Good morning, everypony! About half an hour before the episode premiere of The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000. Now if only I know how to make Mibbit rooms properly. I still suck at it.
I'm watching at HaxMega's room if anypony is interested.
Solarboy Wrote:So it's classic vs modern eh? Sounds fun. Now that I think about it, we haven't really had an applejack episode this season, that's kinda sad.
That's my guess anyways. It'd make the most sense to me, if the episode title is any indication of what'll happen in the show. Sounds like a machine to me, and the Apple family sure as hell are very old fashioned/traditional. But it could also be the name of the competition itself, which would automatically throw my theory out the window.
And to be fair last episode WAS an Applejack episode, but Derpy and Pinkie Pie went "lolNOPE" and made fans go oatmeal over their antics.
Looks like this won't be an applejack episode, fun. Neverming
Flip and Flamp's song was probably the longest song of all, but it was enjoyable. I have a feeling that this episode might be a musical, but I don't know.
Flip and Flamp are pimentos, and scammers as well. Thoguh they could have won and make "ok" cider, but they decided to overdo it.
-D'AWW, Fluttershy blushing like she's wearing some embarrassing clothes.
-Cider. TOTALLY not alcohol.
-Rainbow Dash sure wants dat Cider really badly.
-Bed hair Pinkie is best Pinkie! She sure seems excited as hell for the cider as well. Would REALLY like to know what they put in their cider. Maybe MAGIC??? Nope it's LOVE AND QUALITY!
-Oh man, Dash REALLY wants that cider. Dem suggestively excited looks.
-Dat Cheerilee.
-Pinkie trolling hard. U mad, Rainbow Dash?
-OH MY GOD, FLIM FLAM BROTHERS ARE SINGING VAUDEVILLE PONIES. SO AWESOME!
-Unicorns?! AND magic powers the machinery?! Hory crap the Apple family REALLY have their work cut out.
-Big Mac said "NO DEAL"!11
-Rainbow Dash getting trolled so hard this episode. Poor gal can't get her cider.
-Someone said in the stream Granny Smith is the new Scootaloo. lol
-Ruh roh at the insane production speed by the Flim Flam brothers. Inb4 the ENTIRE Apple family appears to help.
-Was wrong. If the entire family appeared they'd win in quality AND production numbers.
-The Flim Flam Brothers' cockiness became their undoing.
-Expected the Flim Flam Brother's machine to break/explode. Although greatly sacrificing quality for speed works as well. Nice little subversion. Also, one hell of a machine to not get destroyed while processing TREES. But then, can be easily explained with magic.
-LOL at the ending, Celestia got trolled.
Thoughts: I do admit Applejack didn't get a super mega awesome scene like Twilight or Dash, but I did notice Applejack not letting her pride get to her head this time. A nice little nod to her previous episodes where she denied admitting a problem, and shows signs of character development through humility. I feel that's a nice subtle touch in itself. Overall though, felt more like an Apple family-centric episode since each of the Apple family had pretty even screentime. But the "letter" in the end was just funny.
Also, shipping. Shipping everywhere in this episode. Incoming more Flutterdash and Macdash fics, and incoming Flim Flam Brothers shipping.
This episodes awesome. Its nice to see villains for once (or at least someone to challenge the Apple family) and to see Applejack and the gang working together.
The Film Flam Brothers are alright. They deserve what they got for speeding things up and never think of how bad their cider turned out to be. When they first appeared, they seemed rather enjoyable and fun at what they do and I like the song too. I like the Rainbow Dash bits, and how she chose to not cheat (which was ironic since they were cheating when the gang helped the apple family but the FF Brothers didnt care). Its adorable how Applejack referred to their friends as honourable family. The lesson was the best part. Very hilarious that Applejack didnt learn nothing since she knows.
If you ask me this episode was very predictable; I knew all along quality > quantity would win in this scenario, but Im not going to let that ruined my entertainment.
Now you KNOW they could have done better. Remember when Twilight picked a crapton of apples with her magic in one episode? WHY DIDN'T SHE DO THAT?
I LOVED the song. It reminded me of Music Man and it was so catchy~ And the letter was hilarious. Pretty good episode overall, expected the outcome as usual.

Because Twilight clearly entered the Konami code when she did her magic in Episode 4.
I guess they were afraid to have Twilight's magic be the answer to everything. Very tricky business when you have a main character with such (currently) unlimited potential, because you risk her being a Mary Sue type if she can magic every single problem. If you ever played Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition, you could see how big a problem magic is, because magic trumps everything else in the game, nothing else ever came close. EVERYTHING could be solved with magic if you have a creative enough mind to make the best use of the rules.
Amusingly, I don't think I can think of anything that can refute that idea. We haven't seen a form of a TV yet, so definitely before the 30s. The fact we saw some Steam Punk-esque stuff, probably early 1900s. I now wonder if the community as a whole has thought about this, although I'm very sure they already did.
Upon looking though, I realized that the most modern technology that they seem to have is DJ-P0N3's DJ player, which is somewhere around the 30s-50s according to Wiki. So final date would be somewhere around there. Inb4 computers and TVs start popping up in later episodes.

Now that I think of it, I don't think we have an age that can be compared to ours since their machines are from the IR but they have P0N3's DJ player and somewhat moderm cameras but also they don't have any sort of media since theres not even radio, ugh why they make it so hard to pin point but at the same time I'm ok with it since they have magic and most likely no wars, their tech is bound to be different.

We can always chalk it up to a very light version of "Anachronism Stew". NO please don't google it if you value your time, I'll quote what you need to know from that entry:
"Anachronism Stew
Strictly historically accurate writing, set and costume design, and dialogue is often counter-productive. Few audience members will have the historical knowledge to appreciate the differences between distant eras, and they often have muddled expectations of what they would be like. And in any case, for some eras genuine examples of or guides towards clothes, artifacts or items that they would have used in the time in question may be in short supply or sketchy at best, forcing props and costume designers to speculate or do the best with what they have. Thus, it is sometimes more effective to imply a general sense of 'the past' drawn in broad strokes rather than bog the story down with exposition and pedantry. More often, writers and producers are too lazy or have too little time to get the facts correct, or they may actually believe they have the facts correct when they don't.
As a result, historical (or futuristic) stories often confuse two or more time periods. For example, Renaissance dress may appear with 12th-century crusaders in a story set in Charlemagne's empire. Fortunately for the writers and designers, the viewers rarely notice this enough to affect the bottom line, which is all that matters.
In other words, this is The Theme Park Version of history.
Note that this is not a strictly modern trope. Medieval artists, for example, routinely dressed Biblical figures in contemporary fashions, and the Greek myth of Theseus features similar confusion. "
I find this so strangely interesting. Then I found out the tune is an Israeli folk dance, which got memeticly mutated by Nico Nice Douga. Man, is there ever going to be something that Ponies CAN'T go with?
