For all we know he might have used chi blocking to stop bending. There wasn't any glowing spirit light coming out of his or that victim's body.

No, he was in a really similar position to Aang when he energybent Ozai, and the giant glowing might just have been from the perspective of those involved. That, and chi blocking wears off after a while, and requires strikes.

Doesn't seem like the episode is available anywhere on the internet for now...

I dunno why, but when Lightning-bending was established, it was introduced as an extremely high-level bending technique known and practiced by the very few talented firebenders at the time. It's sort of weird to see it so commonplace as it seems in episode 3. I do love how it functions as the core of this newly industrialized society though, but it still seems odd...

Energy Bending?? :O But Aang learned that from a Lion Turtle! How could Amon just pick it up from somewhere????

Very quickly paced and interesting combat. Wonder if Korra will pick up on hand-to-hand combat or learn to fight without bending to counter the chi blocking o_O

Also feel like she's going to ask Aang about energy bending like how Aang asked Roku about stuff. But Korra seems to be lacking in the spirit department.

Well, for over 100 years, firebenders were told that they were the dominant benders of the world. It would make sense that even after the war ended, they acted as such.

Maybe this firebender that destroyed both their families will show up at one point, that would be interesting. (for example, Amon trying to kill him/take away his bending out of revenge, with Bolin and Mako trying to stop him because revenge isn't right or some other bull)

I think it'd be more likely that all 3 of them would want revenge, or at least one of the brothers and Amon.

Though, I highly doubt they were the same firebender. Mako and Bolin's parents were mugged. Amon's family was killed because his dad stood up to someone who was extorting him.

I'm so curious to know what happened to Azula. I have a feeling whatever's up with Amon has something to do with her or Ozai (particularly Ozai, since he had his firebending taken away) and is seeking revenge of some sort.

I also think Amon's story about his family being killed by a firebender is bullshit. I still think he's a bender who wants to be the only bender.

Ah, lame. This seems like the kind of thing that one would be better off watching in a few sittings like Cowboy Bebop

I think it'd be more likely that all 3 of them would want revenge, or at least one of the brothers and Amon.

Anyway, regarding the losing of powers: there's an image floating around that shows exactly where Amon was putting energy- the popular theory seems to be that he's actually just, more or less, making people so anxious that they can't concentrate enough to actually bend.

My prediction? Korra will loose her powers and then gain them back at some point in the season. Possibly as soon as the next few episodes, going by the preview.

Also, I don't consider this a spoiler (EDIT: BUT APPARENTLY DEREK DOES) since it's said straight out in the game on Nick's site: Zuko is actually still alive, and is traveling! So there's a chance he could show up sometime soon.

Hey, if Zuko is alive, Azula still might be, too.

I also predict Korra will lose her powers. She'll probably travel to the spirit world to regain them back (although in my Azula fanboyism I want a reformed Azula to teach Korra how to regain her powers, which she had learned from her father xD).

I doubt Amon is making people unable to concentrate. It'll be kind of...dumb. Maybe affecting that one point has some other effect, like stealing the bending powers instead of just sealing them away (although that is also pretty dumb).

Avatar is top tier anime quality regardless of the fact it was made in america, lol.
