Would someone kindly link me to the thread(s) about hacked game master items? I was off in another world when that happened apparently.

This means that the actual exploiters and any1 who can read english enough to understand the notice could get out of this unbanned and even make some profit. Only cause Nexon decided to warn them beforehand. Funny enough, couple people in Khaini were smega'ing about how they bought their Tyrant Capes in the FM and they didn't wanna get banned for buying something that was obviously duped.

Well, maybe those people had no knowledge of what's happening. Either way, it's going to be removed until Kaiser's release.

I find that excuse for people really thin and without substantial back up. Even if you logged in later in the incident, you'd see a bunch of smegas that said "lolhacked items". Then, in order to even buy these things you'd need to have max mesos or more, which is pretty hard to come by without having invested significant time and money into this game (i.e. gone out to buy NX to merchant) People who go out and buy NX (and have the patience to make the mesos) generally have a good understanding of this game if they want to make that much money. Option two being illegal meso sites which, if you peruse, will basically tell you that the damned items are hacked anyway. Third, if you've just started this game, you wouldn't have the mesos to buy it. Period. And if you are new to this game and somehow have gotten max mesos to buy the item, then you should have, at some point, google'd a skill build for the character, which will likely bring you to either Basil or here, which, if you explore the forum further (as any good person would to know the game better), you would also find that the equipment is hacked. There is in no way there is someone who has played Maple for any significant amount of time without having once looked up something on Basil or Southperry. Even then you have a guild or at least one friend online to tell you the items are hacked. You can't have played an MMO without interacting with people. that completely defeats the purpose of the game :/ The only legitimate reason to have no knowledge of these equipment (so far as I know) is if you played maple like 3 years ago, made max mesos back then, lived in a non-maplestory based hole for the past few years, and got back like maybe 24 hours ago. Even then, logically, before you make any purchase of an item that goes at max mesos or higher price, you'd at least investigate the item. I mean really, who goes to a car dealer ship and buys the first car that they see? TL;DR People who bought the items have really no excuse for having bought them. If the deal is too good to be true, it generally is. "OMG so many stats for less than 500mil??!! What a steal!" <<- stupid person mindset considering anything that has that many stats on it would definitely go for more than Max mesos anyway.

I think a lot of the people in this thread are giving the average mapler way too much credit when it comes to knowledge of the game and the market. We see things differently because we're posting on a website dedicated to maplestory discussion but a lot of maplers don't have that kind of motivation. They'll see an item smegad and think "OMG he's selling that for only 25k NX? brb CVS" they have no way of finding out where these capes actually come from and if someone tells them they come from gachapon or some bullshit like that, they'll believe them.

Well not everyone knows about the upcoming patch updates since not everyone reads ahead. There's even a notice saying don't buy the generated items but that only appeared on yesterday starting in the afternoon so whoever bought it before hand that was clueless could have fell into what you said.

Yeah, after a certain point it became obvious as to the origin of the capes, but on friday/saturday the exploit wasn't public yet and the exploiters were selling for $150 apiece.

Anyone who's willing to spend $150 bucks on gear and not question its origin either knows what they're doing or is spoiled rotten. Once they dropped, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is," applies.
It's really not that hard. @below: Care to elaborate instead of being all cryptic?

And the sh'tstorm has hit the fan again. Note to Nexon: if you can't handle exploited item creation/manipulation properly, don't handle it at all. Just let it sit in the game because you sure as hell suck ass at preventing/controlling it.

What I'm really trying to say is that stupid little notices, and item deletion without anything other than slaps on the hand as punishment does nothing in the long run. I'm sure a similar exploit(s) will come and continue to come as long as Nexon can't really do anything as a company to counter said problem other than to delete the items, hence constant 'shitstorms'. They gotta try to prevent the cancer from occurring in the first place instead of putting band-aids on it, which do nothing to stop it.

Uh, what? They didn't just slap band-aids on it this time. They chain-banned whoever did the exploit and fixed the exploit in question. They'll be deleting the items soon. What are you going on about? Pretty sure all the bases are covered, dude.

Bah, if they act this quick and actually manage to band and delete adequately, there is not really anything more one could ask. Being preemptive would be better but, that is not going to happen.

After the mass deletion of all kinds of duped gear these things show up out of the blue, first going for max, then closer to 500m within a day. I can see how a very small percent of purchases could have been made by ignorant people just trying to upgrade their gear, but honestly the odds are not in their favor that they had no knowledge of what they were getting into. If people are willing to go drop $100~ on gear just to upgrade, they really should take the time to figure out its origins because it should be clear to everyone by now that Nexon is taking the time to remove hacked items. At some point, ignorance shouldn't fly.

However, just recently, with Nexon stepping up on the deletion and bannings... honestly, there's no excuse to be that stupid.
