Questions about names:
When did River learn his name? It wasn't when they got married (as he whispered "Look in my eye", not his name) and it wasn't at Trenzalore (as this took place after the Library). He did whisper something to her when he was dying (and in the Library episode, he did mention there was only on time he could have told her his name, ie. when he was dying) in Let's Kill Hitler, but I don't get how his name would've inspired her to give him all her regenerations.
Why is the Doctor's name so big? I mean, sure, last Time Lord, ender of the time war, blah blah, but it's a fucking name. And also, the Doctor mentioned his name "isn't the point", what he chose as his name was, and John Hurt, not acting "in the name of the Doctor, wasn't actually a Doctor, as Clara never met him, all across the Doctor's time stream.
And random questions:
Did we ever learn about the Doctor's parents? Maybe he's some kind of super-Time Lord?
Did Susan ever learn his real name? She was his granddaughter? Had he already taken up his new name by that time?
When did he choose his name?
Who set up all the junk at Trenzalore? River's fake grave, his burial site, etc? (They had to have known his name, to set that lock on the doors.)
Why did the Doctor agree to fight in the Time War? And we know Eight fought in it too, not just John Hurt. When did Eight regenerate (assuming Hurt is the 8.5th Doctor)? And did John Hurt regenerate into Nine when he used the Moment? And why did Ten (and Nine) seem sad about the killing of the Time Lords when "they" didn't even do it?
Why did Ten in The Impossible Planet ay it was impossible for something to come from before the universe when several Old Ones (eg. the Great Intelligence) have?

I think the Doctor just told River his name at one point because she's one of his closest companions. It could have just been some off-screen moment.
Why is the Doctor's name so big? I mean, sure, last Time Lord, ender of the time war, blah blah, but it's a pineappleing name. I'm thinking Moffat just wanted to trick us into thinking the Doctor's real name was important, and then reveal it really isn't. It seems like the title "the Doctor" is what is really important to him. Clara also didn't meet the Valeyard, the Watcher, or the Dream Lord either, and they're a part of the Doctor as well. Actually, did she even see the Eighth Doctor in that episode?
EDIT: His name did open his tomb though, so I guess that's why he doesn't want many people to know...though that has to be the worst password ever.
And random questions:
Did we ever learn about the Doctor's parents? Maybe he's some kind of super-Time Lord?
I think the Third Doctor mentions having a father at one point. The novel, Lungbarrow states that Time Lords are loomed. And the Cartmel Masterplan, which a friend of mine feels Moffat might be bringing back, states the Doctor is a reincarnation of The Other. Other than that, I don't think his family is really mentioned, besides Susan.
Did Susan ever learn his real name? She was his granddaughter? Had he already taken up his new name by that time?
Probably. Susan isn't her real name either, so I'm assuming they both picked their new identities around the same time.
When did he choose his name?
Probably around the time he left Gallifrey.
Who set up all the junk at Trenzalore? River's fake grave, his burial site, etc? (They had to have known his name, to set that lock on the doors.)
Maybe Moffat will explain that. :p

The Time War was just bullpomegranate created by RTD to get rid of Time Lords. There's no real reason why he fought in the Time War other than to make his Tenth incarnation a whiny emo peach.
I'm not an expert on Doctor Who though, so take my answers with a grain of salt.
Also I discovered this. Teenagers...

Matt Smith is leaving this christmas.
Possible british actors to replace him
Damien Molony is my personal favourite, he's hot, charming and he plays funny, smart, dark and eccentric very well, which is basically The Doctor in a nutshell.

No to every single one of those guys. They are way too young and pretty to play the Doctor. The Doctor needs to be played by an actor or actress who is at least in their 40s. Exceptions are fine as long as it's rare and the actor is good (like Matt Smith).
Saturday June 29th, BBC America will be airing the Doctors Revisited special, featuring my favorite Doctor....
....the Sixth Doctor.
Quote:Vengeance on Varos will represent the Sixth Doctors era next month in BBC Americas _Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited_ celebratory season.
A documentary entitled _Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited - The Sixth Doctor_ will air on Saturday 29th June at 7.30pm ET/PT, followed by an omnibus edition of the adventure, which was written by Philip Martin, directed by Ron Jones, and originally broadcast in two episodes in January 1985 as the second story in Season 22.
The documentary will see Sixth Doctor actor Colin Baker, both his companion actors Nicola Bryant and Bonnie Langford, and current lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, among others, examining the Sixth Doctors adventures and discussing his famous foes, including the universes most slippery businessman, Sil, who made his first appearance - of two so far - in the story.

After the amount of times they teased Tennant leaving and it turned out to be bullshit, I'll believe them when it happens and not before

OH great thanks. I've been too busy to organize time to watch the rest of Season 7 with my siblings (because we watch Doctor Who TOGETHER) and now I have to see this pop up? Just do "50th Anniversary" and leave it at that.

From what I've seen from the last season (I was at school and my teacher loves Dr. Who so he was playing it the last days to make our summer memorable(?)) and I'm looking forward to actually having sometime to actually watch the series (I only got to the 4th episode of the new series and I was loving it, up to the point school started again and I reached a melancholic depression (not sure if I'm using that right) of my friends leaving, which unfortunately tanked my grades leaving less time to actually watch the series, I already love it though so don't tell me that I'm going to love it )

Matt Smith is leaving? dang, he is going to be a tough one to replace.
Then again I said the same about David Tennant but Matt far exceeded my expectations.

I was thinking the same thing, I really liked David Tennant, and was really unsure of Matt Smith, even when he was shirtless in the first episode (sorry, I like my male leads to be hot) but he's definitely become my favourite doctor. I'm upset that he's leaving, but the possibility of who could be next is pretty exciting.

It already tells me the 11th Doctor isn't going to be around for Series 8 which means he's going to to be forced to regenerate, meaning the whole series is that much closer to the fabled 13th doctor. That's spoiler enough, because the actor for the Doctor leaving the show is SERIOUS BUSINESS. IF there's anything about the end of Series 7 that I don't know that may change or affect this, please, don't post anything.

This is actually my first regeneration"in real time," as I started watching at the beginning of season 6.
I know it's never going to happen because American but does anybody else think Robert Downey Jr. would make a great Doctor? Who do you guys wish would be the Doctor, but know won't be? And more importantly, where do you think Matt Smith is going to go from here?

RDJ would be much better than most actors people want as the Doctor (too many people want Daniel Radcliffe or Rupert Grint...maybe in 20 years guys). He'd have to stick with his British accent from the Sherlock films though. Time Lords tend to speak with Received Pronunciation and, despite the Doctor having the occasional Scottish or cockney accent, it would be even more odd if his next incarnation had an American accent.
IIRC, unlike previous actors who portrayed the Doctor, Matt Smith was a bit of a nobody before Doctor Who. This show has made him very famous, so I expect him to be in more TV series and movies after he leaves.
And Happy 70th Birthday to Colin Baker!
Of course his birthday just happens to be the day after mine. :p

Nah, RDJ is a definite no-no. He's had iconic roles already, as both Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. If they were going to hire an actor, they'd want people to see them as the Doctor. It kind of ruins the effect if the star is already iconic for other roles, because then The Doctor is just one of many, rather than being "the big role".
Like Matt Smith, he wasn't just The Doctor, he was also an ambassador for the show, he was simply known as "The Doctor", because it has become his defining role.
That's also why Daniel Radcliffe wouldn't work.

I had a rather bad first impression of Matt Smith too, so we'll just have to see what the new guy is like in action.

I'm actually pleased with the choice. An older Doctor was necessary after Matt Smith, and they didn't disappoint: Peter Capaldi is tied with Hartnell as the oldest actor to play the Doctor. I also suspect his age will make him a much darker Doctor, which is always cool.
