Since Nexon Korea doesn't seem to want to develop Bosses that require any real strategy out of attacking whenever you can I'm interested to see how they're going to address the issue. They're going to be hard-pressed to make content tougher/higher than Magnus at the moment without some serious tweaking/upgrading to actually make it possible.

Do I have to pay for a special permit to participate in events? How many training areas require that I pay to use? Do I need to cube all my equips to legendary to train effectively?

The only content I would say you really need to throw your money is are the new bosses.

What can you honestly say Angelic Burster has redefined about the game? Pretty much just bosses, no? Saying that this single class has redefined everything about the game is a bit of an overexaggeration, isn't it?

Besides that, the fact the super funded Angelic Burster was able to solo Hard Mode Magnus in 14 out of 30 minutes, and with the nerfs, probably impossible to solo now, doesn't mean it's the only class that can kill it. Yes, it killed Magnus, but that doesn't mean that the only way to kill Magnus is to throw all your money at an Angelic Burster, it just happens to be the easiest way.

Bosses are a HUGE portion of the game. Outside of that, what really is there to do? Grind? FANTASTIC GAME!

Even if you want to throw bosses out of the equation, AB redefines all the rules of the game, and ONLY for her. Before when there were mass design changes to how to play a character and what your limits were, it was a change to EVERYONE. Not for AB. AB gets her own set of rules that ignore all the old ones, and they're all in her favor. Meanwhile, no one else gets these changes.

When Nexon wants to develop the game to the point where Bosses are the only way to get the top tier gear, we have EVERY SINGLE RIGHT to complain when they make the Bosses impossible to complete without NX-whoring out. First it was Empress gear, now it's Tyrant gear. Both of them require you to be a massive NX-whore to obtain. Earlier I said "even if you want to throw bosses out of the equation," but honestly you cannot. They release new gear and fancy new stuff that makes your old stuff a joke, but then they make it IMPOSSIBLE to obtain such stuff without spending thousands. At what point is that good design? It's not. Never will be.

Then, to top even that off, you cannot even use your old characters to do it this time! You HAVE to make this new class because it's completely broken when you compare them to everyone else. Why did I play for 8 years when they release AB and invalidate EVERYTHING I've EVER done in MapleStory?

Too late. People bitched when PB required a brain and people bitched when Empress required one as well.
Granted it doesn't really matter, because Hackers make everything easier for everyone.

What exactly are these rules she's changing that you keep talking about? Bypassing the damage cap? She as a grand total of what, 5? skills that break cap. How does that redefine all the rules of the game? How does having a high damage cap change how you play? Outside of bossing, it doesn't really matter how high you can hit.

That's her schtick, of course no one else gets the same advantages, she breaks the damage cap and she has that whole soul recharge system, so what? Beyond that, she's just another class with the same old crap that every class seems to have now.

What is the problem with top tier gear being almost unobtainable? Since when was top tier gear something that everyone should have and not a goal you aspire to? Yes, I agree that it shouldn't be something that you need to spend thousands of dollars to upgrade your gear to do, but it also shouldn't be something that a ragtag group of misfits that just started playing should be able to do off the bat.

I have never, ever considered the new classes that come out to invalidate my prior classes. I had lots of fun playing them, doing bosses with friends, questing, training, whatever. The new classes don't instantly erase all my past achievements, and, no offense, but it's stupid to think they do. A new super OP class being released doesn't change the fact that I did spend that time, and I spent it having fun, doing what I wanted to.

I forgot that a clean brand new class invalidated being one of the first to solo bigfoot at 120, or invalidated my equipment i got from events years ago that you can't get anymore, or invalidates my character that i got max dilligence/willpower on, or invalidates my being in one of the strongest guilds in my server...

Angelic buster invalidates nothing. Stop over reacting over bulls'hit.

Hey Waldorf, I think these Maple guys are playing the wrong game.
I disagree. They're definitely playing the right game.
How so?

5 skills. How many attacking skills do you use on the typical class? 2? 3? Maybe 4? She breaks damage cap on every attack she uses against bosses.

She breaks the hits per second on essentially DoT skills, where there's so many numbers you can't possibly see anything behind them, not even a single pixel.

In a damage game, that's all that matters. Those are the rules. What else is different in this game between characters? Your damage and how you do it. She does everything better in every way, and to top it off there's absolutely no way anyone else can follow behind her because those numbers were only changed for her. Because, as discussed a hundred times before, there's no depth to the battle system other than this. When that's all there is, making a character that throws all of it away is idiotic.

But I know that once she gets released in GMS, and everyone's hitting those caps left and right, there will be constant complaints about this very topic. It's not the first time a similar situation has happened.

I'm done with this argument anyway. It has been gone over a hundred times already and I'm just bored with it. Feel free to call me whatever you want, it doesn't change the truth.

Her two Affinities lost their damage bonus, Soul Seeker is destroyed. Also, Trinitiy's stacking bonus has been halved.

First. The class has the capability to break cap, that doesn't mean everyone can break the cap by a huge amount, or even break cap at all. The fact that you can break the cap is balanced by the sheer amount of money and effort you'd need to actually go and reach the new cap, which, if I haven't pointed this out yet, you don't have to reach. I think it's a gross over exaggeration to judge Angelic Burster based on her maximum potential.

Second. Damage isn't all that matters to everyone. Apparently it's the only thing in the game for you, based on what you're saying, but it's not like that for everyone else. Few of my friends actually boss, major bosses anyway, anymore, and they spend most of their time doing traits, or doing party quests, related to traits, doing monster park for whatever reason, collecting monster cards, familiars, some of them hunt area bosses. I personally feel most of those things are a waste of time, and I spend all my time either training characters on a whim, or bossing, but they've shown me that there are things you can be doing outside of just bossing and increasing your damage to do more bosses.

Third. It really, really irks me that you have the audacity to say that I'm arguing against "the truth", when I'm arguing against your opinion. I guess, yes, you can define "the rules" to be damage and say that AB breaks all of them, and while that would be true, and a lot of the things you say are true statements, I think to call that "the truth" is a bit narrow.

This game is only about damage if that's what you want to focus on, if you set out to be a boss killer, then those super funded OP people are the kind of people you'll interact with, be in competition with.

But damage isn't the ultimate truth for everyone.

Zerard Wrote:How much rarer is it? Is it Jaira rare? Please say no...

I have no idea. I got the impression that Jaira became more common and Snow White became the new Jaira, in terms of rarity, so to speak. But I'm pretty sure that's not true. Either way, if the events with the Resistance revamp are like the kMS ones, both jaguars will spawn more frequently during the revamp events.

Evidently, if a class had the following skill:

Herpderp
MP Cost: 10000, Damage: 1%, Number of Hits: 15, Max Enemies Hit: 15, Max Damage: 1000000000

It would be broken as pomegranate.

Let me ask you this, how many players like to struggle to get through the content? See you sound just like nexon with this argument, "are game is free to play all the way up! Therefore we are justified to do whatever we want in cash shop". It's retarded logic.

iAmFear Wrote:Am I being billed for all my whispers, my chats, every character I type into the chat box? Do I pay entry fees to be able to do PQs and Monster Park? The only content I would say you really need to throw your money is are the new bosses.

I have to pay money to put up a shop in order to participate in the free market. I need money to use potions, even though the monsters money that is dropped is significantly less than the potion cost. All the drops monsters outside of bosses drop are worthless, most with high secondary requirements that in the long run make my character even more inefficient, I spend longer training just because I can't kill things without spending over 10x my poition cost, and I'm expected to carry max mesos around just to buy equipment that's worth keeping.

Seriously, my server doesn't even sell zakum helmets anymore because NX has become such a dependency. Not even the chaos varities. It would take you months to make enough money to even afford to spend millions on one piece of gear, where max meso is considered a base currency.

You can play the game for free, but the whole point of an MMO is progression, maplestory clearly strips any new players who don't participate in the black market or nx from ever growing. They are stuck at bare minimum equipment when people are making crap that is 10 thousand times better. You can play this "its my story not theirs" bs, but that isn't acceptable considering the extremes and lack of oppurtunites the players have in comparison. You can go completely "training/meso" ratio up until about 110, then you start seeing you are barely breaking even.

A boss should not be undefeatable then suddenly reveal a class that can manage to do it by her lonesome, the very circumstance should not exist. Go on maplestory right now, go put on your regular level 100 gear, unscrolled as you wouldnt be able to afford to scroll it, go use your 110 weapon and 60 it because you won't be able to afford white scrolls and tell me your range. I'll tell you this much, your boss swagger would go up to zakum/targa/MAYBE ht. All monsters that drop important skill books you can't afford.

F`uck off with this "its free to play", it's free to attempt to play but fall on your face in utter failure.

Oh no. Maplers know how to play their game much better than WoW players know how to play theirs. (And it's not like WoW is that much more complicated. It's just, you know, better designed.) I know this from firsthand experience.

Most WoW players are incredibly fucking stupid, whereas about every Mapler these days knows how to look up proper builds online at the very least.

No, seriously, which playerbase is known for dying by standing in fires/poison/black puddles of death/bright circles in the ground/other obvious things that will kill you if you don't move out of them? (Hint: Not Maplers.)

.....And that's why I quit WoW. I couldn't get into a competent guild because I joined too late, so my raiding mostly consisted of me dying because of other people screwing up. Me actually reading up on Elitist Jerks and learning how to optimally play my class and watching all the Tankspot videos meant nothing because most people I grouped with aren't even aware of such websites, and went for whatever equipment raised their Gearscore more instead of the gear that is actually optimal.

WoW bosses would wreck Maplers? Ha. Pit a party of average WoW players against Magnus and they'll have the death count down to 0 in three minutes. Moving out of the way of things that will kill them is kind of their weakness.

I wouldn't generalize too much. Just because Mapler don't have a need to avoid things doesn't mean that they can or cannot do it. You never know what kind of outside experience any given player has.

I will say that I do like a bit of the skill over pure stats thing. Though it wasn't WoW, I did play a 3D MMO where bosses did moves that could one-shot you. However, there was some sort of warning and the chance to get out of the way. What I hate about Maple Story is that they've tried to implement such a system, but have done so in a terrible fashion, like with Damage Reflect. In fact, I'd claim that they've literally gone BACKWARDS on the subject, because the Papulatus from years ago actually accomplished this. Ranged attackers would literally get OHKO'd by the body touch and you couldn't knock it back, leaving you with the strategy of having to walk past it when it was in hibernation mode if you were getting cornered. It took some practice, but it wasn't all that difficult, which kinda made it fun. Damage Reflect could have taken a similar road, had bosses been given a clear, unmissable casting animation of 2-3 seconds before the buff turned on.

Even Ergoth had a bit of a fun-level difficulty to it with the poison+1/1 thing. It could instantly kill you, but only if you neglected to notice that you were poisoned...something that shows up in your chat box.

Most DR bosses do have a second or two of DR animation in which you have a fraction of a second or two of warning to stop attacking (Arkarium, Von Leon, normal Hilla, CHT left head; PB has an animation but I don't know if it's safe to attack during it). The trouble is sometimes the animation isn't long enough and attacks like Phantom cards pop out after you stop attacking and get you killed anyway. Or Arkarium's auto-kill skill, it's barely avoidable, but only if you don't have skill animation lag and are fast enough to get the hell out of the way. Only Phantoms and *maybe* Jetts/Demon Slayers have enough movement to get out of range. Aswan rocks/bomb also lets you avoid them unless you get unlucky with where they appear.

Normal Mode Hilla (and Azwan in general) is a pretty well designed boss IMO, she gives warnings about all her attacks so you can react to them. There's still the trouble of the phantom card thing but whatever. Hard Mode Hilla is much more of a peach but hey, hard mode. Whatever. Hard mode also has 9999 accuracy so even classes with high avoid have to pay attention to where they are when killing her. She's a 2hko touch damage to me so I need to be very careful.

It's really only Empress and to a lesser extent, PB that have screwed up DR, and Empress is a screwed up glitchy boss anyway.

KhainiWest; I never said the game was free to play, I said there are things you can do in the game that don't require you to throw piles of money at it, and there are, because some people seem to think that you can't get anywhere at all in this game without breaking the bank, and outside of bossing there are plenty of things you can do.

What ever happened to spamming that you were selling crap in the Free Market entrance, do people not do that anymore? With the way NX is, you're gonna have to drop $10 if you wanna buy a permit. Or, possibly buy one from a friend with mesos, which is ~90m in Windia, ouch, tough for a new player, or borrow one until you make enough to pay them, or hell, ask if they can sell your stuff for you.

Everything outside of boss drops isn't exactly worthless. Monsters still drop scrolls, recipes (mostly worthless, though), and those new weapons that look like Cash Shop items, they're worth a pretty penny. Even the equips you get, NPC them, sell them as is to other players, extract them and sell the crystals, or use the crystals to make your own equips. They're not worth much in comparison to boss drops, but they're not worthless.

There are six out of, what, twenty three classes now, that require skill books from Zak, which you can now get from Hilla, and if you happen to choose one of those six, neither boss is that difficult such that you would need massive upgrading to do, especially with a group. You're not required to go through this game alone, after all, and it'd probably be a lot harder if you do.

While 3 out of the 5 classes, Mage, Thief, Pirate, comprising 14 out of the 23 non-Cygnus classes, require secondary stats now, along with Archer weapons, come Tempest, secondary stats will be a thing of the past, so it's not like you'll be forced to pump into your secondary stat and cripple your character to wear standard, but greatly subpar equips.

It's not like any old Angelic Burster can walk up to Magnus and wipe the floor with him. I don't think anyone expected her to be able to solo it, but one guy wanted to, he beefed up his character to the very extreme, and he did, and he couldn't even do that until the buff AB got from Hyper Skills. It wasn't an expected outcome, it was a fluke. And now it can't, it took half the time before, and now, with the last patch, and this one, over half its damage is gone.

The easy way out is to throw money at the game, but that's not the only way for everything. You don't have to go from beginner clothes to decked out in perfect 30% stat Empress equips, you don't have to instantly begin saving all your money in the hopes that one day, you'll get enough mesos to afford the absolute best equip. How to get some okay percent stat equips? Craft them, craft a million of them, earrings, belts, tops, bottoms, weapons, whatever. Monster Park, do it five times a day until you get what you want, fuse those, sell the other equips. You're not gonna be rolling in hundreds of percents worth of equips, or getting some 70% boss legendary weapon, but there are options. While we're at it, pots? Make your own, it's pretty cheap, and the comparison between crafted MP pots and regular MP pots is even better, and even the lowest ones heal 1k, better than the crappy pots that drop. Scrounge up your Aswan coins, use those scrolls, it'll take you days, probably, and unless you're incredibly lucky, it probably won't be very good, but it's okay. Even luckier if you're playing during a coin shop event, save up your coins, do all the events, get free pots from whatever boxes you're getting, buy weapons, buy scrolls, buy equips. These are all there, they're means. Why disregard it? Because it's difficult? Because it takes time? I don't promise that you can do this and become God tier, but you'll probably be better off than you were. And I'm pretty sure slowly upgrading your gear is closer to the idea of progression than being able to get the best tier equips at a cheap, affordable price and scroll them nicely, without having to go through the interim steps.

Yes, this game can hardly be called free to play, but it's not completely pay to play either.

ZeekFox Wrote:Damage Reflect could have taken a similar road, had bosses been given a clear, unmissable casting animation of 2-3 seconds before the buff turned on..

Damage reflect is actually pretty nice for most bosses. Most of them don't damage reflect until a certain percentage of their HP has been chipped off, and it's a bit more difficult if you don't have the luxury of crash, but you can continue attacking as long as they're doing some other animation because they won't break it just to do damage reflect, and from then on, it's just timing. It's not immediately obvious within the game when a boss will begin casting DR or how long the cooldown on their damage reflect skill is, it'd take multiple trials of testing to get it right, but, we also have the luxury of being able to view such things in the data through extractions and what not.
