Finally got around to downloading the necessary drivers to give my newish SurfacePro3 pressure sensitivity while working in PaintToolSai. Everything but the rock apple was done without it.

Getting used to drawing straight onto a screen.

I sort of prefer my tablet but its much more convenient to just use the surface.

Figures from imagination, even when trying to work fast its still sluggish.

Haven't attached any sort of whingy blog post in a while so:

Recently I've been feeling as if i don't have the same fire I used to have?
I know it takes a long time and I've definitely improved but sometimes it feels like it hasn't been enough.

The workload from my optom degree is pretty heavy compared to what my friends in other degrees get, its at 27 hours a week just for classes/labs/lectures and itll only go up for the next 4 years. The fact that I spend 3 hours a day just on public transport is also draining more time and the best I can do on a bumpy train or busride is tiny drawings in my sketchbook or reading a book.

I'm on top of my schoolwork for sure but its just eating away my time for other things, I haven't gained any weight from gymming in the past 3 months just because I simply haven't been eating enough.

Growing up sucks. I'm going to have to work really hard during the 3month break I get, its looking like thats the window where most of my art gains will come from for the next 4 years.

Looking at the work of artists who are at a level between where I am and where I want to be is making me realize how much harder I need to work, and how little I have up til the past 2 weeks...

I mean I've put out more still life paintings in 2 weeks than I have for the past 20 months since I've started. Thats f'uckin bullsh'it. If I had just started earlier I would be much stronger.

So I've made a document setting out short/mid/long term goals. A timeline of study material to run through and even a hitlist of artists whose level I have to reach in a certain field by a certain time.

The bar in my signature shows to scale how far along I am in my Optometry course. I wouldn't mind working as an optometrist but if I can at least get to a professional level by the time that bar fills up I'll have reached my goals. I have...50 months as of now.

I remember setting a goal of 1000 heads earlier in this thread. I've no doubt reached it but it was overly ambitious and sloppy. My plans right now are even more stupidly ambitious but much tighter. I'll finish off the anatomy videos I've been halfheartedly watching and restart perspective tomorrow.

I have no illusions as to how undisciplined I am though... That's going to be the first and hardest obstacle.

Re calculated my position, 15% was incorrect.

More paintings from life, I took heavy artistic liberty with the tree one. I didnt handle the edges in the leaves as well as I shouldve and it looks sloppy in parts. Detail overload made me draw very innacurately and I ended up using the tree in my backyard as loose reference.

I got absolutely d'icked for the pen one, the lighting isn't close to correct and I had more cartridges down I just couldnt go on. I'll redo it. I'm happy with tackling a more difficult angle like that though.

The stapler was something I had trouble with. I'll need to learn how to handle translucent materials instead of just glass and opaque surfaces.

Construction/Perspective study hasn't produced anything of note, still working on the very basics.
