Hence, I'm asking for a facedesk image.
...she's done a request from the fans saying "op is a fa----"
...however, if this is real, then I just spoiled something.
ALSO YOU HAVE A STEAM?! I MUST FIND YOU.

News update because news update.
...Oh wait, I lied. There is none. All EQLA footage should be out by election day. What's done is done. Excuse me while I hunt down a certain stallion who's hair I hate to the hardest extent that's almost on the same level as rarity's.

I've had it forever, I just incorrectly linked it. Warning: I pretty much only play LoL and MS through it right now. I'm just transitioning off of getting everything for my PS3 and onto Steam.

Skyrim seems easier on the PC. Rolleyes

Twilight will simply be the most powerful unicorn ever. Alicorn is just silly, and we all know Tara Strong is mostly silly in her tweets and obviously won't spoil something like that.

Right. Obviously she's actually been a changeling this whole time.

We have Unicorns/Alicorns that are pretty much 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons wizards in terms magic for everything, Pegasai with flight and weather control, and Earth ponies that can... earth, but Twilight Sparkle in her grand old age has grown bored with studying these races. Using her ultimate Celestia-taught life giving magic, she has decided to create her own! Unfortunately, she can't think of anything.

Through the power of SCIENCE, she has deduced that summoning a completely rampant pony fan might be a good start. Digging through her portal to the internet of 2012, she has re-discovered the brony community and found a group that over-analyzes absolutely everything in Equestria. Figuring that fights over the amount of stars on her butt symbol might be a waste of their energy, she has decided to give them a task!

Your mission is to design a new pony race, one that would benefit Equestrians everywhere! Wings and horns are taken, so they need a specific implement to set them apart.

Now go!

Go. Keep me entertained for 11 more posts.

Also, for a bit of discussion, it seems like Disney might be making a grab to buy Hasbro at some point in the future, similar to their recent buyout of LucasFilm. An more in-depth article can be found here.

Now, normally, I'd be fine with this. Disney knows the way the wind blows, and they're good about protecting quality.

On the other hand, they struggle with making sequels they aren't heavily invested in, and there's one other major problem.

Disney is fiercely protective about their IP and their copyrights. Assuming Disney did acquire Hasbro, and should they choose to exert the full might of copyright law as they tend to do, it could really cause some problems. At best, they'd just leave it alone, or they could start sending cease and desist orders, demand content be removed, and even possibly sue people for profiting of their copyright.

Hasbro in general has been very lenient, but I'm not sure Disney would offer the same laxness.

Isn't Disney affiliated with Mattel, Hasbro's competition?

What's with Disney buying companies? This is like a game of Monopoly. I'm not surprised if Disney has bought the rights of Monopoly.

Disney and Mattel are affiliated in only the loosest sense of the term. Neither company owns either, and they more or less collaborate on toy lines now and then.

Well okay then.

About the "protective copyright laws" Disney does, do you know how far Disney can abide in terms of fandom stuff, assuming Disney will buy Hasbro? I know distributing links to full-length episodes on Youtube and auctioning stuffed toys are out of the question, but what about non-for-profit fan animation or games such as Fighting is Magic? Heck, what about brony-cons? Will those be "banned" by Disney too?
Reply
It depends.

"Legally" they can call a cease and desist to anything using their IP. Disney tends to be lax on fan art, so that's probably fine. The NSFW art? That might be a bit different, but it doesn't stop people now from making Disney Princess Porn.

As long as someone isn't directly profiting from it, Disney has no reason to protect it. If they don't protect their copyright, then legally, they lose it.

In the case of Fighting is Magic, well, Mane6 does not profit from it, so they're fine on that front, but if Disney decides it's making a bad name for their company and their characters, then that might be a point of conflict. Any non-profit thing is fine, as long as Disney stays happy.

Disney in general is pretty lax. I imagine they'd start crunching down on things like musicians using remixes as part of their albums. Things like Tomb and Balloon Party are probably fine, since they don't profit off of it, and if they do, they aren't using show samples, just drawing from the show for inspiration, which is fine under fair use. I'm not sure about Silva Hound. He releases several things that could be contested, and he charges for his albums... it's a toss up.

Cons are probably the trickiest part. If you think about things like dealers halls, that's a bunch of people profiting off of someone's IP, even if it is their own art. Most cons don't really turn a profit, BroNYcon in particular lost money (though there are some unfortunate influences involved in that), but still, they're allowing people to sell art of copyrighted characters.

It depends on how Disney wants to interpret "fair use" and if they want to go to the trouble. Disney hasn't ever owned something with such a bizarre viral fandom before. The closest comparison would be Nintendo, but they are extremely lax on fan works.

Like I said, it depends. I'd rather it just not happen, since Hasbro handles themselves pretty well.

If Disney goes all sue-happy on our fanmade stuff, I'd die on the inside oh so much. The ability to churn out fanwork like mad is what makes the fandom so awesome. Of course Bronies churn out both safe and NotSafeForWoona like mad, but hey. Gotta take the bad with the good, as long as nopony is being all Herbert the Pervert.

In a weird way, I'd compare us to sports fans when it comes to passion. Minus the riots of course.
