Run Like the Wind rune
>Proc coefficient reduced from 0.2 to 0.08
WELP, THERE GOES THE WHIRLWINDY FUN IT SEEMS.

Wait.

Whirlwind
>Fury cost from 16 to 9
Anyone know if there's such thing as -Fury gear for Whirlwind? Infinite Whirlwind Barbs suddenly seemed to have gotten easier. Barbs may or may not be able to still honey badger mobs with the RLTW nerf.

I think it'll probably be fine. I doubt whatever change was made to run like the wind was because of whirlwind barbarians specifically - it probably interacted with certain legendaries or slaughter in an overpowered way.

Anyway, this is the only change I care about:

Battle Rage
Duration increased from 30 seconds to 120 seconds

No word on Storm Chaser being nerfed. No word on the supposed known bug of Hydras not doing critical damage.
>Storm Armor change
>Does 100% damage
>Strike Back renamed to Thunder Storm
>All other runes remain unchanged
So Storm Armor - Thunder Storm will increase the damage from 100% to 91%. Cool.

I can see Storm Armor - Scramble going really well with a gold find bot now. I was hoping they'd make Ice Armor - Frozen Storm viable since I think it's a neat skill but whatever.
Blizzard is still pretty bad. I never knew Sleet Storm did what it did. It's pretty interesting actually, but the current cost makes it too hard to maintain upkeep, and I have 20 AP on crit and 40% critical rate. If there was a way to pull monsters towards you like Cyclone Strike or something, it would be good, but anything that runs will be too much trouble. The damage is quite impressive though, which also hurts its Critical Mass potential to some degree.

Monk skill changes are trash. Finally can take Pacifism and have it be useful though.

Bola Shot might be a good alternative now since it has so much range. Looking forward to trying it, but I think I may stick with Covering Fire. Strafe will at least be useful for those tanks since you can use it to escape now too.

Upgrading tomes... hmm... sounds good. I like the change to Thrill of the Hunt. The boar is... curious. With the changes to Bola Shot, I can now use other runes to maximise my damage.

The legendary drop thing is... lol. Fine, it fits the mark of a legendary drop =.=

Now my Wizard is in trouble.

Sad to see WW barbs go but I guess it's been too long.

There are some really amazing fixes in this patch though.

Dohohohoh, WW barbs get a nerf, Rend gets a minor buff. Looking good~
With the buff to CC I might consider getting Wrenching Smash back, it synergizes great with Rend.

No mention of a nerf to SC-Wizards, only a buff to shocknadoshards now that Storm Armor deals DoT to everything around the player. Making Meteor cost less and fall faster makes Meteor based CM builds more viable too.

DHs seem to have gotten the most changes, I don't know enough about them to read them though.

I'm not convinced that cutting the rage generation from sprint tornadoes by a little more than half is going to kill the build. Especially with the cost of whirlwind being reduced and the need to spam battle rage getting quartered. If anything, you might need to swap runes on war cry or switch passives to generate more fury, but it shouldn't be any reason to switch.

I doubt WW Barb is dead. I mean sure Sprint got a hefty nerf, but considering Whirlwind's Fury cost was nearly cut in half and Battle Rage now lasts 2 minutes, instead of 30 seconds...

Can Rend crits even proc the Fury generation from Battle Rage? Could go with that, similar to what Alkaizer did.

The problem with Whirlwind's cost reduction is that it lowers how much fury they can actually gain towards keeping Wrath of the Berserker up. And Sprint has always been the biggest part on the damage dealing AND fury generation for that build. I'm sure very funded barbs will be able to keep spinning, but it won't be as easy to accomplish as before.

Rend only crits once when applied, it isn't viable for fury generation.

WW Barbs are probably going to have to spam Battle Fury/Sprint even more than ever before to keep the Fury flowing in. We'll have to see from the geared players if Fury generation is of any issue. One thing for sure though is Mighty weapons are going to be the only viable main-hand weapon to keep the Fury going.

Don't forget that the proc coeff also applies to the Mighty Weapon +2 fury proc. I'm not a WW barb myself so I can't really judge that well how this will play out, but people are raging on the Barb forums.

Barb players raging? It seems hilariously appropriate. Now what would be shocking is Barb players being the most calm when it comes to nerfs.

Don't forget nerfing the proc coefficient means your loh is 60% less effective as well.

Amusingly, this bug happened to me today and gave me a big scare because I had <10% HP. Then I realised that it wasn't real... =.=

Curse that stupid monster. Damage reflect + illusionist is NOT fun. And it spawned on top of me and smashed me immediately wtp.

I'm looking into building a Sleet Storm CQC Wizard set after the patch now to have some fun, but I have to respec a lot of my gear since my build currently is low HP, high mitigation, with 2k Life Regen on Storm Chaser, and I don't think it's viable to have the same set for both since Frost Nova and Diamond Skin won't be up as often.

I was bidding on a Stone of Jordan to get things started, but it went up to 11m from 9m in the last 30 seconds and I couldn't bid fast enough T_T Hoping people start posting cheap mlvl63 Wizard Helms since ilvl62s suck so much. You lose out on 2.5% Critical since they can't get ilvl63 mods =/

I wish Sources, Helms, and Weapons had more variety/usefulness on the Wizard skills they can spawn with. Energy Twister only appears on Weapon, Ray of Frost only appears on Helms, etc.

If I can stack enough All Resist, I would go with this, and be flexible around the Slow Time and Magic Weapon. I want to stay in the spirit of melee/CQC, but any ranged monsters will be very difficult since they all tend to run. The new snare rate will help with this though. Perhaps Teleport with Calamity to close and as an initial burst, or Blizzard/Frost Hydra for the initial snare and flavour. The damage is already impressive, so lockdown wouldn't be as necessary from Frost Nova/Diamond Skin, but since stacking critical rate and AP on Crit is the best way to maintain upkeep, might as well take advantage of Critical Mass. Might switch Galvanizing since it's rather unnecessary and the only reason I use it is to stack more Life Regen to feel good. Cold Blooded would probably be the way to go, or Astral Presence if I don't recover enough AP.

JoeTang; What's the proc on Ray of Frost/Sleet Storm? Also, how often does it hit?

It's 25% right now, and it's going to be lowered to 18.75%. It hits twice a second like every other channel.

Guess what was ninja'd in the PTR notes?

Quote:Skill Rune - Storm Chaser
Proc coefficient reduced from 0.5 to 0.125

I try not to use IAS stuff/skills because of their conflict with resource consumption. Because Slow Time bubble doesn't actually move, I feel that it would be of little benefit unless you're tanking melee elites/champions because Sleet Storm's AoE is just too small and nasty against stuff that runs. Teleport-Calamity actually sounds like pretty good replacement for Slow Time, so you could probably toss in Evocation or Illusionist to replace Galvanising ward (I'd give up the Regen).

But yeah it sounds like a pretty interesting idea, the damage is good.

Just my 2p.

Does that affect life steal too? Or is that independent of coefficient? That still seems like something that could be counteracted by a good Barbarian belt, especially if it had whirlwind crit chance or whirlwind reduced fury cost too.
