From what I can imagine, Von Bon should be a mage's worst nightmare. Vellum's no more than a walk in the park as far as surviving in concerned.

How so? The only things that 1hko them 1hko everyone else. The only thing you'd have to worry about most is when he starts slamming the floor lol.

The most reliable way to avoid Von Bon's 1HKO is to jump, and mages don't have any natural boosts for their Jump%. Besides, Von Bon being the hardest isn't so much due to him being hard, but more so due to the rest being trivially easy.

I think he was speaking ironically in that those might be his only means of inflicting damage on Vellum when Vellum has such high defense, heheh;;

Did they change how Ignore Def works?
Is it that everything is added together, then you ignore x% from the bosses total?
Or is it each of your Ignore Defences, takes out x% at a time?

I still haven't managed to spot Von Bon's cues, like I can tell he's using an attack but not which one (there are 2 that near-1hko me - the big blue blob he fires around 13k which I can generally jump over and some mystery one that does 17k or so, I've just seen the damage come up sometimes) I find Pierre and Vellum pretty easy to get around since they do more distinctive area-based stuff (Vellum's attacks all hilight the floor well in advance)

The one where he jumps and hits the ground at 70% HP or so and the energy ball are 1hitkos/hit hard in hard/normal mode.

Right, I'll agree about the jumping for mages part which is why I was saying the only thing scary was when he gets ready to slam the floor.
I'm not sure about the "rest being trivally easy" though, chaos pierre is semi tough with 2 of them chasing after you but you do have some luxury time more so then Von Bon I guess. The Queen while I never managed to get into chaos for that version the videos made it seem tough enough? Vellum, no matter how I look at it, you have the easiest time dodging.

If Von Bon is the timer one then yes that one sucks hard too. Actually thinking about it I dont think I survived one of his attacks. man all this just sucks. And I though I was doing well with my 7.6k hp.
As for Vellum I always seem to have teleport lag when I need to hold it down for a moment before I actually use the skill. That and I havent played my mage in a while may be the reason.

Ducking is more reliable than jumping to avoid that attack. :p
Von Bon and Pierre are extremely easy for me. The Queen is hard because I haven't done many runs against her and haven't memorized her attacks yet. Vellum would be really easy if all his attacks (especially the fireball and green mist) didn't cause massive lag.

For some reason I don't feel like Von Bon's little energy ball is actually a ohko, it seems more like it takes off around 95% of my hp. I kept dying right after his attack but I realized it was because I wasn't at full health. The attack takes off a certain amount for me based on my current total hp, which explained my deaths. After I switched to using power elixers instead of ginger ales I was at 100% hp all the time and that attack of his stopped ohkoing me. I rarely jump over that attack of his now, I just take it and keep attacking. I play a lumi.
I did start dying again after my friend hyper bodied me, but that was because Von Bon's energy orb started hitting me for 11ks instead of 7ks and I just didn't notice the HB in time to pot back up to max, heheh.

not the greatest idea to duck it on hard though.
queen seems easy enough, only thing is that you need to be able to know where she is/where she's looking when you're blinded, otherwise you're gonna get OHKO'd by breath.

Doesn't seem that way to me, hard mode has tons of exploding pink hearts, her claw attack can DoT kill you or something (bad on melees), her breath sucking mouth instant KOs you and draws you in. Her most cheapest skill is that stupid vortex in her mouth thing, don't even know how you're supposed to dodge that, even a DS couldn't out glide that lol.
Ducking on Von bon only works for the flying white orb, which is actually around 50% of all the attacks he ever uses most of the time. Its like all his skills have a cooldown, save for staff whack, and can only be used after at least 1 staff whack or another skill has been used.

I believe it's been said stuff like kaiser's link skill and other forms of boosting your HP like that will tell the game you're at like "105% hp" and then the game will only take off 100% of your total hp, allowing you to live.
As far as lag from pierre fire, vellum fire, poison, etc that sounds like common graphics card problems. I've had/have other computers with not so good cards and anything with fire/poison/mist will lag the computer up, especially mist effects. Only way I know how to fix it is to either get a better card or mod the game to disable said effects (or have nexon allow an option that would remove said effects but don't hold your breath).

I don't even use any of that on my DB and survive every attack from all normal abyss bosses save for breath attack from Queen, mirror (although I was never killed by it yet), red mode exploding pierre slams, and vellum's fire breath attack. What shinku said about you needing a standard amount of hp beforehand seems relevant here (about 10k+ iirc), since I don't even bother sticking the kaiser link on my DB right now. All of those attacks kill my 21k hp phantom anyways even though I did stick kaiser link on him.

Which can help be avoided if you have your sound on...as I found out recently from a chaos run...what a pain, though.
I think we were in here around half an hour, right, ShinkuDragon; ?

I have 7485 hp without any hp buffs (which is usually how I Root Abyss) and I do have a random +3% all stat on one of my rings. I don't have the Kaiser's Link skill. But is there any reason Von Bon's "ohko" is different from, say, the Queen's? Her breath kills me just fine. Perhaps Shinku is right about needing a certain amount of hp before you're safe from ohkos.

Aren't these 1hko's not really 1hko's, agreed Queens kills everyone when hit with it, but the 1hko from von bon isn't a ohko for any of my characters regardless of the hp they have, it's more % based and if you don't have "x" hp when you are hit by said move, then you will die, but in the case you do have enough hp, I find you are left with around 5% if not less of the total hp your character has. Pierre though, I have been trying to figure the red hats 1hko out ever since I saw Limgoon's vid of the defeat of it, since he seems to survive the 1hko that others die instantly of.

Von Bon's energy ball does high damage, but doesn't ohko... and that's it. Chaos Von Bon's energy ball does 1hitko.
