Disney closes LucasArts
#1
Quote:In sad news from the gaming world, Disney has announced it is closing LucasArts as a development company and instead will license titles out. Here's the official statement:

"After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we've had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles."

Disney laid off the entire staff of 150 people this morning and both of the company's current projects--Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313--have been cancelled.

I am afraid of this decision. Does Disney have no faith in the name Star Wars? As long as EA doesn't get the license. They tend to do sucky work with a license.

This is a very very bad sign. Now I fear that Disney will screw up the new Star War movies too. :/

And yes, please let anyone other than EA and SquareEnix get those licenses.

4/3/13, the end of an era

I'm guessing this was because of how disastrous Force Unleashed 2 was.

The decision makes sense to me.

This was unexpected. Very since it's Disney but oh well. :/

I don't think it was unexpected at all. After hearing all the crap about both Force Unleashed games, and I believe some other project they were working on recently, I'm not surprised that they got canned. From all accounts I've heard they haven't produced anything good in a while.

I think I'd rather have no Star Wars games than bad ones. Hopefully they don't outsource to crappy companies though, like, as mentioned, EA.

I really think that the rest of the video is unnecessary after the talking R2-D2.
