Do you expect a Masteria expansion?

Girasol Wrote:So, just out of curiosity - what did you guys not like about the KMS Crimsonwood PQ? We didn't have any plans to bring it over, but I'd like to hear specifically what you didn't like about it...and if there was anything you DID like about it. Thanks!

Because I don't know the storyline in KMS's version, I can't compare those. I do have to say that I love the original Masteria storyline though.

What I dislike about KMS's Masteria are almost all the same as what I dislike about GMS's alien revamp:
1. Map Simplicity
2. Monster Simplicity
3. Hub/Linear Map Connection

The original Masteria was amazingly creative. There were enormous hilly maps, mountainous jump quests, and dangerous cliffs that you could fall from to your death. There were hidden caves, a maze, and map intersections where you could choose your path to explore. The monsters did new and rare things; some flew, some had incredible damage, some were anchored in place. And the monsters were all placed in equally fitting maps that matched their function. Typhons were placed in maps where the player could be pushed off, and Bigfoot was placed in the maze where unsuspecting travelers would come across it.
Now, combine all of that creative game play with an epic storyline... and no wonder Masteria has so many fans!

Then, in comes KMS... To see them alter Masteria like this, to destroy every amount of originality that ever existed in it, even beyond the desecration that GMS committed with the alien revamp... it hurts to watch.

I think you should create threads asking for feedback about certain things in game, it may help the developers in GMS clear some "will they enjoy this?" kind of questions up.

Yeah. The new Masteria is all flat maps. It's very artificial and boring. Masteria was an adventure everywhere. You could wander around in the confusing Phantom Forest, where danger lurked in and around every corner. Or you could take a trip to the Krakian Jungle and hunt some Electrophants, hoping to find a Diferium Fuel Cell to take to T-1337 to make some 10-second 700 m.atk. potions. Or go kill some Gryphons to add another Jungle Lily to your collection so you could eventually have enough to upgrade that Taru weapon you've had sitting in your inventory for months. Then you can head over to the Crimsonwood Keep, traversing the dangerous Ascent and avoiding the deadly Menhirs, to go slay the Versalian Windraiders, Stormbreakers, Firebrands, and Nightshadows, obtaining their badges to exchange to the raven ninjas for valuables. As you continue your climb you encounter the Crimson Trees, stained with the blood of the long arduous battle long ago. Their wood is valuable, used as material to create powerful weapons, courtesy of the expertise of the Raven Ninja, Fiona. Ascending further, you encounter the Typhons, whose feathers are also ingredients that Fiona needs.
Honestly, there's a lot to list about the former glory of Masteria.
Girasol, if you're truly interested in this, and if you truly do have influence on what's going to happen, make sure it's done right. Make sure that all of what has already been done is restored to its pre-destruction status, and that everything that was originally planned gets finished. I am sure you will find that the Southperry community will be more than happy to assist you in dredging up the dusty old archives of all that. It's a shining example of the brilliance that made this game special, and I know this community is filled with those who are overjoyed at the possibility of this greatness breathing a new life into this game.

The Alien invasion update's impact on Masteria can be likened to a cherished park being trashed and destroyed, with a lemonade stand being put up in its place. The lemonade stand is really small and could have just been put across the street. Also the lemonade is very watery, and not even made from lemons. And you can't actually purchase a glass of lemonade, you have to purchase a one-dollar ticket to spin a wheel that may give you a glass of lemonade or something else. Oftentimes these glasses of lemonade will actually be unwaxed paper cups that contain sewer water, but that's okay! You can combine these paper cups for free to get a chance at getting a paper cup filled with river water. You can combine those river-water cups for a chance to get a cup filled with purified water, but in order to combined purified-water cups, you need to buy a one-use fusion ticket for fifty cents. Maybe if you're lucky you'll actually get a glass of lemonade.
Now do you see why we miss the old days?

Girasol, Masteria is completely responsible for me not quitting this game YEARS ago. I had so much fun with friends there. My first major accomplishment was there.

Then the Fire Nation Aliens attacked.

Along the ropes with other people's posts.. the most disheartening thing was, unlike the non-ruined NLC, the maps were very interesting to traverse and it felt like an adventure getting to the keep. All i see in KMS(and the new keep) are flat maps with mobs in them.
And the worst of all? They took our typhons and elder wraiths and made them float above the ground!

Instead of freely flying!
Just like how they ruined Aqua Road!

I am okay with them bastardizing elder wraiths.

pineapple. Elderwraiths.

They killed me so many times when trying to get to BF and HH maps... it scarred me. So now, any time I go to NLC, I GO FUCKING SLAUGHTER 99 OF THEM.

Well now they can't fly. If we had KMS CWK, it just wouldnt be the same elder wraith you killed 99 times.

Girasol ; I don't suppose there are any plans to bring back the ability to create balanced furies again is there?

Also, please stop simplifying Masteria.

As a person who never cared for Masteria since October 2007, then that wouldn't be any content for me. Though it would be a nice touch for the people who want it.

As for the KMS version though, as ironic as it is, at least we don't have to train at LHC for the next 20+ levels. I'm using the term ironic loosely because I'm getting used to (I'm still not used to) the fact that "Just because we have original content doesn't mean that the KMS version of the content will never be released." and you probably know how much I "love" those KMS version of content (be it Neo City and Sakura Castle.) which is a sarcastic statement. It would be ok not to release the KMS version of Crimsonwood Keep considering that Crimsonwood originated in GMS, but releasing the KMS content and keeping the original instead of removing it (Which shouldn't have happened to Kaede Castle,) would be a smart decision.

Man, I trained my Dragon Knight all up in NLC and Phantom Forest. I think I did 80 - 100 on Wolf Spiders, then I did 101 - 121 on Elder Wraiths.

I loved me some Elder Wraiths.

You know what I did to 130?

Bigfoot from 71-130. Was not cheap. Meso Explosion was very expensive.

I'm still hoping for the best that we get something from the ol' compiled list of Masteria.

I want to point out that it was Big Bang that killed Masteria. The "alien invasion" just buried the body.

Big Bang turned the former menaces Elderwraiths, Headless Horseman, and the dread Bigfoot into jokes, neither dangerous nor worth hunting. Wolf Spiders, Windraiders and Typhons stopped being good training, and the Warrior Throne quests stopped being a test of patience. Potential made Mark of Naricains far less attractive, and CWKPQ was sealed off for extended periods due to channel-crashing bugs (and when it was open it wouldn't accept whatever new classes needed MoNs at the time). The weapons from the badge exchange quest (as well as Fiona's upgrades to them) were superseded by various new releases. And so on and so forth.
Restoring Masteria to its former glory would involve a lot more than digging up the previous versions of certain files. It would have to be updated to be relevant again. I believe it would be worth it, but know it wouldn't be easy.

I'll just add my own thought even if it has been said before.

SaptaZapta is accurate about the Big Bang update being the real culprit. If Masteria is ever going to be brought back it must be in a state comparable to before Big Bang.

The KMS version is not bad, as far as the standard they've set with the latest updates go mind you, and some of the mini game quests are very nice.
However, the big problem with KMS updates lately is that they make everything flat, fast and easy when most of us veterans miss a MapleStory which was based more on exploring and adventuring to get the best EXP instead of being handheld, led and in essence auto lvled. Dumbed down is perhaps the best term.
It is always either that or bosses that are hard to the point of idiocy which, require you to be the correct class with staggering amounts of funding or forever be left out.

When the original NLC and Crimsonwood came it gave unprecedented levels of exploration and lore that put everything Maple had up to that point to shame. Even today nothing has come close, including the more fleshed out Black Mage story.
When you guys added the Alien invasion and took out everything except the CWK PQ you basically made a huge proclamation that you went ahead and sacrificed all that the old stood for on the altar of the new streamlined MS. I am on SaptaZaptas line that Masteria already died with BB, but it felt like a huge slap in the face that you took it out instead of restoring it to former glory. Alien Invasion could have easily been an addition instead of a final bane.

I'll admit I had some thought that it might be for the best anyway, since by taking it out at least we did not have to get constantly reminded of what could have been. Then comes the KMS version, ripping open all those badly healed cuts in our hearts. Cruel.

Finally, The iTCG system and the other crafting options we had with Masteria made the game much more interesting than the infernal coinshops we get in every single event and update these days. One of my greatest MS moments was when I worked on crafting 24 Balanced Fury throwing stars from materials I had hunted mostly by myself.

Yeah... I think that if you want to restore Masteria, you have to listen at the people, and recover what was truly original. Training off hunting a single boss that spawned in a lot of places was amazing, a boss that was unique in the way of BigFoot, that was worth the exp to hunt, interesting maps, with shortcuts, that you had to memorize to navigate (Even though an update to the map could be done, as a suggestion, with map navigations if you manage to unlock it, like markers on portals to find them faster), fun maps with slopes and pits with flying enemies, a PQ consisting on team work, even on the bosses (perfect chance to add chaos mode for them), an amazing quest line, and even maps that weren't all that useful at first sight, but led to possible future lore, or just inviting to imagination... (Yes, the grave map. I remember even afking there sometimes, and one year, the fake Headless Horseman spawned in there... The ones dropping cakes, remember? Hah, I miss those now, too).

Ah, and the mansion should have a few tweaks in there too. Recovering the original (NX RESTRICTED AT THE TIME COUGH COUGH) event questline would be the perfect addition to it.

I think that sums it up pretty well, I remember going there just to try to find a headless horseman or bigfoot AFTER big bang. Not even for the exp. It was FUN. And since there still was a quest for its head, people still hunted it sometimes, adding to the challenge. If people does something because they find it fun over exp, it's the right way COMPLETELY. Make it actually worth the exp too, and people will LOVE it.

Oh about the 5 CWK bosses that were high hp mobs in KMST, they did not make it into the live server. So red nirg is the final boss for the questline, as said by Spadow

If the KMS version of Crimsonwood is not an important part of the story, then GMS can just forgo it (just like KMS' Fantasy Theme Park). However if it is tied to something else, then I believe the KMS version can be altered like how JMS altered Evan's farm into a Leafre themed forest and changed a bit of his story.
