Lets look at it this way; if he's crying over kids he doesn't even know, what would happen if terrorists kidnapped HIS children? Would he do the right thing, or would he give in to their demands? If he isn't desensitized to this sort of thing he has been living a sheltered life, and a person that has been living with blinders on all of his life isn't fit to lead either, as that person would be completely out of touch with reality.

That, or he's faking it, which is a much simpler and more logical explanation.

I for one don't really give a crap if he's faking it.


My sympathies go out to all the families involved. I know that sounds generic, but its really all I can say for something like this.

Well, sure, I'm not a heartless monster, I feel really bad for the parents of those killed and even the surviving kids that actually saw the shooting occur. A lot of them in other rooms were told by the teachers it was pots banging together in the hallway or something, and to just hide until it was over; I'm sure they didn't buy that completely, but at least they don't understand how bad it actually was like the ones inside the room.

For the record, I find the fact that the president even commented on it to be a political statement, so my reply is, "he started it".

I could only stare at some of the replies. I agree that the issue with mental illness needs to be addressed but as someone also pointed out you need to be careful with how you do this because certainly not everyone with a mental illness is going to shoot down an elementary school and some people without a mental illness may do so anyway. And then there's how you would present the issue...sadly, there's still a stigma attached to being labelled mentally ill that makes people want to avoid it at all costs when the truth is that most people with such a diagnosis would still be able to lead normal and productive lives if only they're treated appropriately.

EDIT: And several hours after posting this I realized that I forgot to ask if Ryan had always demonstrated such destructive behaviour.

And if he didn't say anything, you'd be pissing over him for NOT commenting on it..Obama seriously can't win with you.

Regardless of whether Obama comments or not, tears up or not, reads from notes or not, his critics will view it as a sign of incompetence. And his supporters will view it as just the right thing to do. That's politics.

Now can we please drop this discussion? Almost makes me miss the gun-control rehashes.

The right to bear arms is enshrined in the US constitution and to depart from the document of the founding fathers would be nothing short of terrorism on the part of the president.

I'm going to chime in here for a few reasons...

The media keeps saying "He has aspergers! That's why he did it!!!". That is the biggest bunch of bs I've ever heard. I have an 11 yr old with Aspergers. He knows that shooting people is wrong. He knows that violence isn't ok. He also loves playing war video games (ie Call of Duty, etc) and knows that those are fake games. The issue with the shooter comes down to the fact that he probably wasn't getting the help he needed. People need to stop saying (esp. the newscasters who don't know pomegranate) that this is the cause of what happened. These kids need the mental health help and obviously this kid slipped through the cracks some how and some where.

I also have an issue with the gun talk. I believe that if the teachers/staff had a carrying license, maybe they would of been able to stop this kid sooner. Of course I believe in gun safety and all the other issues on the table, I just think that if more people learned how to properly protect themselves along with carrying for the right reasons, maybe a lot less lives would of been taken. The right person with the right gun can save lives. People just want to blame it on guns, when in fact, people kill people. Not guns.

Person A can expedite the death of Person B through the use of poison, arson, stabbing, drowning, ect. However, giving Person A an assault weapon makes it significantly easier and faster to not only take down Person B, but also Person C, D, and E. Yes there is the basic identification that guns are objects and people are the ones who use such devices for questionable means. This is unarguable. But given the fact that you can't monitor and address every human being to not go emotionally crazy, it doesn't hurt to limit and or totally restrict their access to a weapon that has the potential of massive violence and murder. Guns aren't restricted because as a society we blame them for senseless killings. Guns are restricted because even the most dependable people can always have rare moments of complete emotional fall out and putting them in proximity of an offensive weapon is an unnecessary risk when you weigh the pros and cons. Civilians don't need guns for civilian life unless they live in some slum side with dealers, slingers, fiends, and robbers who are packing arms. For most cases aside from high crime areas, a firearm is not needed to protect one's own well being.
