Oh those are their names, haha. I really just guessed because they're sort of different in KMS (Claudine being Sigmund, lol).

If the resistance has gone rogue, I want to be able to kill the future version of my Wild Hunter! That prick's had it coming!

Like how in present day Edelstein, they say all this la-di-da crap in public but when you're in the Resistance base, their quotes change drastically.

The Heroes just kind of bonded together to take down the Black Magician the first time, a calling all heroes type of deal, they didn't really form a group full of people (Like Cygnus and Resistance because remember storyline wise there is only 1 of each Hero, but there are hoards of Cygnus Knights and Resistance), Novans are just kind of here to help because they need help in return and storyline wise they are also limited to 1 per each Novan we have so far, and Explorers are just kind of going with the flow and only fighting the Black Magician because evil is bad and it needs to die, Explorers and Novans are the only ones that don't really have a beef with the Black Magician.

Kyrin is out for blood, though, her dad's disappearance is directly related to the Black Mage, and the in-game reason for the appearance of pirates is that she's formed a group specifically to track and battle the Black Mage. Athena has also been invested in the battle against the Black Mage since the story shifted focus to him with the release of Pirates, and then Aran, showing her as being present, though just a child/really young, at the time of the battle and personally knowing many of the heroes.

I'll give you Kyrin, but I disagree with you on Athena.

If I recall correctly, one of the job advancement quest has her reveal that she started to fight against the Black mage after he killed her father and she almost became evil because of it.

I'm a little bit mad. They teased Boulder Mountain (Past Perion) and Mushroom Hill (Past Henesys) when Ellin Forest came out like 5 years ago, but instead they go and make future versions.

And Nexon has never been consistent. There are so many unfinished elements in game, yett they go and unfinish those that were supposedly finished already like Future Henesys. At this point expecting them to ever finishing them is just foolish.

They aren't doing anything to future!Hene, they're expanding future!Victoria which was definitely hinted at if you actually did the quests and found out that 6 way path was blocked off, isolating Henesys.

But why?

What's the point? Everyone knows it was an illusion created by Arkarium to create distrust towards Cygnus and scare her away from the World Tree.

Honestly, I'm more surprised the area got an update last year in the first place. I kind of figured it was one of those areas implemented so long ago that the staff forgot about it, like Korean Folk Town.

One explanation could be that Arkyum had originally intended on doing this from the beginning and made both areas, but ended up sealing away this one for some reason. Maybe there's something in there that he decided that he didn't want the Alliance to see.

Athena has two storylines - one from Ellin Forest/Aran and one in the Mercedes storyline. At first, she was a fairy from Ossyria who, at the time of the Black Mage's attacks, helped people evacuate to Victoria, then helped establish the Altaire Camp.

In the Mercedes storyline, she is an elf who was quite close to Mercedes, and was a child at the time of the Black Mage. I don't remember anything explaining why she never got frozen along with Elluel, nor why she founded Henesys, in the Mercedes storyline.

Athena Pierce is probably one of the most retconned characters in the game.

Just noticed this post. Unless it was retconned recently, it was the Crimson Balrog who killed her father and caused her to go nuts. Of course, this was back when Crimson Balrog was important to the world of Maple Story. Nowadays he can go a full year without spawning and nobody notices.

I think in some quest or another in JMS, they have an instanced version of her new sprite, and after the quest she transforms into the old version (Might have that reversed). Not sure why they didn't just change all her NPCs with the new version.

She went out for errands when Eurel is getting frozen, ended up helping people evacuate for apparent no reason.

I know she tried to get back in Eurel but it got sealed by Mercedes, so she roam around Victoria Island and somehow founded Henesys.

didn't mercedes give athena some artifact or something and she wasn't in elluel to be frozen with the rest of the elves?

Soo....I just saw this. Didn't see this in Southperry yet.
