Southperry Reputation System

ShiKage Wrote:Does the Facebook gadget have any importance? Nope. It's just there to be there. It's the same with the reputation system, except the reputation system points out people's character flaws (though, as said before, it's probably going to be wrong 99% of the time).

I know most of us will forget about it eventually, but I'm mostly just infuriated with the way Eosian is trying to attack anyone that doesnt agree with him. If he presented his arguement in a logical manner, I probably wouldnt mind at all, but the fact that his demagogue like approach is what keeps dragging me here.

Only person I've voted mostly seriously for is Fiel. However, I did say he turns me on but that's not true. Unless there's a new extraction.

This is pretty cool, and whoever voted on me must like me... this means this is all going according to plan. [evil laugh]

Oh wait, I voted seriously for someone else. Someone I hate. Good luck figuring out which of you it was.

Ugh.
See, like I said on the iRC last night, I dislike this system in nearly every way. It does nothing but provide a catalyst for drama.
>Person is given enough negative votes that they get irked.
>makes a thread/blog complaining about it.
>others respond "deal with it it's how others perceive you."
>they get mad and ragequit.

Also what's not to say that this problem is limited to that scenario?
>Person A (old to the forums) starts to befriends Person B (new to the forums)
>B sees A's reputation
>A tells B they can't be friends.
A person can be ostracized for the opinions of others, which is entirely unfair and does nothing to give people the ability to change. "But votes aren't permanent and can be changed at any time" you may say, which I concede to that being true; what's to say that they will be changed though, what's saying the preconceptions of some are immutable and set-in-stone?

I don't like this. Also the "view your conversation with them" link overlaps the tabs, so it's an eyesore/annoyance as well as the above.

So you admit that this type of reputation system is worthless and should not be looked at seriously? What is the purpose of a reputation system if it isn't taken seriously? If someone leave me some completely anonymous feedback that says "You're a jerk", then why should I take it seriously, or make an effort to be less of one? If someone left negative feedback saying "You're a f(ucking douchebag and here's ten reasons why", then that's a little bit different.

I don't understand what you are trying to say, or which group of people you are targeting your posts toward. You are trying to compare this system to the real world where you don't always hear what you would like to hear, but it is nothing like that, because in the real world when someone calls you a douchebag they are usually serious.

The Facebook button has no possibility for abuse or harm to be caused.

If someone give you feedback about why your a jerk would you listen to it? Wouldn't it still be the same outcome?

Person A:your a jerk cause your always trolling
Person:What is he talking about i never do that. I'm not taking your reason serious

Think about how you have acted on southperry. Have you been a jerk? Have you been annoying? Thats how i view the rep system. You ask yourself those questions and reflect. If an answer is untrue then dont take that one serious simple as that. You dont have to stomp your feet yelling "ITS ALL WRONG! WRONG WRONG!"

In the real world when someone says your an alcoholic dont people deny it? "I dont drink that much" People will always deny everything that is said about them bottom line. If you did something in the real world that is considered being a douche then you deserve to be called one. If you didnt do anything would you take that person comment serious? It all leads up to the events that are taking place.

With the rep system is based on how you have acted on southperry. The ones that are evaluating you are not complete strangers. They only know the information that you have presented while posting. The questions are not even breaking the huge personal boundaries. Their questions that relates to everyone. So i dont see why people are in such a fuss.

I think your a nice guy greg

Yeah, people on Southperry either can't differentiate the term "weeaboo", or they're just intentionally doing that to piss others off. Regardless, not like it matters (not to me anyways, lololol).

PS: Am I really the only one enjoying all of this attention? I don't really care what my % score is, I'm just happy that people are actually.. ya know.. voting. Makes me excite, since people are actually using their time and paying attention to that tab. Feels good, man. Oh, and I annoy people, that's awesome, since I don't do it intentionally! F`uck yeah! inb4accidentaltrollang (wat)

Also, apparently, I am friendly and cheerful? ; A ; WAT. EXPLAIN, SOUTHPERRY.

Many people don't even know what otaku really means. For one thing, it's not even exclusive to anime/manga and such. You can be a sock otaku, it doesn't really matter.

I don't know about in other countries, but in America ''otaku'' generally just refers to people who are really into anime and manga.

It doesn't have entirely the same meaning here than it does in Japan. It's not that the people ''don't know what otaku really means'', it's just that the word's meaning was changed when it came over to other areas. It's like when people call ''normal'' cartoons, ''cartoons'', and they call Japanese cartoons ''anime''.
