Nah, from the wiki we see how John's choice worked out:
"he takes the option to be killed by Typheus, which would spur Dave to go back in time and become Davesprite. "

" killing John was the best way to ensure that Alternate Future Dave went through with the self-prototyping and created the current timeline"


So John's "benefit" was the creation of the new timeline. Not necessarily directly related with stopping caliborn.

I think all denizens offer a different choice, Yaldabaoth's just the most difficult and challenging one. For instance, Echidna offered Jade the choice of escaping The Scratch, provided she takes all the planets and consorts with her.

The whole thing is just really heartwarming. Karkat actually trying to be helpful and NOT being an pimento. He's really come a long way. I'm shocked Terezi kept her healed eyes a secret for so long.
