WHY AREN'T YOU DOING WHAT I TELL YOU, SWORD!?

Twilight Princess is forever ruined by Skyward Sword.

Twilight Princess Link never went to the Skyloft Knight Academy, so he doesn't know all their "advanced" techniques. He can't help he grew up in a small town where the only ones who could teach him swordplay were little kids.

Both of those are great games, but holy pomegranate skyward sword was amazing.

Yeah, haven't been able to touch Twilight Princess again after playing through Skyward Sword Dx
I wonder if it would've been better for me to own the GameCube version, cause I still liked Twilight Princess =S

The limit of variation in SS battles is (If you really want to make the game easy mode) SHIELD BASH AND SWING LIKE MAD or (Slightly less easy mode) "Choose one of 4 angles to swing at". There is little to no variation in enemies throughout the entire game. Virtually every "new" enemy you meet is just a case of seeing when you need to shield bash. I much prefer TP having to find out which item (if any) you're supposed to use on an enemy, and then, if it turns out it's your sword, which of your pretty numerous sword techniques you need to use to beat them. Not to mention, there are many fewer enemy types (54+12 unique bosses in skyward sword vs 72+20 unique bosses in twilight princess, counting reskins seperately) and the amount of enemies that clearly have shared A.I./ Weaknesses is far greater in skyward sword

When I first saw his reviews a couple months back I thought, ''Wow, first time a review of this series hasn't made me utterly facepalm from the disgusting bias.'' I haven't played Twilight Princess in 6 years so I can't say I remember most of it, just the general story and the nice double hookshots and areas/items. They were nice sure, but I still give Skyward Sword credit for turning the boring button smashing sword fights into something more exciting than that. I doubt Twilight Princess had the accuracy to do a battle system like Skyward Sword. I wanted to replay it but my brother lost my copy, so it's gone. As for "should I get it?", I say yeah. I don't understand why you wouldn't. Part of the reason I enjoyed it was because it was story heavy and I liked it. It felt more rewarding saving Zelda in this game because I didn't feel like I was being commanded by a princess and she was actually someone who cared about me. Link and Zelda's relationship in this game is way better than the previous ones and the storyline + cutscenes were really good here. So I don't know why you wouldn't get it other than the somewhat common complaint of controls being "too difficult and/or annoying".

Adding on to what Locked; said, I 100% agree that the storyline was superb. Although some people are saying that they dislike the controls/combat system, I found it both enjoyable and a lot of fun to play. Mainly the fact that Link's sword would follow my hand and follow it well, really put this game on a whole other level for me.

The gamecube version was my preferred version. But somehow, people always seem to forget that you didn't magically kill every enemy with no thought when you came across it in twilight princess. Just in stead of working out which angle you needed to swing your sword at, you needed to work out where you had to hit the enemy instead. You did have more options in sword fights to use against enemies where necessary. Skyward Sword had : Stab, Diagonal Left slash, Diagonal Right slash, Sideways slash, Vertical slash, Jump attack, Spin attack, Shield bash, Skyward strike. (Unique ones mostly focused on attacking at angles). Twilight princess had: Stab, Side slash, Vertical slash, Jump attack, Spin attack, Ending Blow (Kill grounded enemies), Shield Bash, Back Slash (Roll behind enmy and stab in the back), Helm Splitter (Attack the enemies head), Mortal Draw (draw sword quickly for an instant attack), Jump Strike (Hit the ground with your sword, causing a shockwave), Great Spin Attack. 12 attacks, most of the unique ones focused on where you were hitting your enemy. It also helps that TP didn't make Shield bashing the most overpowered thing of all time. Plus twilight princess link has the bonus of being taught directly by the spirit of the hero of time

I am pretty sure that SS had a move that let you kill enemies when they were grounded, so really it's 10 different moves to 12. Not a big deal and I think SS made up for it with the fact that the game actually utilizes the motion control well. Also, I don't remember really using the shield-bash that much, so I can't speak to its OP-ness, but since I didn't spam it like a noob, I had a good experience with the game.

Yeah I didn't spam shield bash either.. I at least enjoy having some difficulty while playing. No need to easy mode it.
2012-11-11, 09:45 PM
I much preferred to roll out of the way or back flip away from attacks than shield bash. Made things much more risky. Just because an easy way out of a fight exists, that doesn't mean it's the only way out of it. That's like saying pokemon blue was easy as hell because missingno existed. (Granted, he's a glitch, but kiiiiinda the same thing? Maybe?)

Lozmaster Wrote:SWING LIKE MAD There's the problem. If you swing like crazy, it's not going to be fun. Why would you even do that? You don't do that in real life if you use a sword, do you? If you slow down and properly plan and aim your strikes, you'll have a much more interesting time. This is also a reason why I can't stand to watch people play this game on Youtube. It drives me nuts. Those movements aren't even natural. Lozmaster Wrote:"Choose one of 4 angles to swing at" Swordplay has 9 basic strikes that Skyward Sword utilizes. You're missing out on more than half of them. Locked Wrote:Yeah I didn't spam shield bash either.. I at least enjoy having some difficulty while playing. No need to easy mode it. Or this. If you limit yourself and actually try to have some fun, you'll have more fun than you think.
