Jailbreaking an iPod Touch
#1
I think I'm gonna get a 1st gen one, after my Video got stolen. <_< That is if I can't find it. Still, I have one question.

Jailbreaking your iTouch: What does it do? What does it enable? :|

Yep. My friend has a jailbroken iPod Touch and it's a lot of fun to play with on long trips or just at home.

Jailbreaking allows you to install applications not limited to the ones available from Apple, they're not necessarily all free. These applications are not restricted by Apple's requirements. So once you jailbreak it you have applications ranging from Theme apps to Adult Entertainment apps. There are also tweaks you can install to modify the iPod Touch's firmware. Be aware though, jailbreaking makes restoreing the Touch from iTunes a pain. Also none of the applications are tested by Apple, so there is a chance that they might cause your Touch to run sluggish.

The generation two iTouches have microphone support, thus giving it the potential of running VOIP applications. Currently you can only use Skype on the iPhone or iTouch. It works fine and requires a Wi-Fi connection.

Thanks, that clears a lot of stuff up. I still have a few questions though. Is synchronization of music (or just media in general) affected in any way? And what do you mean by "restoring" the iPod? Restoring to factory settings?

I don't think the stuff you have on your iPod is affected in any way. Actually, my friend jailbroke his iPod twice and I doubt anything happened to his music.
