How was your day?
Eos and others have asked: What are you going to do with your wealth?

Why, max out my 401(k) and Roth, of course. The numbers work.

Feels f'ing awesome man.

The position I just got doesn't give me access to my 401k until next year.

Would you mind explaining the differences between the two?

Turns out it was Kawasaki Syndrome. I'm actually at the hospital right now latching on their crappy internet. She's fine, though...?
Other than that, this is where I'm spending most of my Sunday...and I can't even watch a simple livestream...I'll just wait for the videos on YT like everyone else -_-

Also, turns out my pathway teacher lost my project, so now I'm gonna fail his class for the quarter unless he finds it, or I plead with him when I get back from break...GREAT...Also trying to reorganize my events calendar, so I can probably mark a date for the Pony TF2 night.

Annoyed. I seriously cannot study when my family is awake, especially when my mother is streaming her K-dramas. Can't wait until she leaves for Korea for a month.

Going back to my old schedule of sleeping from 9 PM to 2 AM and studying then starting tonight.

The less I see my family, the better.

Went home to see my parents! Had a homecooked sunday meal and took advantage of the free laundry haha

I feel so happy today. Which may or may not have anything to do with the amazing guy I met on friday and have been texting all weekend. I sound like a teenage girl, i'm just that happy and all my friends can tell.

Well, they're not really comparable.

There are two different kinds of accounts - traditional and roth. Traditional is pre-tax. Money goes into it before federal/state tax is counted (but you still pay FICA), and it's a retirement account that grows tax deferred. Retirement withdraws are not tax free.

Roth is post-tax. You are taxed on the income, and you put the income into an IRA. Retirement withdraws are tax free.

Tax man gets his money either way.

401(k)s are typically Traditional, but Roth 401(k)s are starting to become a thing.

401(k)s have a 17k/yr contribution limit. Roth has a 5k/yr contribution limit.

Common with a 401(k) is an employer match. If you put in 5% of your earnings, the employer will match that earnings (giving you 5 + 5 = net effective 10%).

GIYF.

Anything outside of government* Not many actually do matches anymore unless they are private companies. However government pay more in education than in private so it's really where you want to be out of high school. But yes fiel is right, traditional roth is the best way to go atm. There was some article where it said if you match your ROTH for 5-7 years straight you're a guaranteed millionaire or something. But that was back in 2009, maybe outdated

Well, traditional + roth is really the only way to go. If you have multiple roths by multiple companies it makes absolutely no difference to the IRS. They view all of it as one pooled sum with a defined universal contribution limit. Same way with traditional IRAs. So just having one of each (and rolling all IRAs to new employers/accounts) just makes things easier.

There are other advantages to roth IRAs too. Like, you can withdraw your personal contributions at any time. You cannot withdraw capital gains unless you want to be smacked with a 10% penalty. Once you get to a proper retirement age you can withdraw penalty free.

You've been a member since 2008? Gorl, you missed the train to fabulous town.

I was delighted to see Hotel Transylvania and Looper this weekend; both are FANTASTIC films. I highly recommend them. Also went to the mall and fun times were had.

There is a lot of gay people who play Maplestory.

Even in the FFR (Flash Flash Revolution) and Stepmania community, there is a lot of gay people as well.

So much to do tonight and I haven't even started yet because I'm dealing with fashion editor business, coordinating selling football tickets, and talking with my roommate who just got moved to part-time, effective immediately, and had her salary halved, thanks to this economy.

SO MANY EMOTIONS

Me and my friends went out to a bar we had been planning to go too. It happened to be Pub Quiz night which we didn't know about! We had cocktails. We won some prizes and had a great time. It was a really, really fun night.

My friends had to go back at like 11pm, one friend had work to do and the other had no money, so I ended up going home. At which point I receive a text back from the guy I met on friday who I've been texting constantly. He asked if it's not too late to go for one more drink with him.

So we did. It ended up being like 3 or 4 drinks, just sat there talking. Sighhhh. Life is so good right now.

EDIT: Realized I made a grammatical mistake that made me sound like a stalker. >_>
