Nope. KoC just became meaningless. Again.
But cygnus themselves are also getting raised to the 250 cap 0.0

Oh, they are?
I stand corrected then. Let 'em run wild!
I do hope they release a pomegranateton of new areas for those high levels though. Simply raising monsters' levels isn't enough.
I'm really curious as to what the 10th anniversary is going to bring.

Well this is going to sell a lot of 2x cards huh. I wonder if there's going to be SSS Character cards if you reach 250.

Ask the old school and you will know 3rd/4th job didn't exist back then. MrYandao was training at coolie zombie at 11x when those stuff were still lv45.
Anyway I believe 5th job must have been planned way before this announcement. At the very least, the making of tempest, not announce, 5th job had already been planned together with it.
Even if not all job have a fair race towards 250, it is not as though it is only happening now. Msea first lv200 is an assassin. DS kaiser Luminous etc etc never had a chance to compete too.

I'm referring to how it is silly to add the new cap first before anything else and I've been playing for something like seven years now. Also, all classes available at that time got their 3rd jobs simultaneously but the later trends have revamped classes separately so I would hope they have the sense to add all of the skills at once.

If true...
How about they do it the other way round?
First give us the high level content. Show us new areas with new mobs we can barely hit. Give us bosses that we can't kill, and not just because they have 9000 different ways to 1hko (oh, and block hacks while you're at it). Give us fifth job that goes 170-200, so we can taste the new skills and they can balance them (lol).
Then you can raise the max level.
Doing this thing piecemeal, giving some jobs their fifth advancement long before other jobs get it, gives them an unfair advantage in the race to 250.
And yeah, I do hope they keep a copy of the old Rankings (and oh yeah, they do need to fix them first...). Those people who made 200 back when it was a real challenge, don't deserve to have their achievement totally wiped out.
Absolutely all of this.
I'm really struggling to see how many of you claim this will solve the game's rampant "power creep" issues. Please. It's not and hasn't been an issue of "power creep" for the last 3 years, but a "power overload." How many of you can OHKO anything that moves in the game that's a non-boss monster? Even major bosses are getting OHKO'd now by the best funded characters in KMS. Doesn't that seem like an issue to you? And if so, how is giving players more levels and power going to solve that?
IIRC Spadow mentioned a change to mobs, like a 25% increase in level/HP/etc. all-around. What does that solve? All it does is make them even meatier EXP meatsacks to parallel the level change. It doesn't make the game more balanced, or much less, fun.
This game has and always will have an enormous host of balance issues thanks to Nexon not addressing the main concerns of power, mostly class skill imbalance issues (especially between newer v. older classes) and the incredibly out-of-control potential system.
All Nexon is doing with this change is buying more time and creating more meatsacks so you keep doing the same thing you've always been doing. Months later, when everyone is at 250 and all their Lv. 160 gear is upgraded to the max and whatnot, the game is going to play THE EXACT SAME as it does now. You're going to kill everything in one hit, nothing will be a challenge, and you'll be clamoring for more updates and higher damage caps because golly gee your 5th Job skills can do so much more than the 99m they're hitting now!
So all this does in the end is piss off a lot of people who worked hard back in the day to reach Lv. 200 when they did. Honestly though, everyone who has said "this is an MMO, it's what happens" is right, a level cap was bound to happen soon, but to underscore my contentions and to further echo Sapta's, it's a pointless change if not brought about strategically in tandem with other necessary game updates. But as we've seen from Spadow's recent screenshot, and from Nexon's track record over the last 10 years, that's most certainly not the case.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go screenshot my rankings for posterity's sake.

I actually really want this. I'll jump on the same bandwagon and say 5th job around 170~180. Now to decide to level my Luminous or Evan first hmm..

In regards to the 2.2b exp requirement for level 201, they could be adopting dragon nest's exp system. Whenever you hit a milestone level, the exp curve jumps extremely high then it goes back to a regular curve until the next milestone.
For example, TNL exp values: 100, 105, 112, 120, 500, 520, 550, etc
And the dungeons would proportion the exp so that the %/dungeon/quests was still the same in the new areas. Or (correct me if i'm wrong) they could keep the same exp values for some levels.
For example, TNL exp values: 2.2, 2.2, 2.2, 2.2, then after a while it starts the curve. If I'm not mistaken level 70-81 does this and has the exact same exp TNL for that level range.

Mhmm. Only time will tell will we know for sure what Nexon plans to do with the increased level cap.
And I'm calling it right now... Nexon will force a requirement of that you must be at 250 in order to battle the Black Mage. And it's gonna come this year.

The problem I can see is aren't they rushing this a little? I mean they barely started the Cygnus revamp and suddenly they are making a huge change like this. I really don't know if this will end well. If they are just increasing mobs hp/level it is just like Big Bang again. What seems like a helpful change is pointless.
I also have to agree with FrozNlite about potential. It has done nothing but throw balance out the window ever since they came up with it. All this is doing is giving less funded players a small chance at post unlimited bosses.
However I imagine a few months down the road they will just release another funded only boss or revamp bosses yet again.

Well there is good enough reason to believe 5th job will be available to all existing job together due to
1)5th job was decided quite a while back.
2)The silly part about allowing players to level beyond 200 without introduction of 5th job.
The only thing to be slightly annoyed is nexon intended for 5th job but only going to increase the lv cap in the near future. Guess nexon really wanted to keep this as a surprise and save it for their 10th anniversary.

I couldn't agree more. If it wasn't already blatantly obvious when old bosses were heavily buffed during the Unlimited patch (But then redeemed itself slightly with Root Abyss), this game is essentially become something of a race to the top with whatever resources you can get which adds only temporary satisfaction as you'd then want more and more. It's kind of like what would happen if Mount Everest got significantly higher each year and you repeat the process of climbing it except it hasn't become more or less difficult* for you, it's just higher.
Disclaimer: Obviously, Maple is a lot more static than a mountain. Don't read that analogy literally.

They better not add 5th job. I'm already devastated by the fact that they're even THINKING about raising the level cap...

I bet that if MapleStory worked more like Guild Wars 2, where you could do pretty much anything to gain significant EXP (including going back and doing lower-leveled quests and being scaled back to be able to do so without just overpowering everything), a lot less people would be pissed.

Most definitely. I don't like these kinds of changes because they basically make something already hard to do without boring yourself half-dead even harder to do and people who can get level 200 in days should not be taken as the benchmark for proposing game changes anyway.
