Scheduled Game Update - April 30, 2013

Dopey Wrote:Honestly, I agree with @Justin. Why do some people assume that funded players just have everything handed to them or buy their way in? It's certainly not true for everyone. In fact, most of the well funded people I'm friends with have reached where they are now by working hard and playing the game and not just pumping their own cash into their characters to get there. Every one of them at one point was at the same place some of us less funded players are at. Yeah I'm one of those players that has capped out around CHT and Czak, etc, but I'd be straight up lying if I said I couldn't find someone who would love to go on that V2 run, or that PB run, or Ranmaru, or whatever high level content there is that I can't handle solo. The problem with people seeking freebies from all these events are that they think they need those hand outs to upgrade their characters or get rich quick without doing too much work, and then they just lay dormant after the event and wait for the next one before they do it again. If people put the same amount of effort they do with raking in rewards from events into attempting things like V2, empress equips wouldn't be a market dominated by the only people who aren't too lazy to take the time to fight Empress everyday. And those people just happen to be the really funded people because the less funded people don't even bother trying.

And no one can say that its too hard to find people to boss with. Join a guild, post in a forum, ask randoms, make some friends x.x
If it's really true that 90% of the player base is too weak to fight these bosses alone, then that just means there's 90% of the player base for you to team up with and fight the bosses together.

Oddly enough, I'm more or less in between the two notions. Most of my gear and previous meso were all generated from previous events(had stored 6 50% 2h watk scrolls for a long time, made ~4.2 bil, Deflated Mardia's chaos scroll price as a duo along with someone else during Chaos patch with someone else before the dupe hacks went in(deflated chaos scrolls from ~6m to 4m because selling lv 64 maple weps for 4m pissing off many other merchants, took advantage of events to make definitive upgrades to my gear(19x empress 1h axe is example, entirely event scrolled, got a few mw20 books to sell through older events, these are just more preeminent examples of how events got me money) and I kind of do rely heavily on events to increase my damage. But I DO agree that most people cannot kill without someone else being there. Luckily for me, being a Demon Slayer, Bind is actually useful so I get to go one runs that lower end people tend to not get to go to. Because of friendly connections, I can sometimes have first dibs on small things(first few to get empress soldiers right after the patch when I finally for the longest time hit 200). Its just perseverance and really when to go make money if you are lower class to get out if you don't want to spend actual money in the game. For reference, Ill note my current armor when I hit 200 and how I got them, nearly ALL of it was either event based, or required little effort to get. Its the fact that lower class people tend to not try hard enough to get such simple attack bonuses. even how pitiful my armor was, I still out damage some folk sadly:

Hat: 9% Angelic Buster Hat thing (Event)
Top: 4% Lv 40 Warrior(F) top (forged)
Bottom: 4% Lv 40 Warrior(F) bottom (forged)
Gloves: 4% Lv 40 Warrior gloves (forged)
Shoes: 4% Lv 40 Warrior shoes (forged)
Belt: 6% green dex belt (forged)
Earrings: 6% half earrings (forged)
Weapon: 121(?)atk Lv 105 DRPQ 1h axe (pq, entirely scrolled with tablets, which should be easy to get)
Cape: 6% 6atk PAC(excusable one, on a side note, still doesn't stop someone from working for a Helsium Cape)
Pendant: MoN (pq)
Face: 6% 105 crusade face(in game item totally obtainable)
Eye: some event glasses(would be crusade eye accessory if i scrolled a good one)
Shoulder: crusade shoulder, crap potential(expired game function)
Shield: 3% total damage force shield(cubed by event, epic potential by event)

Ring 1: Evo Ring 1 (event)
Ring 2: Evo Ring 2 (event)
Ring 3: Evo Ring 3 (event)
Ring 4: 5% crit ring (event)
Badge: Jett Badge (event)

Totems: Entirely event totems of course

Half of my items are totally obtainable with some effort but not much. the problem is many people are lazy. simplistic weapons like I had at least can get me into boss runs. since hitting 200, i was more free to use my meso and go boss running and upgrading my equips.

I still haven't equipped my (mostly 6% empress equipment, 19x axe, empress shoulder is unscrolled, I bought unique top and unique bottom) and my damage will change tremendously probably equipping them all at once.

I don't blame players saying that its hard to boss(I had friendly connections so made it easier on my behalf) and take advantage of events, as I do myself, But I have a hard time defending the lowest of the low because they absolutely don't even try much. I mean my minimalistic armor above lasted me to 200, I don't know why some players cant work a bit to obtain something similar. Now, there's 6-12% tempest pendants, shoulders, belts everywhere, and the current event rings are good evo ring replacements(at least 1 and 2). Basically all of my equips were a work over time for the most part. I don't mind events that make it easy to get some equipment, but theres a point where someone is asking for too much. If i can survive getting to 200 with dinky level 40 armor which cost very little to invest into, then I dont know what people are doing. I do agree that rich dont get handed to them, but a good amount of events go into their favor. its just the people who complain and don't do anything for themselves that have a problem, as it isn't hard to close the gap a tiny bit at least.

I agree that there are people not willing to work, HOWEVER, for those of us who do work towards our goals, it's nice to know Nexon has our back sometimes, even if it's just their way to make us spend money on stuff.

It IS hard to boss. I've never completed a boss run of any kind (minus Pre-BB BF which my lv 71 CB solo'd and CWKPQ which imo doesn't count) because my computers just couldn't handle it, and when they could, I wasn't strong enough. Finding people to boss is a pretty diffivult thing as well. As much as I'd like to snap my fingers and have Omi or Shun or Kris come help me CZak, it doesn't work like that. People do have lives :/

Honestly with all the hottime events (prot scrolls, pos chaos, unique hats, epic pot scrolls, lucky day) there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get to a level where you can solo HT comfortably and PB even. Not to mention with coin shops always giving CS you can with enough work make a perfect weapon. (I have done this personally many times for many weapons) Hell sometimes Nexon gives out cubes. With enough effort, time, and research you can achieve surprisingly a lot in this game. Link skills, character cards, RA and inner abilities are also things you can do to substantially increase your damage without dishing out cash. Eventually you will hit a wall, where you need to spend some money for a shop if you want to get the that next level and solo some of the more difficult bosses. If everyone did a little thinking and put work. Finding people to empress with wouldn't be that big of an issue. (Excuse my spelling and grammar I'm typing on a phone with one hand ATM)

A good chunk of the previous posts can be summarized very simply:

You get out what you put in. Effort begets results.

The problem is that humans have a tendency for instant gratification.

Maybe I missed it but I did not see anything about Empress boxes in the update note.

Also, to all the people raging back and forth here, free empress stuff is pretty dang meak. It will not sky rocket you into a new tier of power just like that. It need scrolling and cubing to make much of a difference.

I can solo Horntail, but it's a waste of time for me, because the chances of it dropping anything worth giving a pineapple about is close to nothing.
Finding people to Empress with IS a big deal because of my timezone, because I am fairly sure the only people running at that time are hackers or people who don't even need me to solo at least v2s.

You being a in a different timezone and not being able to find people to boss with is a different issue completely. I'm trying to say that with enough patience, effort, and thinking you can accomplish a lot without spending money. If everyone took advantage of all the free stuff and events, there would be a much larger pool of people to boss with, but I understand not everyone can invest the time and patience necessary to do that.

Anyways...We're just trying to have a discussion. Don't see why this has to be seen as "raging back and forth" or get anyone upset :f6:

Not even a timeframe given... they must've messed something up pretty bad.

Or maybe something so minor it's fixed in 20 minutes.

Nah, even then they usually just extend it for an hour and then put it up "early", not give no timeframe at all.

Does anyone know what filesize the Maplestory folder should be? It patched one of my patched copies when I tried to use gamelauncher like 30 minutes ago I think, so I have a couple of 5.35mb ones and a 5.43mb one atm.

edit: I restored an old copy then had it patch through gamelauncher, and it ended up 5.35 mb.

edit: I think I figured it out. 134 is 5.43gb, 132 & 133 are 5.35gb. The reason it might have patched one of my v134s with the 134 patcher is because the 134 patch was up at the time and then taken down.

They just reposted the Manual Patcher file. Looks like it should be up very shortly.

Either that or they've patched a bug and now need to check whether the patch works, which could take a while.
