The Legend of Korra

I was under the impression it was some type of martial arts like Ty Lee used from the original series. Though, I don't remember if I read that as actual fact, or some fan speculation.

I'm hesitant to believe they're able to energy bend though.

Those comments were, but I'm talking about similar comments if you browse the Nickelodeon Forums. They'll hurt your head.

They must be pretty powerful to take on benders, but how? o.o

The same way Ty Lee and Mai could.

Judging from that video, it looks like it might be possible.

Being able to take away peoples bending permanently is probably part of their big plan

Well, the only way I could see it happening is if the leader is the only one who can do so. Having everyone in the group being able to do that would just be stupid.

Maybe not ONLY the leader can do it, but I doubt the generic lackies can. If anyone, probably the leader and his generals (Or whatever he's going to call them).

I was under the impression that you needed to be able to bend the elements before you could bend energy. If you can bend energy, then you should be able to bend the elements as well because energy bending was the source of all bending.

I'm inclined to think it's chakra blocking from Ty Lee or some other sort of martial art. they have to be adept at something like that considering bending is mid-range to long range and rarely ever short range combat.

EDIT: it seems they're using technology to increase distance- to have their own kind of "bending". Kinda like the hand laser from Ironman and electrically charged batons.

Amon seems to be closer to energy bending, but I'm obliged to believe that it has something to do with chakra. The middle of the forehead is around where "The third eye" is.

EDIT2: Agree with below too. I feel like bender who wants to be the only bender in the world makes sense.

That does look a LOT like energy bending, and it would make sense, since that's how Aang took away Ozai's ability to bend. It could be that the mask has some kind of technology behind it that allows him to harness the ability without actually being a bender...

but for some reason, I have the feeling it will be revealed he's actually a bender with a grudge, or desire to be the ONLY bender, and not a non-bender at all.

I know it's already been speculated that Amon could be Aang's non-bender son Bumi.

If you think about it, it makes sense. His sister and mother are powerful Waterbenders, his father is the avatar and his brother is a rare, powerful Airbender.
It's no wonder that he would feel left out by destiny.

Perhaps he is an Energybender, it makes sense that others would not be able to spot that he is an energybender since it's something only very very few know about, and they just classed him as a non-bender.

Maybe Amon is able to take away Korra's bending abilities and the next chapters are her regaining them? Doubtful but what the heck, just throwing ideas around.

Considering that energy bending can take away bending, do you think it's at all possible that it can give bending too?

I don't see why not. I mean, since there was zero explanation about it in the original series, they can do anything they want with it in Korra.

hmmm... I would think it would be something along the lines of physics where energy can't be generated out of thin air, so I would assume that you can take bending away from someone and then give it to someone else as a 1:1 trade off (take someone's "bending energy" and give it to another "non-bender"). That is assuming of course that energy bending can only manipulate the "bending energy" required to bend the elements. If it is just overall energy, the it may be possible to "bend" someone's existing energy to "unlock" bending in a sense. But that would assume that every person in the world is capable of bending, which is probably false because of the whole non-benders thing.

But then again it's all speculation and we don't even know if energy bending will be seen or mentioned. Would be kinda cool to have Amon = Bumi as an energy bender.

Make that 2 of us!

The romances in the first series were actually surprisingly good, and i couldn't help but ship Katara/Zuko, especially during the fight with Azula.
We need some steamy romance. (Get it, steamy? i suck)
