Rumor: Nexon and NCsoft eye Valve buyout

A South Korean newspaper is reporting that MMO companies Nexon and NCsoft are joining forces to consider buying Valve. The two companies have been gathering together funds via stock sales and real estate deals. A meeting between the three companies supposedly happened in Hawaii on September 26th to haggle on a $893 million-plus deal.

The three companies are already entangled in various business dealings. Nexon is NCsoft's biggest shareholder, and both companies have titles represented on Valve's Steam service. Additionally, Nexon licenses Counterstrike in Asia and announced that Counterstrike 2 was on the way.

NCsoft said that "there is no truth to this rumor" while Nexon refused to comment. Valve has been the subject of other attempted buyouts, including a reportedly $1 billion-plus deal from EA. I think I'd rather see Valve disband than in the hands of Nexon and/or NCsoft.

What makes Nexon think they'll be able to buy Valve for 800 million if EA already tried to buy it for 1 billion?

Because money isn't everything? Because EA might no longer be interested in negotiating?

Nexon might have other perks for the company in mind that EA simply didn't offer.

This would never happen. Valve is a privately-held company so it's not like Nexon could buy them out on the market, and there's no way that Gabe would ever sell.

This is not even a possibility, given Valve's company culture.

Nexon is prob just testing their luck. Valve is doing pretty good by themselves, Nexon just wants moar power over the game industry

Guys, guys, I'd be best if Nexon bought out Valve. If they do then we all can write tickets asking them to finally make Half-Life 3. Let's all support this
