How much power is enough power?

Simple economics. How exactly is that "corrupt" and wrong in any way?

He's implying merchants taking advantage of ignorance for cheap prices is wrong when it isn't.

Before Legendary pot, I had over 200% STR, and was one of the top Drks in Scania, I was happy.

I've since sold off all my gear, and just play MS for fun or if I have spare time, I now have less than 60% str, I'm still happy. When I see characters hitting millions and millions in one attack, it just seems silly. Taking down bosses in seconds, and having a maxed out range.. I dunno, just doesn't seem fun anymore. But to each his own!

I'm not saying buy low and sell high within itself is corrupt. I am saying that overindulgence of it is. When someone makes it their life's work to underbuy/oversell rather than actually playing the game (training/bossing), they've been corrupted because of it, and because they are obviously greedy. Wow, some of you guys catch on quick.

Like I said above, when you're overdoing it I think it's greedy and corrupt.

I only upgrade my equips now because there isn't really anything else for me to do in MapleStory. I can solo the viable end game bosses (Empress and normal Magnus) pretty easily, but hard Magnus and the Chaos Root Abyss bosses are still too far out of reach even with a capable party.

Be fair I think she was talking about the actual scammers, who promise to pay and then don't. Nexon doesn't do anything about it, and the game is so reliant on NX-meso trades that without MTS, it's gonna keep happening.

Merchants who rely on ignorance for cheap prices are a natural consequence of the awful market MS has. There's no easy way to price check even items with fixed value - let alone one-offs like anything with potential and scrolling. So the merchant who's using 3 hours a day to scan the FM has an advantage over the player who just logs on to hunt sometimes. Not only do they know what's been sold today, but whether they were good deals or not.

At what point is it corrupt? Maybe greedy, but merchanting is an acceptable practice by nearly everyone in the free market, and there is nothing wrong with it, nor has nexon held any guards against it. There is nothing "corrupt" about it.
The only point I draw the line is when one person buys out all stocks of specific, high in demand items to resell at completely ridiculous prices because said person has full monopoly.

Well I guess you're right. But again I'm just saying that it can be corrupt as to how someone merchants rather than the fact that they merchant. There's a huge difference between merching regular items and duped/botted items. There's a difference between browsing the fm for something that's a very good deal and going out of your way to find people to deceive into buying/selling/underpaying/overpaying all day. I can't just say that any/every act of merching is absolutely normal when the entire economy of the game is as broken as it is.

If only we had cash trade system, higher meso cap, and/or "exchange items" (ex white scrolls), scamming wouldn't be so easy.

In regards to the merchant discussion, as already stated, buying low and selling high is not corrupt. It's basic economics. The beauty of a free market system is that someone can sell something for whatever price they want depending on how long they're willing to take. This is how the economy in most RPG's work, and how money and items are circulated.
Now that statement is out of the way, there is nothing corrupt about devoting all or a majority of your time to it. If someone willingly puts their item up for an amount of mesos, no matter the price or their ignorance of how much they could be making, that is the price they decided and agreed upon. If you are buying scrolls 10mil less then what they are worth and someone agrees to it, that is a mutual agreement. This isn't scamming, this isn't greed, it's basic economic skills.
This is a game, a Role Playing Game at that. If someone decides they find enjoyment out of accumulating wealth through being a devoted merchant, they have every right to enjoy themselves and are not guilty of anything.
Duped items or items obtained through malicious means have no relevance in this matter then besides the fact that if someone is using them to make money they deserve to be banned. Everything else mentioned is common practice and fair game.

New equipment comes out, the cap could be raised, and a new standard of godly is set. So we're at a crossroads, most of us at least: we can either choose to spent additional but MASSIVE amounts of money to find the quickest means for the new standard of godly, spent endless amounts of hours learning to merch effectively to avoid spending lots of real money, or just be accepting of the fact that people will have a significant amount of better damage than you.

This was the main thing I wanted to hit on. Because how does the equipment become "obsolete" but the monsters you fight remain the same (for the most part). So what compels the mentality that your equipment becomes obsolete when new equipment is release. Other than the instances where they ramp up monsters.

I know it sounds kind stupid but I mean like better equipment is better equipment, but that doesn't stop you from doing the same things. (granted monsters dont evolve into anything)

The need to upgrade doesn't just exist with nothing to drive it. There are huge ridiculous gaps in between them, but there is always a higher boss for one to strive to kill in this game. It doesn't even need to be the end game. People just want power to do the things they do easier than they did without it. I could have done empress before hypers if i REALLY wanted to but it was too hard to do other than as an accomplishment. I could have upgraded a lot more of course, but you ask yourself this question until nexon nudges you with a power increase for doing nothing and then that increases the drive even more.

Until your normal attacks hit the damage cap on the Black Mage himself, you are not powerful enough.

So buy some NX today!
