Unscheduled Server Maintenance - December 17, 2012

"We will give you an update shortly on the expected end time for this unscheduled maintenance."

So I went to bed last night 3 hours into the patch. Now almost 18 hours later, I still haven't had a chance to play Kaiser or test out my Hypers. Gonna cross my fingers that they get their act together before bed time (which is sometime within the next 6 hours).

Personally I prefer it when they don't pretend to know how long they'll be taking.
If they say "back in two hours", I check back in two hous to see "one more hour, guys", and then "just one more, sorry" after that, and so on.
This way I can at least check back thinking "are they done yet?" instead of "gog dammit they said they'd be done".

Whenever I see any of these notices I just look for something else to do. I've worked in situations with national network outages and few things piss off the customers more than you checking the network updates, seeing that it's scheduled to be finished in X timeframe, informing the customer as such and getting screamed at the next day by customers because the issue was clearly not solved within the timeframe given by the 'trustworthy' consultants.

Well something like this hasn't happened in a while. When was the last time we have such a ridiculously long USC after a patch? The last one I can remember is the Leafre patch. Though I supposed the 154 USCs we had during 2010 Christmas counts.

Screw this, I need to rest my eyes. I've been up since 6 AM so hopefully I can look forward to a non-server maintanenced day.

I hope for the best of Maple the next day.
