As someone who got to 125 before 4th job came out, I don't even understand how I had the patience back then to grind.
It's mostly me popping back into maplestory to check out the new patch, get addicted for a week, realize it's pointless and quit.

Help my guildies while grinding or PQing with them is all I can do to have fun, and after seven years I still enjoy it. C':

Maple has been dead for quite a while. Up to nexon to realize their mistakes.

Everyone wants to be strong enough to not be a weight for their friends, or even support their friends. Or maybe they want to be self-sufficient to maximize profit. Everyones reason is different, a lot will claim "oh, it's fun because of friends!". It's a distraction to what you're really doing, upgrading so you can do this, or that, or the other.
Maplestory has nothing to offer you once you can solo bosses, absolutely nothing. Eventually all you can do is go afk to wait for boss CD's to pass, or waiting for your once active friends to pop in. The game just loses it's luster. Not to even mention the constant class hopping, they function off you attempting to upgrade that new class until your satisfied. By the time you manage it, they nerf it and release a new one.
I've hit this wall numerous times since September 2011 but thought server transferring would be fun. I'll admit that when I went to Nido I had a good time, but it only lasted like 2 months.
Nion Wrote:Sounds lonesome. Do you have any IRL friends that play with you?
I do but they play in different servers. Even then it's still boring; we'd have more fun playing on XBL.

Chat up buddies usually. Almost always there is a friend asking for help with Zakum or something so I need to go do that; but that's not exactly fun considering it takes what, 6-8 minutes for me? Bleeeh... free charm from helms is always cool though.
Guildies are AFK which pisses me off; usually hang with my friend Kristin who is really old school like me T_T I miss the old days; but Im not gonna go on about THAT anymore. Done enough of that.
They need to invent a server in which only people who have played before 2008 or 09 or maybe even 2006 or 07 can join. I really, REALLY, REALLY, miss MapleStory. Best game I ever played, in it's prime at least. Great now I'm feeling sad.

Good times </3
I miss maple so much
Pretty much the only legitimately FUN thing I do on GheypleStory anymore is go with Kristin and do boss runs - toad boss, that samurai thing, grandpa boss, black crow. You know the deal, old stuff.

I just try to help out with friends and alliance members. I log on, do my daily VL, Hilla, etc. When I'm done doing what I do, I go afk for GP.

I can barely find Maple as much fun compared during pre big bang era, but to answer the question I normally train my other accounts to level 200 during 2x events. Other than that I try to APQ + CWKPQ, chatting with friends, fighting some bosses and random things to entertain myself =P

Semi-quit until Justice hits MSEA so I won't take that much time killing that stupid Boar boss in Elin...so that the tusk (or whatever the quest item was) hunting would be less of a drag...
...all I really do nowadays is do random quests anyway.

Back then, higher level actually meant meaningful content. This was when expeditions took so long that the server needed to actually have a weekly schedule. This was when your level mattered more than your gear when it came to strength: your choice of what skills you maxed was pretty much your identity. This was when you needed to be rich to train, not because of your gear but because potions ate up 90% of the money you get from training unless you found something rare like a popular 60% weapon scroll.
Even though it took hours for a single level before 4th job, there was an actual benefit and incentive to grind: it meant you were one step closer to great content.

Pretty much all I can do is bossing, if I feel like it.
I wanted to train at Stronghold, but I can only go with friends, guildmate or alliancemate since I dislike randoms. Except people in the guild/alliance I'm in or that are my friends aren't that active for whatever reason. Who knows?
Solo training isn't an option for me, because the EXP I get level 140+ seems so slow. I should have at least gotten to level 200 or at least the last eighth or quarter of level 120 to 200 (Around level 180 to 199 to say the least) from Red Leaf High if the NX charging from Credit Card isn't screwed up.

It was playable before Renegades came out, but the Mercedes and Demon Slayer ruined the balance for me.
I like upgrading. Incremental improvements to my gear are usually possible, otherwise, incremental improvements to my characters.

I have fun every now and then, but I've mainly been playing Windia and loving how active it is.
My daily schedule consists of...
1) Hunting Event Items at ToT
2) AFK in ToT
3) Empress / CHT
4) Hang out with friends in Henesys or anywhere else
5) Log off.

I think the fact that there are hardly any fansites left, 2x events are basically taken for granted, and that there is a slew of new NX items each week is a great indication of the road we're going (and have been for a while) down. I haven't logged in a few months. I've played since beta, like a lot of you here, and played Scania up until 2009 or so. There are tons of reasons why the game has lost its appeal, but for me at least, I've seen a huge decrease in the quality of the content. Nexon hasn't even tried to hide the fact that they are purely profit driven and will do anything to get someone to spend a few bucks on a useless or overpowered NX item. I got really into the game in July/August of this past summer and grinded from 1-145 in a few weeks. Then, like everyone else, fall came and reality slapped us in the face.
I think Nexon has spread the game way too thin with the exorbitant amount of classes, array of useless cash items, lack of quality quests, events, and PQs, and the absence of unique content. All we're getting is rehashed KMS content which we all know about weeks or months ahead of time that aren't tailored for our particular culture and playerbase. How exciting can that be? Nexon has given up quality and longevity for a quick buck (like so many corporations today). You look at the iPhone 5, for example, and it really hasn't had too many huge changes on the surface. But Apple has implemented so many great fixes to the foundation while building upon what has worked for them all these years. I just don't know what Nexon is doing that actually has a purpose. The game moves so quickly now that the casual player has no hope of keeping up with events that can be over in a week. That's great for hardcore players, but it just seems overwhelming and I don't see what is being achieved. Party quests, which used to be social gatherings and joint ventures, are now nothing more than "invite some dude so we can grind". I could go on forever, but I honestly don't think there is any coming back at this point. It's too far gone.

@Savage: This is actually a really good point. I find it a lot harder to enjoy the game now than I did a few years ago. I think it peaked in 08 before they started adding 2x cards and whatnot. I remember those 2 hour zakum runs back in the day with loot orders and everything. xD
Nowadays to keep myself entertained I go hunting bosses, do events if they are interesting and occasionally train. Honestly I think I would play a lot less if they didn't give us so many events every few weeks.
