It would be foolish to conclude that Maplestory and WoW aren't direct competitors.
It's also not about net monetary cost: maplestory uses individual mico-transactions while WoW requires subscription. Most people would prefer to spend money in irregular intervals.

Blizzard has already conceded that their subscription system is outdated and that they'll eventually have to drop it.[/URL]

I'm not ignorant enough to say marketing does not affect the players, I'm just tired of people pulling the WoW card whenever a comparison seems in order. If I wanna play an action pseudo platform game, I play Maple, if I want an actual rpg with tactics I'd play WoW. A total noob (in lack of better words) might get mesmerized by the shining trailers and marketing ploys, but the true gamer, the spending kind, will do much more research before commiting to a new game. The casual dude that only tries the game can and will do so without spending a dime.
I sort of agree with what you're saying. To put it better, all of these revamps and changes are aimed at tightening each game's grip on its current players and partly to sway the undecided, but neither game will waste time trying to convert players away from games that they've already spent time on.

Nexon's ideal consumer is approximately 11 years old and wouldn't have the will or patience to do all of that research. They're just looking for something fun to play during the holidays. They say "Mom I want WoW!" and their mom says "$35 and then $15 a month? No way!" So they then say "Mom I want to play maplestory. It's FREE!" and their mom says "go nuts!" Then a couple weeks later the kid is like "mooooom I want to get 2x exp it's only $2 but if you get a card for $20 it'll last like TWO MONTHS!" and the mom says "That sounds fine. But let's not make this a habit." It then becomes a habit that doesn't seem as bad as it is because it's here and there rather than being cyclical.
I know that doesn't have anything to do with BB but that's what they count on most of the time. BB will just make players who've already played and been bored like me come back, re initiating the above stated cycle.

Oh of course they compete, as much as the Final Fantasy and Super Mario brands does when a new player is out looking for entertainment. Ok, that was an exaggeration, but still a good one to illustrate my point. Some folks in here sounds like if you stop playing Maple you go to WoW or the other way around. It surely happens, but I shall speculate that it is hardly the most common outcome.

Many people we're saying that bb would be meshed into those. Yes I know it's stupid. They slack those months because thats 1st quarter exams and everybody's getting set in school XD

Blizzard is a different level of a company too. Subscription based games and free to play games all share the same problems. However with Blizzard the developers are directly involved with the entirety of the game and often spend lots of extra time making the game as close to perfect as possible. By comparison with Nexon which invites average users to participate, Blizzard has professional staff for this.
Subscription fees and game enhancements all help pay for these added personnel that maintain the game.
Blizzard might drop the pay-to-play scheme but if you look at the success they've had with it regardless, as well as other subscription pay-to-play/use services like XBox Live and even Final Fantasy Online, pay-to-play won't vanish.
Regardless of how you look at it, Nexon to a point is a pay-to-play service. In order to be married and use the Amoria PQ, you have to buy Nx. In order to survive many higher level bosses, you need a pet and HP pouch which costs money, and to keep certain pets alive, they need a Water of Life which costs Nx. Now none of these are necessary, but still these services do help expand what you can do in the game.

I think that the big bang patch goes a long way toward remedying many of the issues player experience. Particularly, archers will get a passive that increase their HP, as will shadowers (and possibly night lords, I can't remember exactly). You won't need to buy NX anymore, and I certainly won't (except for a pet, because I'm lazy... ).
I think that Blizzard is on its own level that most companies just can't come near. They've released three major games - diablo, starcraft, and warcraft - all of which were gigantic hits with millions of fans. Hell, they own Korea. Nexon is a pretty large corporation, and Maplestory is a pretty famous game, even if most of the people who know about it have a negative opinion of it.
It's like comparing an elephant to a blue whale. Sure, the elephant's smaller, but it's still pretty big.

Where in the world did you come up with this notion? Survivability increases thats for sure, so you might save in on charms. You lever faster at earlier levels but that does not take away the use for 2x EXP, especially since family system no longer provides you with great EXP buffs. But the main iffyness of your claim is about potential system. A common problem with people and their idea of Big Bang is that every character will be brutish in power, but at the same time they seem to forget that monsters are getting harder to kill. I dare say that people gonna find it harder to kill high level monsters unless they have some decent potential on their gear than it is to kill skeles and chief oblivion guardians without it pre BB. So nothing about BB really support your claim. Sorry to burst your ballon. xP

The only thing I'll concede is that pets are still good. Everything else you listed is a blatant convenience item. I've never bought - and never will buy - 2x cards and I don't use cubes. But then again, I'm not an item/damage whore who plays for fun and his friends (not that I'm saying you are).

Ah yes but you said that you do not have to buy NX anymore. Just wanted to point out that BB does not bring some kind of reduction in how much MS gameplay rely on NX.

Well, I quite myself because of my sniper's low health, so I can see where HP washing or whatever was a legitimate reason to use money. BB removese that reason, so it's an anymore to me.

I'll give you half a cookie for the less need for HP washing fact, kind of slipped my mind. Though, HP washing was ever only really needed to HT early and to do Pink Bean. I am unsure if BB will let us tackle Chaos HT and PB unwashed, but I harbor doubts.

Back when I was a sniper (oh, let's say a couple of years) training at squids was a 2hko. So it wasn't just bosses, but the times they are a changin'.

I delt with 2hko for what, 4 years. Hardly warrants washing, just a nice supply of pots. But lets derail this thread no further. We can agree on the fact that BB improves many old issues anyway.
