Not in all cases. Obviously, games that heavily focus on using the tablet like Zombii U require it, but other games aren't so heavy on it allow you to play purely with Wiimotes/Classic controllers, like New SUper MArio Bros U.
That said, I don't understand why you would want to buy a wii u without the tablet.

The $300 Black Wii U isn't limited edition right?
I was about to look into buying one, then I saw that MH3U isn't until March 2013...I had originally thought it was a release game, so now I don't care about the Wii U until March 2013.

I was at Best Buy Saturday and had a chance to play the Rayman Legends demo. The pad just felt so right in my hands and I really enjoyed it.
If I wasn't broke as hell, I'd be hunting for one shortly after launch but it's probably going to have to wait some months before I can get a budget together for one.

I believe the only thing limited about the premium is the 10% credit back on digital purchases. But that lasts for 2 years I think. Oh and it might not always come in black if thats an issue?
We might get this "Bundle" over here in the west too. But it's nothing exciting.

Honestly I just care about the extra features in the "Pro" or whatever they're calling it this time.
I might get that MH3U bundle if we get it, but for Japan MH3G HD is a release game and for us it's not (which annoys me, but it's common so bleh), which may hurt our chances of getting said bundle.
Plus there's PSP bundles for MH all the time and I don't think we've ever seen one of those here. Thankfully the PSP is not region locked *hugs MHP3 Limited Edition PSP*
Speaking of, any word on if the Wii U is?

For now, until Homebrew is resurrected in WiiU form.

The brick controller is worthless in my opinion, but the classic one looks pretty awesome.

Some eshop info.
NA games eShop launch list:
Developer commentary on eshop :
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/18/n...ii-u-eshop
Important stuff:
Quote:Thats what we love about the new eShop. We have the power to price our products as we please, with just some basic guidelines from the big guys. The step to this is purely from Nintendoss side and they clearly see that [their] previous installments have not been up to par. We can set our own pricing and actually continuing on that by setting our own sales whenever we want. It is very close to what Apple and Steam are doing at the moment, and very indie friendly.
Another encouraging piece of news concerns patching. According to Haveri, there arent any basic payments for each patch. That allows the studio to update our game almost as much as we want.
They have pushed away all of the old methods that have been established before. Simply put theyve told us that there are no basic payments for each patch (which were pretty high on most platforms) and that we can update our game almost as much as we want. For indie developers this is huge.

I'll wait a while for the Wii U.
Probably another year until I get one.

Was it particularly busy when you went to get yours? (Unless you ordered it online, then it's an obvious answer)

They were all sold out but I had mine on preorder. A lot of people asked for it but the employees said "Sorry, these are all on hold". So yeah, moderately busy.
Also, Nintendoland is fun as hell.

Parents picking mine up right now. NintendoLand looks really fun, from watching the twitch.tv streams.

Got mine a little while ago, it's almost done transferring my old Wii data and then I can dive straight into Nintendo Land!
