Depends on how, I can think of multiple situations, ones where I would fear dying, and ones where I would not.

If I were to get into a car crash, or about to, yes, the first thing that comes to my mind would be 'I don't want to die!'.

If I was an old person, around my 60's, 70's, 80's, or more, dying is something I have to accept, I wouldn't fear it, to be honest. Dying of old-age is natural, and I would realized by then that I have lived very wonderful years, with my family, etc. I'll accept it and move on.

3rd situation, this is where it gets tricky, and others might think differently than I do. If my girlfriend happened to be walking with me in the streets, and she had a her purse on her. Some robber/thief/criminal jumps out, lashes out at her, and grabs her purse, then aims a handgun at her. I have two options, try to:

a) Break the guy's arm
b) If I was too far-distanced from him, I'll gladly USE myself as a shield to protect my girlfriend. With no regrets.

In this scenario, I would not fear death at all, because even if I died, I died for a greater purpose, and that's to protect someone that I love. Hope that answers your questions.

That's just silly because then he'll just shoot your girlfriend after you're lying there in your own blood. Hurt

Most people aren't afraid of dying, just afraid of not achieving everything they want to this in this world, or to leave a bad (or even good?) impression of themselves to others, especially friends and family. Moreover, they want to leave an impression of themselves, whether it is good or bad, to make themselves unique and let others know of their existence. On the contrary, there are others who just want to live a normal life and leave this world unnoticed.

Yes, I am afraid of dying.

Someone who used to work at my store died a few days ago... she was only 37. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I do not know the specific details of how long she had the cancer or whatnot, but I know that my boss visited her in the hospital about a week and a half ago; she was fully aware, in a good mood, and it seemed on the outside that there was nothing wrong with her. The cancer spread. A few days later, she was blind, deaf, and seemingly unaware of her surroundings.

She left behind two children, 11 and 13, and before she died (before she was diagnosed with cancer) she had lost her job, and the family had to give up their house. How horrible is that?

So yes, I'm afraid of dying. Although it is inevitable, I have no idea where, when, or how it will happen. I do not know if I will die peacefully in my sleep, or if I will die violently, or slowly, or painfully. I do not know how my family and friends will cope with it. I do not know if there is life after death, or if you just become unconscious and never wake up.

There are certain things that can rig the situation in your favor. Maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising, eating right, and do not take needless risks on the streets and highways. Pick a good doctor and do a physical every 3 months. Try to minimize the stress in your life if that is possible. For yourself, do things that make you happy and fulfilled. This all might sound hedonistic an selfish, but doing things for OTHER people is much easier if you're happy after having been taken care of yourself.

I'm not afraid of dying as much as I am how and when I die. I dream of dying old in my bed with a smile on my face, like the old lady in Titanic.

I'm deathly afraid of getting stabbed while walking to the store (especially now, since my itty bitty town has a Texas Chainsaw Massacre wannabe.)

Depends on how and when you ask me.

I'm not afraid of dying because I know it's going to happen at some point. I've died once technically on the operating table during a routine surgery. I came out of that with a whole new outlook on life. As long as I can live my life the it's fullest potential and give my children the satisfaction of a wonderful life, I will be happy when I die whenever that may happen.

Why would I be scared of dying?

Yeah, I wont see/talk to anyone I know anymore, but who knows what's there for us when we die?

Who's the say we go to a 'heaven', maybe we live in our mind?

The only thing I'm scared of is that my family/friends would be too upset with me gone, but I supposed people will get over it?

Everyone here are obviously afraid of death in some way although that they deny it, because if they aren't afraid, they would have committed sucide.

I sometimes wish for death when I'm so depressed, but I did not do it because I fear it. But usually I don't think about death and so I don't freak out by it.

I won't be worrying about death while living, but when I die I can't worry about death haha.

Knowing and being afraid of dying makes me want to live my life to it's fullest.

Not at all. I embrace the fact that I won't have to live forever, and knowing that one day I will die ensures that I try to, in some way, make what I do in life meaningful. Not just for me, but the people I love, and care about.

I suppose I fear death as much as any other person. Sure, the pain would be one factor but the idea of not being able to do the things I want to be, I want to see, and so many other things scares me more.

Another thing I'd like to add. I was watching TV or something and a quote I remembered was something like
-Why do people have to die?
-..It makes them important
I always thought about that and expanded a little bit on it. Life is important but death is what makes it important. Death gives us a reason to get out of bed, to work, to have fun, all the things we do every day. Just a thought I guess.
