Admittedly, I will say that the amount of exp monsters give COULD be adjusted a bit, but I really enjoy participating in events/quests to level up.
I'm used to monsters giving a contribution that is at least noteworthy. Getting 12 experience from on-level enemies when I need 8k to level and each monster takes 5-15 seconds to kill is not noteworthy.

EXP from monsters isn't meant to be noteworthy, you're not meant to be able to grind levels trough just farming monsters, quests is the way to go just like GW1.

I understand that, I was just expressing my particular dislike of that setup.

Didn't play much on the Friday because I fell asleep after creating my character, lol. I think I'll roll Guardian or Warrior next.
Got to lvl 28 on an Engineer. So close to getting that Elite skill! Fun class, but I really need to change my hotkeys around for my skills. I like how flexible I can be with them. My favourite thing to do when there's a big boss with a large group of players with me is apply conditions with my Elixir Gun, switch to Flamethrower to push the enemy away/put down combo field wall of fire, and then switch back to my weapon set.
I did the bullpomegranate underwater boss battle with the Flame Legion guys. Took us 3 full re-runs till we got enough people to kill it. Sooooo, baaaad. And he kept re-spawning. e__e;
Note to self: Report bugs more often, more so the animation issues. There was this ice goliath thing up north in Wayfarer Foothills that was sliding across the map. -w-; Worst part is I think if he ran you over, you were pretty much ohko'd.MasPan Wrote:I understand that, I was just expressing my particular dislike of that setup. Just grind against mobs that fulfill the requirement(s) for Golden Hearts. The ones that sell gear will generally sell very nice ones as well.

Played a Thief for the last 6-7 hours I was online, and I absolutely loved it. Didn't get to play PvP or WvW with it (collapsed due to lack of sleep before that), but based on the PvE alone I know that I will have a Thief as main character. Ranger was a lot of fun too, but the pets are really underpowered at this moment. Can't wait until the next beta.

Yeah, Necro minions were dying pretty quickly for me too (less so once I got Blood Well for AOE healing, but still pretty often). Idunno if they get a bit tankier later on, but I doubt it.

Pets not only have lousy AI, if you have an offensive oriented pet, they die in two seconds.
I'm suspicious they don't scale up in W v W.

I think if you're smart about switching pets, they're pretty good. iirc if you switch out a pet with low health, they'll start to slowly heal themselves? Or they'll heal themselves after they're downed if you switch them out. I never got to play a Ranger myself, but hearing le gf raging in the other room about how dumb her pet is was kind of funny. >__>;
I haven't looked at anything Necro or Thief related because I have no interest in those classes. orz

My pet just charges in into the enemy in WvW, even if I spam F3 (which is STOP ATTACKING!).
I only had 1 pet when I was playing the Ranger, so I couldn't really test it out.
I narrowed down my many, many, builds to 3.
Shortbow + Sword/Dagger Ranger
Longbow + Sword/Dagger Ranger
Shortbow + Sword/Dagger Thief
Good thing I only have to play 2 characters the next beta to see which class I truly like.

Pets do heal when you switch them out, but the other one can easily die before the first one is ready again. What also annoys me is that you have to manually revive pets outside of battle. It just makes playing a Ranger far more annoying. The actual skills of Rangers are a lot of fun though.

Bears apparently have the same stats as every other pet except twice the Vitality, so that sounds like something to keep in mind for PvE. I'd probably always keep longbow/shortbow if I rolled a Ranger. Shortbow's mobility sounds great. I always had an extra pistol, shield, and rifle on me. ;-;Scaeva Wrote:Pets do heal when you switch them out, but the other one can easily die before the first one is ready again. Ranger's pets sound pretty annoying in PvE and WvW, yet real terror in sPvP. D:
I ALSO HATE TRYING TO REVIVE A PERSON BUT SOME RANGER'S PET WAS IN THE WAY AND I'D BE REVIVING THEM INSTEAD.

Corn Wrote:I just realized how much I took Maplestory's vast amount of skills per character as granted. The thought that's I'm going to spam same 10 skills the next 80 levels is just...urgh...
I also don't like...I'm basically just spamming my skills whenever they're off cooldown. Then again, I haven't played in real PvP yet (just PvE and WvW). I mean seriously, I'm just button mashing 1 and 2452354432534253252 as fast as I can. I'm going to get carpal tunnel.
The music is amazing.
I dislike the controls. I didn't exactly figure out how to backpedal and attack the enemy. I prefer Vindictu's controls.
The quest is system is better than most MMO's systems, but I raised my bar too high, ha ha. Voice acting is pretty crappy (IMO human Street Rat has the best personal storyline so far). I heard the storyline picks up at 10 though. I can't wait.
Human females have a distinct lack of character customization (ha).
Holy crap the maps are HUGE. I initially thought that main part of Queensdale and the city were like the only points, and then I fell over when I discovered another town. It feels cool that I could walk from one to another without really seeing any loading screens.
WvW is a zerg fest. It takes forever to take fortresses without siege equipment =(. I do find it fun though.
Lousy chat system.
I think it gets a 7-8/10 in my book. Of course, it's only a beta, so I hope it gets bumped up to a 9/10 on release. I'm also not level 10 yet, which a lot of people are saying it picks up at.
Chat system was...weird, keeps showing off User ID's but you can't actually do anything with them. If they fixed up that I'd like it, would basically be the baseline chat system from every MMO ever, which works.
How to backpedal: Don't, circle-strafe instead. Provided what you are fighting does not have a ranged attack, you may actually take no damage at all. If you have something to momentarily disable the opponent (I had a blind), you can use it and dodge-roll past them as well, which works pretty well.
Storyline was pretty straight-forward and not really...I guess unexpected was the right word? It's like watching a very cliche movie, but you still enjoy it because it's actually not too bad by the end, and gave you a good ride. This is of course judging it just based off the quests available in the beta (did all of them).
Quest system...I'm mostly happy with it I guess. I think there's only really two problems with it that I noticed. Firstly, the areas for which the quests count for can be kind of odd to figure out. There was this wine-tasting thing in Kessex that I couldn't find where to do like half the objectives for. Afterward I found that way behind the church in some fields that were very much not connected to the area was where it all was. Secondly, turning a black heart into a gold heart (map marker for completing an event) didn't really...I'm not really sure how to put it. The quests evolve over time, if you complete quest X, quest Y opens, etc. The heart really doesn't reflect that. It tells you that you completed quest X, therefore you 100%'d that questline.
On the skillslots:
MS is actually a great example of where "so many skills!" has it's weaknesses, though you have enough abilities to fill an entire keyboard with all of the macros and skills, but really in a fight, how many do you use? Except when you're trying to use all of the trash just because? Limiting your skillset has disadvantages, but it's not really a bad system and I feel like anet managed to pull it off pretty well. Your five main skills are those "bread and butter" skills, the things that you use at all times. Same as in MS, except you aren't replacing them with something that does slightly more damage every time you would have class'd up in MS. You can pop them all on cooldown and just button mash, but for most classes there's reasons not to spam all of them on cd. Slots 6-10 are your customizable skills, the stuff that lets you really make the class your own, and gives the overall set variety. As an Engineer I had a lot of skills available to me. As an Elementalist I had tons as well. Within those hordes of skills are very distint subsets, for instance Engineer has Gadgets, Turrets, Weapon Kits, Device Kits and Elixirs. All of which behave differently and can make Utility slots very diverse. Basically the entire system of skill-limiting in games is based around making the player choose. Pokemon is a super-good example of this, there's a ton of things your prized companion could learn, but you are required to choose just four skills for it to use in combat. When you're not actively fighting, provided you've unlocked the means, you can switch up that skillset pretty freely, to better adjust to whatever you are fighting. Or to just run something different. Same applies to GW2, you have tons of options and possible combinations, but you are required to choose what you feel would best suit your current needs and playstyle. It's an extra level of strategy.
Long story short, the system is actually not bad, you just have to actually work with it, and use it as intended.
I think the only major problem I had in PvP, was that the downed ability thieves have, to turn invisible and teleport, is on a shorter channel time than the deathspike. I ended up just shooting any thief I saw to death, as it usually saved me time over attempting to spike them multiple times.

Did anyone explore the Norn 15~25 area? That's the only place I haven't thoroughly been to and I haven't seen many people talk about it. lorx Wrote:Chat system was...weird, keeps showing off User ID's but you can't actually do anything with them. Yeah, kind of sad that out of all the MMOs I've played, Maple still has my favourite chat system. But the user ID is mostly there so you don't have to add all the characters of your friends. Little confusing at first, especially in guild chat.
I don't like how you can only see the guild chat for the guild you're representing. ANet team has received a lot of complaints about thieves in PvP. iirc they said they'll fine tune some things, but they feel like thieves are in a good position and people just need to understand what each class is capable of. They're also tweaking melee, but this is mostly a PvE change.
I was watching some sPvP vids and it's kind of crazy what some players were already able to do over the 2.5 days.

Yeah overall thieves didn't seem overly good, just need fine-tuning on that channel so they're actually spike-able.
Tbh Maple's system works the same as everything else except for buddy chat and megaphone spam. MS Buddy chat is ridiculous and makes no sense when you think about it, but if you've played a long time it feels "right" because of how much you get used to it's quirks. And megaphones need no explanation.

I couldn't actually add anybody by User ID, kept saying invalid email. Had to add characters, which in turn just added the whole account anyway. If the name stuff is polished up for release, so you're not looking at like three different names for everybody you meet, it'd be a fairly decent system. Fix up guild chat so you have an officer chat (didn't see one, but I'm not 100% sure it doesn't exist), and so you can talk to multiple guilds ( /g1, /g2, etc?), and it would be really nice.

Saw a sign in the store I work at saying Guild Wars: June 28. Can anyone confirm? Also, anyone know the system requirements for guild wars 2? I have an i5 processor (2.27 ghz), 4 gigs of ram, and an Intel HD graphics card.
