Looks like we got a conformation on December release and wtp Elsteam?
If they're releasing it in 3 patches, why would they put the last one in February? Most kids are in school all that month save a few days off. There's not really any more Christmas money run-off. There's Thanksgiving in november, when most kids have a half a week vacation, and people are gearing towards Christmas. Say it's black friday, and a parent is already buying christmas gifts. If their kid has shown new interest in Maple because of BB, why not pick up an NX card as a gift?
All they said was winter patches. Usually by November, I think of winter, not fall. The trees have no leaves, it snows occasionally, and it's nearly always cold. And if we're being technical about winter, most of December is the fall. You really can't confirm that we're getting BB December-January-February from the phrase winter patches.

I was hoping for Mechanic in December.. I guess my hopes are gone. But yeah, I knew it wouldn't have been soon, not even November (if they set Ulu City and Ghost Ship PQ to enable on November 3rd there's a reason).
Anyways,
MMORPG.com Wrote:So for the most exciting update to the game, Nexon presented “The Big Bang” at GDC Online 2010 in Austin. They have refined, redone, basically overhauled the core game, improved the graphics and halved the grind. Yes, you read that right: Halved the grind.
“We have so much content,” said Producer Crystin Cox, “that many players just have not gone through it yet. They love the game and wanted improvements rather than new things.”
I lol'd.

Apparently Nexon changed offices in July and has a secret door. hrm.

I find it more interesting that we found a twitter of a Nexon employee than how nervous she is to be speaking in public. Potential source of info? Looking through her tweets, probably not.

patch 1 - October
patch 2 - November
patch 3 - December
Of course you would call it a winter update, not a fall update, even though the first patch would be during fall.
I'm only going with this because moving the patch sequence by one month would cause Nexon to NOT maximize their ROI, given the release window of all the other major products/software intended for gamers. Again, if you're an executive at Nexon, you want to deploy the killer app part of the content BEFORE the competition releases theirs, not alongside it.
Why would -anyone- want Big Bang on the 2nd week of November? We all know there will be bugs, we all know this is not going to be a smoothly transitioned patch, we all know there will be at least a few server checks/emergency patches. Noone is going to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving vacation like this. Noone in his/her right mind will want to charge NX during these potential rollback periods because of what happened not too long ago. Did we all forget about people who charged NX for cubes/potentials and got rolled back and received their compensation way later (with some still waiting on said compensation) and lost their godly potential'ed stats? Why would you risk that again? We all know we're going to go power hungry with the class rebalances, and there is going to be a major desire to spend NX as we adjust to our characters. The Maple community can easily take their money elsewhere as they go to school/work and/or chat it up with friends who are enjoying new releases of other entertainment goods. Suddenly 'waiting on Nexon' isn't as patience-worthy as it was days ago. Nobody in their right mind would do it during such a vulnerable time.
Would you want to deal with alot of these issues or buy the new Fable or Kinect or Call of Duty: Black Ops or Gran Turismo 5? Would people in general wait it out for more Big Bang content or jump into WoW Cataclysm? The average Mapler doesn't even know the full details of the Big Bang update. Instead of running a stupid poll, Nexon should be detailing the changes ahead of time. There is plenty to sift through and read, especially since most of us have more than one character. Since your average Mapler isn't fully aware of BB, why would he/she put money aside to invest in the game once the BB is underway? I'm guessing most will go "oh but I already put money in buying x game, guess I'll hope for christmas money", and by then it'd be too late for a decent ROI.
Whatever time you think BB will come, add a few weeks to that time because that's when the game will actually be playable and safe in terms of NX charging. When it comes to the holiday season, you don't want to lose those weeks to downtime, because during this time you can not only lose revenue but also players. This is a real world view I am giving. This is why I argue for Big Bang to come as early as possible. Releasing it after January is a missed opportunity just as much as getting the timing of it wrong from now until the end of the year.
Get Big Bang up ASAP, get a marketing push going, and inform the community in-game and out-game of the changes to come. Get it done. Now.

The current estimated date for the November patch is the 3rd, since that's the day Ulu says it will be available. So that's three weeks for the game to stabilize after the patch. I would say that's enough.

I lol'd at the fact that I was able to find her Twitter, and it was even updated about her presentation, not about her being scared about it.
I looked for her name on Google just for fun, and was able to find her twitter, whose status, ironically, talked about the same presentation which the article I read was about (so I could make sure she actually was THAT person). I just found it funny.
Back on topic: yeah, Elsteam TOTALLY sounds stupid.
Why couldn't they leave the original korean name for once?

I really hope it's going to be as you said. I'm really looking forward to playing a Mechanic by December.

During that time millions of players will be knee deep into Call of Duty: Black Ops and Gran Turismo 5. It would be hell to pull them out of those... and the next month, if the pattern follows, would have Cataclysm welcoming players as others wait for fixes and the like.
There isn't much headroom for this holiday 2010.

The end of october is a real possibility. o.o That would mean skipping out on the release of world tour content we don't have though, and i'm not sure what would happen when ulu city comes out. It's already in the data blocked off until early november, so would it be changed by BB formulas as well? It pretty much remains to be seen just like all the other exclusive areas really. I'm not really looking for anything other than big bang. If they want to prove me wrong and release something more besides ulu city, at least don't make it china unless it isn't nerfed at all. (that's the feeling i'm getting by including that china monster) That place looks awesome post big bang.

All the Ulu City Mobs are in the data already that would mean before Novemember 3rd they would have to change all the mobs to fit to the Big Bang formula. Releasing it by the VERY END of November or VERY EARLY Decemember gives them all the time they need to change it plus the chance to do this:
Early December-Big Bang
Late December-Resistance
January-Mechanic
The original version of China is actually amazing. Though if we do get any nerfed version Taiwan would be the better bet because of the boss and its hp:exp ratio.
