IGN: I don't play MS
Pretty much all the quests are bad ._. Most of the quests in MS are just kill X of Y and collect Z for minimal reward. I liked the story in that desert town, and many of the job advancement quests are interesting, but after playing other MMOs with much more robust questing systems, MS just feels horribly lacking.
I thought the jump quests were okay, mostly because I didn't have any problems doing them. The movement controls did feel stiff, and a lot of them required you to abuse weird knockback mechanics, which was lame.

Kunagisa Wrote:The point is that Maplestory doesn't feel like a platformer. The jumps are too stiff, the platforms have misleading graphics, movement is sluggish; and forcing players to do them to fight a boss is rather obnoxious. I love platformers, I've even played crap as hard as I Wanna Be The Guy and was able to get far in it before I lost my flash drive with it. Maplestory is NOT a platformer though, it reminds me of an NES game with crappy controls who's only difficulty is IN the crappy controls, not he stages themselves.
MapleStory is a platformer. A bad one if you wish but still one. MapleStory should be taking advantage of all those elements that make a plaformer instead of trying to become something else and suck, thats one of the reasons why its becoming so monotonous. Instead of asking for them to take JQs away, we should be asking for them to improve mobility in the game. It will never happen, but it is the right thing to do.
And I don't really get the so much complain about the Zakum JQ. It isn't that bad. Grapically it might be a bit off but you don't need to gamble every jump to get through, you only need good timing. Once you get a catch of the timing it's a piece of cake.

But I love jump quests in MS. It is one of the few things I am good at in this game..

I'm amazed no one complained about the In Search of the Book of Ancient quest, but back in the pre-BB days it was worth it for the magic rocks and summoning rocks.

Either the quests that require you to be on at X time (looking at you, Resistance quests), or the ones with horrendously low drop rates AND high item requirement (Eplam magnets, anyone?).

I like how this thread turned into a Megaman-like thread complaining of all the hard jumping quests. Only hard one is Ludibrium.
I was going to say Huckle's Magic Ingredients but since Nexon is finally changing that I won't. It used to be far more annoying but ya, an old quest is old. So I'll go with that silly Drum Bunny quest in Ludibrium. Collect 100 Drum Bunny drums then 500? So. many. levels. of. meh.

The Ludibrium was one of the only ones I actually had to run away from before I wanted to flip tables. I'm not sure what is it about that particular JQ but I keep falling over and over and there isn't even any lag.
Yeah, the Drumming Bunny quest was just plain annoying (Finished it though). I was hunting for DC ores to complete that other Drum Bunny quest so I thought I might as well stick to there until I was done.

If you think it's easy, good for you. Doesn't change the fact that it hasn't changed since day 1, even if some classes have skills that make it a breeze). Taking it away would mean the final nail of simplification, dumbing down, and easy-mode'ing in old MapleStory's coffin.
They changed rope mechanics, you can't be knocked off a rope by normal attacks at all, and if you're climbing, you can't be knocked off by anything. Both make the end of ZJQ easier - you can skip clever timing and just brute force it, jumping to the next rope as soon as you have a gap in the projectiles.
Sabitrama's 2nd JQ has always been my gold standard of annoying as pineapple. The Jr. Neckis make failure so much easier than success. And if you make the mistake of attacking them, they aggro to just the right spot to prevent you ever successfully getting past them.
Annoying quests? Anything that drops at a rate of under 1 in 100. I believe the worst offender here is the set of UA skill quests, which have a droprate of 1 in 5000 or something, and you need 70 items altogether. It's just the most ridiculously soul crushing thing to spend 3 hours training and make no progress. I wouldn't even mind if it was a 1 in 50 drop and you needed 7000 of them, at least you could make visible progress every day.

This one. Im only halve way through I think. lvl 2 gear with 7 orbs in inventory. And I would probably spend 30mins or so everyday getting some if i didnt then. "well I could do that but chances are I wont even get one."

Definitely UA skill quests. Getting Lunar Dews to begin with is a pain in the ass.
JQ's are okay for me since I've mastered pretty much all of them. I wish that Witch Tower JQ came back, though.
I'm starting to dislike the Hero's Will quest lately, and it's not only the Pianus part. I've tried killing Griffey probably over 10 times by now with 1.6x drop or 2x drop, and it's not dropping the wristband at all.

Horntail Party Quest!
You need to have 6 people present in a party in order to do that PQ. Annoying as hell if you're planning on fighting Horntail for the first time, if you want Horntail Pendant, and to get the card for it (Completing the Codex.) Thank god I have the emblem so I don't have to do that stupid PQ, BUT STILL!

Are you fighting regular Griffey or the one inside the Mystic Gate?

While jump quests make me spout excessive amounts language as colorful as the rainbow I usually managed to get through them in a day or two (the more non pattern based monsters the longer they took). Personally I found those low drop rate quests more annoying since I ended up being stuck on those quests longer than the jump quests. Also speaking of those quests did they up the rate for "Find Mariwaka's Purse!" because it took me forever and a day to finish that one?

Regular one. I know the Mystic Gate version doesn't drop any quest items. Still trying again today.

I love doing JQs. Double the fun when using my Shad + invincibility frames (although the new SS can make it more difficult now that you can't see pomegranate when using it).
Just wish they'd give a medal or something... JQ Master: increase max jump to 130, jump+30

My only problems with jump quests are that they come out of nowhere, don't really fit in, and restrict abilities.
Regardless of whether you think Maple is a platformer or not (and it really isn't unless you're stretching the definition of the word), jump quests just feel weird. You have a bunch of regular quests that you're doing and they just kinda show up randomly. No preparation, no training, just you in an environment that nothing else in the game has prepared you for. Pretty much every other quest I can think of just has you heading to a location, talking to an npc, or killing things/getting drops. Jump quests are just...there. They're neat if you want to do them, but I just don't get why they're there in the first place. If it's for something different, there are tons of other minigames or segments they could have implemented. Jump quests have their own weird difficulty curve too, which is awkward since you could have someone who never even knows they exist until they try to go do Zak (which has happened to multiple friends of mine).
I also really hate that JQ's take away all your abilities. Once you go in, everyone's the same. I can understand the need for resetting everyone's speed/jump because that'd only make it harder for some classes, but I still think we should be allowed to do, well, anything. Change the stages for each class, anything to make them actually fit in. Let classes with a Flash Jump be able to access alternate routes by hopping all the way over there, or let Warrior types be able to get a free Stance per "zone" attempt or something. Incorporate stuff like the high jump Mechanics/Corsairs/Cannoneers can do, have a section for them where they need to time it to reach higher platforms. Let Corsairs use Wings to glide down through traps. Who cares if anything I said is a terrible awful idea and the worst thing ever, just anything to make jump quests not feel so out of place and more interactive would be an improvement.

The only quest I really dislike is the Peridot one. Lunar Dews is 100x worse.
A normal quest? Probably some of the Eos Tower ones.
