Hahaha. Oh man. SO MUCH WRONG.
The other poster isn't right. Prices will fall to what people are willing to pay for items. If billions of mesos don't exist and a few hundred million is a once again considered a lot, then that's where prices will land. Either sellers will settle for less or they'll refuse to sell, in which case someone who is willing to accept the reasonable offers based on the economy will step in and take their place. It will turn into a buyers market for a while until it stabilizes but that is how economies work.

There's a lot you an do about it, hence the thread, whether or not they will implement it, completely up to the company. To be honest I don't think you're smart enough to understand the explanations of why the 90% meso drop would be a bad idea. Although I disagree, even though it proportionally keeps the rich, rich, as long as the money is at a manageable level then it resolves majority of the issue.
See the point you seemed to miss from your QQing of "Well you just want this because I play the game better than you" which I seriously doubt, you just dupe like other empty voided chump in the game, it's really about looking towards the players who will be joining. I'm not sure if you actually play the game outside of ya know, cheating, to understand that Maplestory is much like the limited amount of jobs you qualify for, mcdonalds, burger king, etc, it has a high turn over rate. Who's going to stay on a game where the currency is garbage? Do you know how much mesos drop from monsters? like 20-30k maximum. Right now the state of the game is about the current players who exploited and cheat, and you think that's okay?
Changes are what make the world go around, telling everything to stay as is for your own personal gain is just barbaric. Also when trying to debate with someone, this isn't middle school, stick to your points, not suggest actions that you can't possibly understand the weight of.

Or he could at the very least provide valid points and make an actual argument instead of out-right insulting people and telling them to go kill themselves. That sounds like a good idea too.
The Meso-wipe thing sounds like a good idea, but only if it's not actually a periodic. Maybe once a year, but not once a month or every 2 weeks or anything like that. That's a bit much. Also, lowering the amount of mesos some mobs drop and adding in meso sinks that make sense, and have rewards that match the amount you put into them.

If something is sold for 1 billion mesos currently, after a 90% cut in mesos, that same item would be worth 100 million. And if you owned 2 billion mesos, your total would drop down to 200 million. But you'd still have the same buying power. Everyone would have the same buying power as before. The difference is that each individual meso would be worth 10x as much as it had before. Everyone's wealth would be constant, but the individual units would be artificially given additional strength.
The goal is to make things cost less, specifically a reasonable amount, specifically an amount that players can actually hold. Amping up the value of the individual currency unit by artificially deflating is one way of achieving this, assuming, of course, that hacking and duping are also cut out beforehand.

As the above poster said, just because the amount of meso went down, doesn't mean prices will go down. The game isn't ruined. I recently came back from having quit for a long time and I've been having plenty of fun with it. The thing that IS ruined is the economy, the market. And there are plenty of things which could be applied to turn the tides back quite a bit.
And no... if something is worth 3 billion mesos right now, and mesos get cut by a percent such that no one has more than, say, 500 million mesos in total, anyone trying to sell anything for 3 billion will completely fail. They can't say "Selling for 3b," if no one can afford to buy. And if they knock out the botters and dupers before, that would allow the re-valued meso effect to last pretty effectively, particularly if they pair it with other options, like additional tools for removing currency from the market like increased prices on potions or universally decreased meso drop values. Not to mention that some good ol' bans on gold-farmer accounts might themselves remove countless billions from existence as well.

EVERY MMO has "Money Selling sites", it's been going on for decades, you just can't stop it.

Would it be right if I profited off of your game directly?
EDIT: If nexon can sue hackers for damages they sure as hell can sue meso selling sites for damages, well if they are in the us :f6:

Definitely a cash trading room instead of the mts and I'd like to see some kind of meso reduction, considering how rich the hackers are. Mainly, Nexon would have to completely revamp their security and GM team/support system. There is a lot of very wishful thinking in this thread.

The problem with this however is the earlier mentioned problem of NX being a secondary currency - I too agree with the removal of the MTS. I personally think that would have to be done first before anything that would directly affect mesos.

Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_economy
(Notice the section about "Black Market". See how it describes EVE Online? That sounds an awful lot like the currency interaction of NX and mesos to me. The section labelled "Controversy" is also relevant here. The related article about "mudflation" too. )
In short, the game producers can make it against the rules of the game to partake in "gold-buying", and they can reasonably ban players over it, but I don't think it's actually illegal, and I don't think a civil case would hold up well either if that's the only offense. Maybe some gambling laws might be able to be put in place regarding them, but when there isn't an OFFICIAL way of converting virtual currency to real-world currency, I think they're all clear.
Quote:If nexon can sue hackers for damages they sure as hell can sue meso selling sites for damages, well if they are in the us :f6:
Nexon can't sue hackers unless they maliciously attack. Merely breaking the ToS by using third party software is not something to sue over. Malicious attacks on the server, however, could be subject to litigation, in addition to being criminally illegal.
This is why the distinction between script kiddies and hackers is warranted, although it's often overlooked. Someone who uses software to cheat at a game has earned themselves a ban from the game, but nothing more. Meanwhile, someone who has DDoS'd a server (which I understand is part of the duping process), however, could be sued for damages and, if caught, face criminal charges.
Rayquaza2233 Wrote:The problem with this however is the earlier mentioned problem of NX being a secondary currency - I too agree with the removal of the MTS. I personally think that would have to be done first before anything that would directly affect mesos. That's not a problem so much. Re-valuing Mesos would only change the conversion rate of NX to mesos. I'm not hip to the market rates, but if, say, the rate was 1000 NX to 1 million mesos, deflating the mesos by a 50% rate would just change the conversion rate to more like 1000 NX to 500k mesos, although it would rise as inflation kicked back in. Either way, the point is that erasing 50% of all mesos in existence would maintain buying power of a player while changing the worth for an individual unit. And ultimately... removing a rate of mesos like that wouldn't even help the economy; it'd only help bring down values such that items no longer have market values higher than the software-required maximum amount that can be held at once.
And I don't think Nexon would ever let the MTS go away. Ever. It's probably even more pointless to discuss that than it is to discuss this other stuff that they also are most definitely not going to do.

I'm too lazy to go digging for it tonight, but I seem to remember that somewhere in the TOS that we have to sign before making an account, it says something about how all vitrual items and accounts, etc are the property of Nexon.

You're absolutely right, it did stabilize, to the point where max meso is worth the equilavent 100m was 2 years ago. You realize that by your logic that statistically mesos will deflate 10x every passing year? Maplestory will become a pay to play game because NX cash will be worth 500m by 2014, now think about this. All that "precious" gear you have will be completely replaced by this summer. By the current economy you're constantly facing a loss, not a profit and we're not talking "well the new model came out so of course it will be slightly cheaper!" It goes to priceless to worthless in one patch.

You can't RB the last year of Maple.
Because ffs that's what it'd take to fix this pomegranate.
This isn't just ONE event, it's cumulative, exploit after exploit after exploit.
It WON'T stabilize by itself. That's naive and wishful.

Back to pomegranate almost immediately after the mediocre fixes were done with because a new exploit rolled in?
P.S. It's not trolling if you're not fooling anybody.
IMO, the first thing that needs to be done is removal of the MTS, but that won't happen unless MapleStory goes down with it. Also there needs to be some sort of gold sink implemented to remove all the excess meso in the economy. There's definitely a problem with inflation when items can sell for over 10 times the currency cap.

Since I've been out of the loop for a few months, I can't make any solid statements about what Nexon should do to fix the economy. However, I've seen what's happening now coming for a few years now. In many ways, MapleStory's economy is mimicking the U.S. and global economies. In Nexon's case, and a lot of companies these days, they think that they can do whatever they want and face no consequences. A book called the "Thank You Economy" brings up some interesting points about this very subject. Nexon presents the allusion that they listen to players through a forum, a ticketing system, vague updates on the website, and a Facebook and Twitter account. They're on the same level as any major company who has an e-mail address or a contact form on their website and has a customer support number that's either a machine or some dude in India. They want us to think they're listening to us, when all they're really doing is wasting our time and hoping we'll get fed up and forget it about it. Nexon could care less about fixing the economy or any of the issues in the game. Have you noticed the only time they ever do something is when people flip out on a massive scale (i.e. during the recent server crashes and rollback)? And even then, it's a BS excuse coupled with EXP events and NX. This has been going on for years on a small scale but as Nexon continues to procrastinate and only focus on making their bottom line and making a profit instead of ensuring the longevity of the game, they will ultimately become irrelevant just like Myspace, AOL, Yahoo, Runescape, and other games/websites of the past. Adapt or die.
Sure, we can't peg it on all the Nexon employees. They're employees, they're just trying to do their job the best they can under the circumstances. What really needs to change is the head honchos. Change starts at the top and unless Min Kim and whoever the hell else is high up at Nexon America decides that "Hey, we should address these issues before it's too late" MapleStory will quickly fade. They're taking their previous success for granted and throwing away the potential that this game has always had which is quite sad.
The bottom line in my opinion and based on what everyone else has said in this thread is that tough decisions have to be made if MapleStory is to survive the next year or two. The internet moves fast and I think we're getting to the point where there is no fixing this game if someone doesn't do something soon. Enough of the NX updates every damn week (imagine if they spent a fraction of the amount of time spent developing new cash items on actually fixing issues) and classes. Fix the foundation of this game so that it's actually enjoyable again.

Steelies and Ilbis are much too easy to find to go back to that. They're not worth near as much as half a 10 atk wg anymore, due to much higher supply.
It's pointless responding to FreeNoobs as he just doesn't understand so whatever.
The reason I would remove mesos on a curve, instead of straight up 90% cut - is to protect the new players who only have a few hundred thousand mesos anyway. When paying for potions cuts into your bankroll, it does make a difference in playability. When you have 2.1bil, buying pots is just a question of how many times you have to click to fill up your inventory.

Now that you mention new players struggling to afford potions at lower levels, how effective do you think a curve for potions would be? The higher level you are, the more potions cost. Do you think that would be a small but effective way of removing mesos from the game without coming out and saying "We're taking X amount of your mesos"? Just a thought.
