. Then, the rest of the quests don't really fit his personality. But, afterall, Sheloman made Icebyrd Slimm look like him, and he wrote his text as well. After this Aliens update, it became way too obvious that he has left the company.

In any case, the whole Alien Invasion idea was completely uncalled for (especially after the relatively "recent" Unwelcome Visitor Event), and didn't follow the way Prose wanted Masteria to expand. You could've released an expansion to Bigger Ben, Vineland, Yetinx, Affluent Tower, Versal.. but no. You decided to destroy New Leaf City and ruin the design of an amazing piece of art... Tongue

Takebacker Wrote:3) General lack of respect for what a LOT of people consider to be one of the best content updates the game has seen in it's history, for more than just the actual content. The hype generated from the words "masteria update" back in the day inspired tons of people to actually stay up all night for updates and information...now it's almost always responded to with the masteria troll panda.

Exactly what I think. It's simply disrespectful to NxProse and his work.

Now, what I'm asking for is: try to somehow bring back that amazing developer to your company or just make a contract or something to cooperate with him on Masteria (even just for ideas). He seems to really be the only person who could ever save that content, which, as Takebacker and many others have said, was one of the best updates of the entire game.

If you can't do that, nor can follow Prose's way of structuring Masteria, just bring back the old one and don't touch it again. It was perfect as it was, really.

I always enjoy reading your comments about Masteria. You clearly care about it very much.

I don't think it is fair to wish Prose to come back to Nexon. I believe he is enjoying his current job quite well. However, I don't think that he is the ONLY person that could lead Masteria development. According to Prose, the development team actually had a layout of future content for Masteria when he left. I don't think that Nexon is such a horrible company as to throw out those plans, so they should still have them. That means that if there is a creative leader in the team, he or she could take over the original Masteria plan development.

Of course, Nexon also has the resource of its fans to help out. I don't know about everybody here, but I for one would jump at the opportunity to suggest ideas for future content. Then there are all of the records of Masteria content that Isaac and others created. One look at Isaac's threads should give Nexon ideas for several updates.

Well, if Prose is enjoying his current job, then I wouldn't certainly wish him to come back to Nexon. But if he only quitted for low salary or something, then I wonder whose idea was that of not giving him a higher one to make him stay. Hell, if I was Nexon America's boss back then, I would've given him a much more priviledged position, seeing his dedition and (appreciated) hard work.

In any case, I agree with you when you say that there are people in the community who could suggest amazing stuff for Masteria.

The worst part is that they don't seem prone to listen to their players' feedback.

Too bad, as their design team did a much worse job with the Masteria revamp than many Southperry members here could've done.

Pardon my rudeness, but Haunted Mansion should have never been released in the first place. No offense to the people who rather explore it for fun. Exploring it during Halloween is fun, but whoever thought it was a good idea to keep it as part of Masteria is downright stupid as Haunted Mansion is more of a Halloween theme meaning it should be an event only type of content.

The haunted mansion is awesome, and it fits even outside halloween... With the old phantom forest. All maze like maps are grouped in one place that fits. The monsters inside may be a different thing. There's a lot of wasted potential in there, with monsters of such low level, but make it a bit better with higer level monsters, recovering the old storyline, a "final area" like the old chimney thing, but with monsters and a linear progression, until you reach a boss, new to the storyline, as a climax, and you got yourself a unique dungeon.

EDIT: And also, Combattente; got this quite right. It's just too much lost, and easily recoverable.

As for storyline, it can be as easy as "We rebuilt it, and aliens are gone... But something is suspicious".

Then add the time machine to check out the future.

BAM. DESTRYED FUTURE NLC. And since aliens were here in the present before, Nebulites make sense to drop and all.

I'd say they should rather make it so that it was all an illusion, and NLC never actually got destroyed.

They should add a quest to be able to go back to the "real" dimension of Masteria (e.g.: one that requires killing a boss that manipulates dimensions). They could say something on the lines of "travelers were sent to another illusional dimension while trying to reach NLC". Naricain could've been the bad guy behind all this. It'd get well along with the mystery of Masteria. Afterall, Icebyrd Slimm has told us about a lot of weird stuff like that which happened in the past to that continent..

I just wouldn't want destroyed NLC to be real. Even making it as a future dimension would mean that NLC gets destroyed in the future. That's just sad and makes any effort made for current NLC useless.

The rebuilding idea would work, but it still wouldn't explain how comes that some areas, which disappeared completely after the earthquake, would become available again (I'm talking in the case that they bring back all the old maps, including the Phantom Forest Maze and Valley of Heroes JQ).

The illusional dimension seems the only way to go, if they still want to recover the whole beautiful old Masteria.

Only after doing that, they should - in my opinion - try to expand it. Expanding the "disaster" they've released with the last update without fixing it, just means "R.I.P. Masteria" to me, unless they prove to be able to make content at least SIMILARLY good to that which Prose made. In that case, I'd still be sad about how they destroyed Masteria, but I'd somehow try to accept it by looking at the good sides of it.

Good sides which, at the present time, I cannot see at all.

I think we should have a spooky-halloween themed town anyway. The Haunted Mansion and the Mushroom Shrine graveyard are the only real "spooky" areas in the game, and I think Maplestory's art style could do "cute and spooky" really well.

Like a continent of nightmare creatures, vampires, ect. could also lead to some interesting classes.

A bowman-branch Vampire Slayer could be pretty cool. Uses a crossbow that fires stakes, uses holy water and some light spells. Not a very original idea, but hell, we need more bowman classes.

The release of Masteria reminds me of what I think of as the golden days of Maplestory. Makes me think of when my friend's and I had the most fun in Maple; perseverance was a must, but the reward was always worth it.

Girasol, I'm not sure if you're able to give any information, and perhaps this is a bit off topic, but are there any plans for the adoption of EMS's Supreme Server? It seems like this is as close as we're going to get to a 'hard mode Maplestory.'

If not, do you think an 'old school' server could be possible? It seems like other long lasting games such as RuneScape are picking up on the idea of a classic server (http://oldschool.runescape.com/).

I am personally a big fan of the EMS Supreme Server, but I don't know if we'll get it or not.

It hasn't done so well on EMS, but then again, EMS doesn't have nearly as many old, nostalgic farts as we do. Tongue
