Competitive Pokemon Tournament Signups
Dusk Wrote:When I use this analogy to collecting items in other RPGs, I find it pretty hard to understand why you'd hack 999 stats and items, and all the event Pokemon. Getting there is the fun part for me. Wailing on Youngster Joey with a Wondertomb, not so much.

though i agree and understand your first paragraph, i just need to clear the last one up a bit.
I never hacked a wondertomb, i hacked a wondereye. sableye > spiritomb. i never hacked for event pokemon, i never really bothered with them before the pikachu-colored pichu.

i just get defensive when people accuse me of things i dont do.

Omni Wrote:Dragons are some of the most under-estimated types in the metagame. When people see Flying/Dragon, they say "LOL gg Ice". Too bad that statement's useless if the Dragon-type hits first or can tank hits. There's so many Altaria movesets, but I found one that I particularly like. I might change it, still debating. It's extremely hard to set-up though.

Actually, Dragons are one of the best types in 4th Gen. OU is pretty much a Dragon/Steel metagame, since Steels are the only thing that resists Dragon type attacks. Salamence was the #2 used Pokemon in the Platinum metagame (behind Scizor) for a good reason. Dialga/Palkia/Giratina and Rayquaza are top threats in Ubers. UU lacks a good Dragon type, that's why Altaria catches most people off guard. A lot of people don't realize that its resistances are amazing in UU where Fire, Grass, Water, and Ground are the prominant attacking types. I've been using a defensive/support Altaria and it really helps cover the weaknesses in my team.

I also enjoy breeding and EV training. I got an action replay for Platinum and it sucked the fun out of the game, even though I was only creating legal Pokemon (no lolWondertomb or Wondereye). IMO, Action Replay is best used to obtain hard to get items, like certain TMs and PP Ups.

You're right on that. Dragons do dominate the game, but some people are too reckless. That's why Sala in OU metagame doesn't need more than 3 turns to set-up. 2-3 DDs is all it will ever need to wipe out an entire team, regardless of whether you're counting in STAB or not (speaking from 3rd gen perspective). Dragonite, Sala and Uber-dragons are some of the best in the OU-metagame and beyond. They're sometimes belittled because people assume that it's game-over because they have a Pokemon with an Ice attack, so they assume that Sala will be of very little threat. Altaria's a mini-Sala too, if you go for offensive and speed, only about 3-4 Dragon Dances is all it'll need, tbh, this is with Adamant Nature. I've seen sets for Defensive Altarias, and I wanted to use that, since defensive Alts works wonders with it's defensive stats as well as it's wide movepool (HELLYEAHAZE).

Another thing that makes Salamence so deadly is that it hits hard from both ends of the spectrum. 120 base power Outrage (physical) and 140 base power Draco Meteor (special) coming off of great attacking stats makes it very unpredictable. Another reason why Steels are so important in OU.

I've been using Dragon Claw/Roost/Heal Bell/Perish Song on my Altaria, making it a great utility Pokemon. Perish Song is very helpful against bulky sweepers, especially if it's their last Pokemon.

I was thinking of using something with Destiny Bond / Perish Song too. Forgot if this applies to Perish Song, but I think it's the same. Multi-hits can avoid it 100%. That's why Armaldo was literally God during 3rd gen metagame, I think it was either OU or BL back then. Swords Dance + Rock Blast > Wobbuffet's / ANYTHING's Destiny Bond.

Sorry tobias I was busy setting up my team since I just barely registered. I left the team builder open while I went out so I must've gotten your message back then. Anywho, for the rest of you, I'm available for practice matches. Screw awesome to use UU/NUs, I'm sticking with my favorites from UU/NUs Big Grin

Rhyperior is fun. Especially with the set I use, I abuse it's TERRIBLE SPEED and then amp it up if necessary. ♥ It eats Claydol's shit though . . .

Hmm. The list totally changed from the last time I studied it. I didn't realize a few OU Pokemon moved down to UU.

god damn building another team is harder than i thought.

i havent even begun rebuilding the team with replacements. im stuck now on redesigning the three i marked for that, and one is a simple "new moves here, new item there, change ability" thing.

Battled someone called Justin Bieber XoXo, and won.
Was a close one though, he kept stalling my setups with heal.
