I know, I know.

That'd be insane hax. Full-battle invincibilty from a skill. Goggleemoticon
Plus 11 Shadowers.

Every MS has their own atk pots, equips, scrolls, whatever to make their players strong.

The boss itself should be the same for each MS though. It's bull that they changed it.

If timed correctly people could pop some of those like 1 minute super attack potions in conjunction with smokescreen on the really deadly phases and it'd be pure DPS as there'd be no knockbacks or anything for a solid minute or two.

Hm...You know how Heros kill bf by pinning it to the wall? Making BF face the wall. Would it work if all warriors were rushing Pink Bean towards the wall and keep the ranged atking?(assuming the wariors keep the kb o.o)

Smokescreen only works for your party, otherwise, just bring 11 shadowers and everyone'll be invincible the entire time.

so if i dont attack why am i there?

You need to learn to distinguish the frames of whatever attack you guys are talking about from Ariel. Stop attacking when she casts that. It isn't that hard, or that new of a theory.

I said stop attacking when she uses a skill, either that green one or that purple one. All of her skills have cooldowns, so it doesn't happen as often as you'd think.

In all honesty I think everyone will tell you the following: we all agree to congratulate them, we all agree a 12 hour timer is way too much, and we all agree that it's not the same victory had they done it in 1 hr, albeit the fact that it's a victory nonetheless.

Dustin made a great point a few pages back that several others have commented upon/agreed with by saying the aspect of PB that makes it new, exciting, and truly challenging is the time limit. But what does that really say about the boss as a whole? It's still the same-old style of boss; hell, throw Wheel of Destiny in the mix, and it's nothing but HT x 3, another button mashing, patience test with a required dash of skill. In other words, another Nexon or whoever created it styled boss. The fact that all Maplers can't unanimously agree on an appropriate amount of time for the run (eg. "1:30 hrs, 4:00 hrs, 3:00 hrs) shows how much this debate really isn't going anywhere because of how poorly designed PB is.

Let's step back a minute and look at the big picture. Timer fixes don't solve the problem of poorly designed bosses and supplement CS items that make the battle easier; what we NEED are difficult, challenging bosses that are creatively difficult in new ways that don't require NX whoring to beat, but strategy. The strategy behind PB is wholly centered around the 1 hour time limit...imagine a boss where the whole strategy was actually centered around how to KILL it. In this sense HT was a "first step," but wasn't enough to satiate the appetites of strong Maplers.

What I think we need are more bosses with the same general design of your typical Zelda boss, the stereotypical "find it's weakness and exploit it using the appropriate weapon/skill." I think the best example of this would be in The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past DX, where one of the most challenging bosses was nothing more than a black blob that changed shapes and could only be affected by certain weapons at certain times. The goal then is your simple, general notion of staying alive while trying to find the weakness and, once found, exploiting it until the boss is dead or changes in a way that forces you to rinse and repeat. Time is not a worry, but rather how fast your mind can work through the puzzles presented. Bosses like this in MapleStory would be amazing since it would solve the issue of classism: while you don't NEED, persay, "2 of every class to get in, 1 of every class to do a jump quest," you could have sections of the changing boss that require the Elements, etc.

**************************

I hope you read all that, but hey, it's a forum, and lord knows most of you didn't. For the lazy readers, in a nutshell, PB is a great boss for the new and challenging notion of formulating a strategy around the time limit in which to defeat it. However, truly great and challenging bosses, the ones we need more of in MapleStory, take from the general design of Zelda bosses where one must work on surviving while simultaneously concentrating on solving whatever puzzle is presented by the physiology, battle style, and the whatnot of the boss in order to discover the effective method of dealing damage to that one part/section/etc.

I have to disagree with this statement. Pink Bean is NOT poorly designed. You people only look at it that way because you're (directed at the Global community, not just one specific person) too arrogent to see the point of it. It's not there to beat it like any other boss. It's there for a challenge, and as far as I can see, that's the only thing KMS has released in a LONG time that even brings a hint of a challenge to the game that Global Maple can enjoy. Maple Global is just too hand-fed to realize what the true point of playing a game is all about. You people get hand fed your Mark of Naricains, NX items, ITCG items, TONS and TONS of 2x exp events, reduced exp tables, etc. Global Maple is more than 10 times easier than it was two to three years ago and being a former player from that time, it's extremely easy to see how the game has changed. It's no longer a challenge. Look at the amount of level 200s there are now. Leveling isn't even a challenge because you people PG leech from 26 ~ whatever, then you leech until 150+. Hell, some people even leech long after 180, WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC. Play the god damn game the way it's meant to be played, as I said before. I'm sorry, but Maple Global, even though it already is, doesn't deserve to be the most powerful version of Maple. You people take way too many things for granted and all you do is complain, complain and complain.

Wouldn't PB (the un-nerfed, gen-spamming one in KMS) still be really hard with a 3hr time limit?

btw this is just a question, I'm not trying to make a point or anything Goggleemoticon

Most of the statue fight is pretty dumb though, you just spam attacks while getting spammed back with stun/seal/darkness, and the hawk statues do absolutely nothing if everyone stays out of range. You could sort of say that with every boss I guess, though to compare, I thought pap was pretty well-designed (pre-4th job), except it used stun and dispel a tad too much.

shikage, youre a bucc in jMS, correct?

correct me if im wrong, but buccs get a few moves with invincibility frames, right? wouldnt one idea for taking down PB be to take 2 buccs, a shad, priest, and an attacker, to challenge the Bean? (why isnt it called pink being instead?) i mean, yeah the big flaw with that would be that theres a lack of active shad's and bucc's in gMS (as far as i can tell), but given that there can be, what, roughly 6 parties(?) per team, with each team filling their attacker spots with a NL, WK, BM/MM, i/L-AM/f/p-AM, hero, and captain/DrK (one per party, like one party has the NL, one has the WK, one either of the AM's, and so on); wouldnt it be possible to take down PB?

EDIT::
just counted, with that model, theres still one spot per team; lets just fill that with w/e, ok? or why not a mix of the attacker classes, hm? o-o

Of course GMS is hand-fed. You do not understand the North American market. GMS makes the most $$$$$$$ because consumption is incredibly high for gach, NX items, mesos, etc. That's how the market is treated, and since gamers are now used to expecting the next big thing, they also adapt to consumption levels in the same manner.
Absolutely pathetic? Yes, on Nexon's side for being so shallow and greedy, and for the gamers for obviously eating it up. Hell, some people even use their financial aid money on this game. Absolutely pathetic is putting it a nice way.

PB is poorly designed. While I do like the idea of powerful attacks that you can't just throw 1000 dollars at, but actually have to dodge, and use strategy, PB's attacks are simply ridiculous and even the most well-coordinated party must rely on a pomegranateload of luck to make it through.

Fullscreen attacks that do enough damage to kill half the classes in the game is a crappy idea. Maybe if, you know, PB didn't have to be pinned in an exact position while somehow your entire squad of ranged attackers take cheap shots at its back, and instead it had a setup that isn't completely insane, they could actually have some strategy/thinking to the fight.

Maybe instead of loligenandbigbangwholescreen PB could have a slow moving cannon blast of light that did 50k damage but could be ducked under.

Maybe instead of seal/zombify/seducing everyone he could disable potion usage for people near him for a short duration, so that Bishops could actually be needed to HEAL (they would be in the back). Zombify is a retarded skill. Any skill that can be cast without warning and suddenly leave a whole party dead is bullpomegranate.

Speaking of which, what the pineapple is up with damage reflect? Hey, every 60 seconds I'm going to pineapple you in the ass with a skill that you can hardly even see me cast in the chaos! Don't do that, Nexon. Maybe he could switch to some kind of defensive animation, and instead of immediately 1hkoing you, he'll absorb your attacks and get more power. His cannon blast attack could move faster and be used more often, I dunno. Maybe he could have an angry bar that fills up while he's in defense mode, and if you hit him enough to fill it he'll mass seduce and pineapple you up. But instant 15k damage reflected back at you is no fun.

And since we're already working with a 1 hour time limit here, is there really any need to KILL EVERYONE all the time? If you're going to punish people for failing to avoid an attack, stun them or something. Fail to dodge the falling gigantic music notes? You get stunned and can't contribute damage for a few seconds.

Lastly, since this is MapleStory, PB can keep his standard pointless pot-burning spam attacks in between special moves, but make them do 8k, or 8.5k damage tops. Anything beyond 8.5k is pineappleing ridiculous if it's not meant to be avoided by anyone.

To me, the boss I just made up sounds like it would be doable and actually fun to fight, but still present a high level of challenge, not to mention codable. What we currently have is a perfect example of poor game design.

That's exactly what happens with neo tokyo's bosses, you don't need to be a NX whore to beat them,in like 2 or 3 days after their release, there's already a strategy guide with their weakness.
It's like,Bergamoth, weakness is just, lay down at every attack and bam,you beat it.Nibelung, lay down at the beam, walk to the right side to avoid the grenade,,even aufheven, that ppl tell that it's a pink bean rip off,it's a lot easier, you just need one viper to keep pushing it to the wall, and to lay down every time it casts the spell.
What we need is more bosses that can be beaten with strategy, not NX whores.
Reply
Not only "strategy," but I also think a boss that requires actual strength to kill, not just any random high leveled mofo's with enough Hp attacking it. One of the main purposes of the game is to level, and to upgrade equips, no? But then again, that's a time limit.
Reply
^ Exactly. It's supposed to be a TIME ATTACK. You're supposed to try to defeat it under extremely strict circumstances. That's how Pink Bean was made to be, not how TMS and CMS has made it. If you think Pink Bean is too hard, you don't know how to play a game for what it's worth. Go play one of those classic games that are extremely tough to defeat, then come back and tell me what's hard. Those of you asking for nerfs are not true gamers and you should go back to playing games with easy modes.
