Well good to know that at least there's some sort of explanation to it.
Although just blocking the accounts without giving any explanation immediately is kind of eh.
Still feel like this could have been handled a lot better.

If it's true that some accounts were blocked to protect them I don't see anything wrong with it. Other than no further notification to the real owners.
It's a shame that they half-assed it and didn't explain why they did it, it looses its purpose.
But you shouldn't expect anything different, not because it's Nexon, but because even one of the best companies out there does the same.
Two years ago I logged on WoW from my friends PC, next week I got banned twice for spamming/inappropriate behavior. The second time I had done nothing so I sent a ticket asking wtp was going on. Reply was "Oh, someone went into your account so we banned you" but they never sent an email telling me that was it. If it wasn't for the ticket I sent I would've never figured it out... my friend had a key logger and a goldseller was spamming through one of my characters. -_-
Even when they try to do things right they find a way to make them wrong.

Hime on Nexon forums:
Quote:To shed more light on the situation and dismiss any misinformation intended to misled other players.
There have been numerous accounts that we discovered that had suspicious logins. To ensure the accounts security, we blocked it temporarily and need those to email billingpp for further instructions. This was not an attempt to hurt our players but to make sure no further unauthorized logins happen. Thank you.
(Of course Hime locked the thread when she posted that, and banned the threadstarter from the forum.)
Assuming for a moment that isn't an outright lie to cover their incompetent/careless butts, they should have posted a notice saying this when they did it instead of leaving everyone to worry and wonder.
But seeing the lengths they are going to on their forum to lock/delete threads, redact posts and ban people (from the forum) who complain about being unfairly banned (from the game), and the long delay before giving any explanation, I'm inclined to believe it is a lie.
Either way, this sort of thing just shows what kind of people are running Nexon.

They are lying for sure. Good job Nexon, at least everyone can readily see how shady Asiasoft is while people who spend a lot at GMS might get banned for completely random reasons.

Of course it's a lie.
When there's a suspicious login to your account, it is not billingpp banned. Rather, it becomes "unverified" and you must use your email to re-verify it.
Inviting hundreds of players to spam billingpp with hysterical emails is so totally against Nexon's usual style, that it's ridiculous to expect us to believe they did that. The verification process is completely automated. billingpp emails are all read by human beings (it deals with actual money, after all). Which does Nexon prefer?
But of course it's easier to say "we're protecting you from account hackers" than "we done goofed". Not like you can prove nobody tried to infiltrate your account.
Ah well, at least item guards only cost meso now.

Ugh.
I really hope we get compensated in some way, but that's probably not going to happen considering this is Nexon we're talking about.

It possibly makes sense considering there's been a guy going around pretending to be a GM and leaving messages in my shop saying I should go to so-and-so website for free Maplepoints. I doubt everyone's falling for it but maybe some people are...?

The whole situation screams "lying" though, especially since everyone who I've seen who got banned was online and was d/c'd when it happened. So it seems that you had to be online when the bans happened.
I know for a fact that I've never given away my password, and I doubt my computer has a keylogger since I've been routinely scanning it.
I also know for a fact that none of my characters have ended up in weird locations where I don't remember them being in since I've been getting the daily sengoku coins on all of my characters on my account.
So I honestly doubt that my account has been actually compromised at all, and this definitely seems to be a cover-up of a mistake they made. :/

Nah that scam has been around for a very long time, like 2008, maybe earlier. They probably had some problem with their bank or something and being safer than sorry.

Never got a reply from billingpp but it seems that I'm unblocked now?
Oh well, that's good enough for me.

Edit: Snip. I'm an idiot.
Apparently I've never tried to log in with torrents running before, it was just throwing a fit over that.

Weird, I've always been torrenting with utorrent when running MS.
