MapleStory 2, welcome.
For some reason Spadow's avatar reminds me of Psy's gentleman hip dance..

Anyway, hooray for MS2 - I'll look forward to see what the development team has to offer.

It would be awesome if, instead of having 3d models, Nexons uses sprites in a similar fashion to Bastion which is a stunningly beautiful game.

If it's 3D, or even pseudo 3D, it'll strip the soul out of what makes MapleStory the game it is. I might try out the beta, but I probably won't stay if the conditions on this list are not met:

- 2D. Hopefully that screenshot will not be what the game actually looks like. If it does look like that, I don't think I'll be interested.
- Not P2W.
- In game GM's patrolling the servers.
- Not P2W.
- 4-8 unique classes. A little less at the start is okay, but certainly not more. Each class should be balanced accordingly. Ranged classes should have low HP but high damage, etc.
- Not P2W.
- Only minor benefits available in the cash shop. Safety Charms, Clothing, Pets, etc., are fine. First sight of anything that gives game-breaking advantage such as cubes, shielding wards, etc., I'm uninstalling. Nexon has acknowledged that they know it's an issue with MS1. If they turn around and do the same thing with MS2, they may as well just take the game down. It will flop.

Optional but nice features include:

- A reporting system that works.
- Free shops. I know a lot of games have auction house systems, but I have fond memories of browsing the free market. Not really a deal breaker though.
- Hopefully the old towns will regain new life. Some of my best memories of this game were traveling through towns such as Ludibrium and World Tour areas which are now worthless. I really hope Nexon makes more of an effort to keep balance in the game and give people reasons to return to these towns and keep going back.

You could try reading the thread. it's already confirmed 100% to be fully 3D. Also, everyone in this thread is pushing their Maplestory 1 experiences and impressions onto this wayyyyy too hard. This is looking to be a maplestory sequel in spirit only. Nothing more. Maybe chibi with similar monsters, but that's about it.

It'll definitely have similar monsters.

I have.. hopes for this one. Ragnarok 2 didn't give me a good impression of MMO sequels, but maybe this could do something before Nexon execs turn it P2W.

Hold up... Even though it's going to be 3D, will it be a side scroller like Kirby 64? I don't understand that "quarter view" part. :f6:

That image has been posted before. We don't know when this image was taken, for all we know this could be a very early interpretation of the game.
MapleStory 2 uses PathEngine. Click here to see which games are using PathEngine.

Hm, blade and soul uses the same engine as digimon masters, heva online and RO2 thats interesting.
Also can't say what to expect, digimon master and heva(games I've played from that list) look good but have a few amount of weird graphic glitches, don't know if thats due to the engine.

I'm already imaginging what 3D Slime King would look like. Those slimes in Dragon Quest VIII(?) but with different eyes.

But yeah L>in-game screen shots ;_; -bites on keyboard-.

Dark Link Wrote:For anyone else who is/was confused as to what "Quarter View" is, as I was. It's basically the same view / camera as what Action RPG games use. (Ex. Diablo, Torchlight, Path of Exile).

Obviously there's more games that use the same camera view, but all ARPGs pretty much use it.

Oh yeah I forgot about those. They give an edge, but isn't as a big slap in the face to people that want to play for (mostly) free. They don't ruin the game as hard as Potential/Cubes did, nor is it as stupid as not letting your Cash Shop be account wide so you are non-subtly forced to spend more money if you happen to like that new class.

A wish I'd like for Maplestory 2 but sadly I highly doubt it'd ever happen: Make a level cap that's achievable by casual playing, but make fun/challenging end-game content. Don't make leveling be the primary goal of the game. Make end-game content be the primary goal of the game.

The sprites in Bastion were rendered from 3d models.

If they bring back the social aspect of MS1 to MS2, then I'll gladly open my arms to it despite of the cutesy 3D graphics. As for the end-game content, well, we did have a good amount of bosses in MS1 that you could fight at higher levels like Chaos Horntail/Zakum/Pink Bean, Von Leon, Cygnus, Magnus, ect ect. It's just that level for those bosses are only prerequisites and beating them depends on how funded you are. If Nexon were to nerf these bosses to the point in which anyone can form a party and enjoy them as a team, then most people wouldn't be complaining about there not being high level content, but that might not happen since we all know that Nexon's only goal is to make profit with their most ridiculous shcemes. We do have a lot of high level content, they're just not "free". Tongue

Maplestory 1 does have end-game content, but there's just a sense of OCD that gnaws at you when you know that your character still hasn't hit the maximum possible level after years of casually playing (even moreso with the 250 cap). At best it should take months of casual playing, not years to get to the level cap (see pre-Big Bang leveling, can't really say how slow it is for post-200 cap leveling).

A resounding "meh" from me. If I wanted to play a three dimensional game, I wouldn't have picked up Maple Story to begin with.
