North Korea threatened specific bases in Japan and Guam

There is a reason why chinese is the most commonly spoken language on the face of the earth. We may be powerful, but they outnumber us. If we go to war, we lose. They are the big dog. Never get into a land war with china.

Bigger target. We piss them off, they zerg rush us, then we retaliate by cratering that side of the planet. They piss us off first, we retaliate by cratering that side of the planet. Either way, it ends badly for them.

I'm not particularly worried about any wars with NK. Even if they develop a working Nuke, they don't have the missile launching capabilities to hit anywhere near the US nor will they for many years to come. It would suck to be in SK when they attack and they could conceivably reach Japan, but I predict massive retaliation by the US. I'm strongly willing to be that China's dubious support of NK is contingent on them not actually launching any military strikes. Without China's support, they're obviously screwed in any straight military conflicts.

As for war with China... it could only end in a cluster pineapple for the entire world. No one wins if a full scale war breaks out between any sufficiently technologically advanced nation- at least not until space warfare where conflicts are much less messy for civilians.

Their people are sitting there starving to death in the midst of many other nations which have at least come into the 20th century, if not the 21st, and are enjoying the benefits of living in the real world.

The prime minister decides that their only course of action is to declare war on the United States. Expecting a quick and total defeat (since their standing army is tiny and equipped with bows and arrows), the country confidently expects to rebuild itself through the generous largesse that the United States bestows on all its vanquished enemies (as it did for Germany through the Marshall Plan at the end of World War II).

Either that or someone there has the same bright idea as Grand Fenwick in "The Mouse that Roared".

They might have KN-08's which are capable of hitting the west coast. They had one on display at one of their most recent military parades. It hasn't been tested though.

Actually, it's notoriously difficult to shoot down missiles mid flight for a variety of reasons. If NK ever did launch a missile at the West Coast, I wouldn't be surprised if it hit us (excepting technical difficulties).
